This might be an unpopular opinion, but I headcanon Ford as a regressor just due to everything he's been through with Bill and the portal, and Stan is his CG
Ford used to keep it secret in his lab, but one day he forgot to lock the door and Stan walked in on him sitting on the floor without his coat on, stress chewing on his hand. Ford was clearly startled and tried to stand up too quickly but stumbled back and almost started crying but held it back
Stan knew something was off and sat down with him to try and get him to talk, and it took a *while* for Ford to open up about it.
One thing leads to research, and research lead to acceptance and Stan becoming his Caregiver.
Stan sits in his lab with him to look after him and he got him chewelry to stop him from chewing on his hands. Ford is a big fan of coloring (part of why he drew everything in his Journals instead of just taking pictures) and he'll show Stan all his drawings, who puts them on this mini-fridge in the lab
