the way shigaraki is now one of those well spoken and charming villains whose speeches make too much sense and they're IMPOSSIBLE TO HATE... I am NOT well.
a coda to ch. 363
the anger, it simmered under the surface, he could tell with one glance, as an undulating wave of emotion flickered in his gaze.
it burned, the judgement, the shame. the way the other wouldn’t let him apologize. a vicious guilt stirring the acid in his gut. a nauseous blackhole; sucking away any goodness that had only began to permeate their lives.
his life—a sick joke—without the laughter.
if he was supposedly perfect, his family life, how come he was never able to get the things he truly wanted?
perfect was a mask; it was pure confidence, curated to protect himself from the things that could hurt. to protect him from people who could hurt him. and that was the thing, he’d slowly let mo into his life, gave him small glimpses, not the whole truth. maybe that was his mistake, maybe things would have been different if he’d opened up earlier.
but what would it change?
would it change the fury in guan shan’s eyes at this moment? would it lessen the ache that had settled in his stomach since yesterday? how his own anger was beginning to surge at the fact that this poor boy thought so low of himself—when he was anything but the sort?
this boy, he was the beacon of light that he’d been fortunate enough to meet, as much as mo thought they shouldn’t have met in the first place. he was the reason that he’d been able to wake up some mornings, knowing that he was the sort of person who wasn’t just trying to befriend him because of his ‘status’.
and he didn’t know that. this silly boy, the one he’d started putting his feelings towards, didn’t know how special he was.
guan shan hadn’t enjoyed his presence from the start, because of his status, and showed his contempt early on in their interactions. it wasn’t had to notice how strongly he didn’t favor him. but he’d thought they had slowly began to establish a tentative friendship. as much as their little quartet was so mismatched, it was the closest he’d had to true friends his whole life. they’d all been relatively happy, the past couple weeks.
and he wasn’t going to let that go, he wasn’t going to let mo guan shan go.
not yet.
for both of their sakes.
