benn's statement about shanks here right before he completely wrecks kidd is very reminiscent of luffy's similar line referencing his observation haki in udon right before exploding babanuki.

benn says of shanks やべェ未来が見えた様だ/yabē mirai ga mieta you da ('it seems like he saw a bad future') while luffy says ちょっとやべェ未来見えたから/chotto yabē mirai mieta kara ('(because) i saw a pretty bad future'). the surrounding particles are different, but the central phrasing is the same.

On one hand I'm so happy we got to see a named attack from Shanks and it's named THAT

I know people were all very excited for Shanks to finally used a named attack and then he just...uses Roger’s...but I’m guessing since Kid’s using Damned Punk here (which involves creating a giant railgun) that Shanks pushing that attack back at him before he can launch it basically causes it to explode on Kid himself so that’s a lot of damage to absorb.

This is just brutal, though, but considering Kid was totally fine with his attack blasting through the people gathered on shore as well there’s some justification for it on Dorry and Brogy’s end.

And now of course we get the question of whether Kid or any of his crew survived but as I’ve said before, with this series unless I see a body or a grave marker or have definitive narrative confirmation that someone’s dead (and sometimes even that isn’t enough!) I assume there’s always a chance that a character is actually alive.

The thing with Kid, though, is that I don’t know where we go from here. He was always presented as a direct rival to Luffy in the sense that their end goal of becoming the pirate king was the same and that’s really the only ‘dream’ of his we’ve ever seen. Right now the only ‘true’ contenders for the One Piece are pretty much Luffy, Shanks and Blackbeard (and...whatever the Cross Guild is up to, I guess...) so I think this definitively takes him out of the running so the question is, at this point in the story, is Oda going to introduce some new purpose for him? Because without that it’s hard to say what him coming back would bring to the narrative...

This does make me wonder if Shanks...perhaps changed his plan of attack after reading the information that he got on Kid and I think it’s important to note that it doesn’t get brought up too often but Kid is...not a nice person.

Way back on Sabaody his introduction stated that the reason his bounty was higher than Luffy’s at the time (and this was after Luffy had defeated multiple Warlords and personally declared war on the World Government) was because he had no issue causing civilian casualties, and after the time-skip we see him crucifying enemy pirates who were trying to escape and laughing about it so in essence a lot of that is quite literally the antithesis of what Shanks himself stands for.
