How are the fandoms for Danganronpa and Five Nights at Freddy's squeamish to graphic fanworks for such media when the core concepts of the media in question are literally based around kids dying in horrific ways? Like child death is a common trigger and even I, someone with a decent gore tolerance, have it myself.
When fanworks like Tetro Danganronpa Blue have the killer flay and behead their victim so they could impersonate them by wearing their skin in Chapter 3 (alongside some cannibalism in that chapter), there's a whole bunch of uproar about it. Granted, the contents of Chapter 3 were leaked amidst a big controversy the project as a whole and the creator got into, so that might've heightened emotions and knee jerk reactions, but for a fandom about teenagers being brutally killed, it feels odd to me that they're sensitive to that.
I also brought up FNAF, as while I haven't seen a controversy around the same size as Blue for this fanwork from it, I'd also seen some criticisms for TwelveMan's Juniors' Archive (FNAF VHS) series where William Afton literally deep fried a baby over it being similarly too graphic. Like Danganronpa, FNAF involves kids getting murdered.
Maybe it's the autism in me, but I'm confused by this dissonance. It's like if me, a fan of Houshun Takami's Battle Royale, being grossed out by fan works about ninth graders being forced to fight to the death in graphic detail. After all, why engage with violent media but freak out at fanworks for them that are just as violent if not more so?
