I ❤️ your blog, here is my question: Could u please tell me if the translations of these 2 panels are wright? The sentences start the same? Ch: 585 after Ace shouts about becoming a pirate, Luffy shouts too. But what he said is incomplete. The translation said: 「I'm gonna be...」. (Honestly I assumed that he was saying "I'm going to be king of the Pirates") but why its incomplete? 🤔 I ask this because in ch: 966 Oda does the same with Roger 「I'm gonna be...」. And we never heard the end.

yeah, okay, so, basically luffy says おれはな!!/ore wa na!! and roger says おれはよ!!/ore wa yo!! which in both cases is like saying ‘I WILL-!!’ and then, yeah, it’s never finished.

though i can say this is not how luffy usually starts his declaration that he’s gonna be king of the pirates- he phrases that as 海賊王におれはなる/kaizoku-ou ni, ore wa naru! instead. which isn’t necessarily confirmation that that’s not what he said here, because you can say it the other way, but it does strike me as worth pointing out.

1. I knew that a chapter title page like this existed but I didn’t realize it happened before we saw Sabo as an adult holy shit

2. The note the gorilla is waving says the exact same thing as the one they left at the restaurant they dined and dashed from in their flashback, but written properly in kanji (宝払い/takarabarai) this time instead of being spelled out in the simpler hiragana (たからばらい/takarabarai). It means like ‘treasure account’ or ‘treasure bill.’ So they just straight up have not changed at all.

Second of all, I’ve mentioned before in my post about how the Straw Hats talk that Chopper’s use of ore and omae comes across a little bit as him trying to sound tough and grown up? Okay, so take that and multiply it by like three (since they’re even younger and rougher-spoken) to get the general effect of the ASL brothers’ speech patterns as kids.
