Humpbacks actually seen mating for the first time and it was literally gay.
I have a fear of whales AND the ocean.
Finding Nemo is a horror film to me.
WHY DO WHALES KEEP APPEARING EVERYWHERE?!
so last weekend I played subnautica with my friend (he’s more like my brother, but regardless)
as anyone who knows me or read my bio knows, I very much fear and dislike whales.
and as anyone who knows anything about subnautica knows, there are whales (well, reefbacks, but they’re even worse because they’re bigger than whales)
i was constantly terrified, not just because I was paranoid that I would run into reefbacks, but I have also associated the fear of whales with the ocean, so i’m quite paranoid at all times when I’m near a large body of water.
but you know what? I had so. much. FUN! he walked me through everything I would need to do, he’d warn me if I was getting near reefback territory, and I even managed to swim past one at one point (even if I was like 100 miles away, I could see it in the distance)
I reached my limit when I saw two coming towards me as i was heading towards an island he told me about, and that’s only because he was busy prepping me for a more dangerous, non-whale, threat. and that’s ok, you can’t get over a severe fear in one play of a game.
ANYWHO what I’m trying to say is video games are a great way to break illogical fears. I do live next to the ocean after all, and it’s something I have to deal with (there are statues and murals of right whales EVERYWHERE here, and it’s hard for me to predict how strong my reaction will be on any given day). I had so much fun and having the option at any point to just quit the game and having someone to encourage you not to is great! I felt so terrified but also safe, it’s weird but it helped a bunch. I went and saw the right whale statue by the pier and wasn’t freaked out at all!
so yeah. play horror games, it helps
Slow as usual but I'm catching up to post this! This was an image I did for an article for the Unofficial Gorillaz fanzine that just came out on Insta:D Cetaphobia is a bitch.
Am I the only one who developed an intense whale phobia as a kid because of that Fantasia 2000 movie? Like what the fuck Disney
