I’m reminded of the part of Robin’s flashback where she chose to stay with a bunch of condemned criminals on Ohara because no one else was kind to her, not even her own family
In some ways nothing has changed, but at the same time, she’s come so far

Professor Clover could have begged for his life and the lives of the other archeologists, but chose to spend his last moments thumbing his nose at the Elder Stars instead. Absolute respect.
Look how happy he is to kill a bunch of people
There’s a lot of emphasis in this flashback about the importance of Tree of Knowledge, which, obviously, in universe it is. There’s 5000 years of history there, of course it’s a major cultural touchstone within the One Piece world. But given the recent reveals in the manga, it feels like Oda was trying to tell us something, that the secrets of the series are hidden within the Tree
So Oda revealed in an SBS that this dude is Kalifa’s dad, and I choose to believe that means that Kalifa’s known Spandam since she’s been a little kid. I can only imagine that the day she realized he was going to be her boss was one of the most miserable of her life
This pretty much confirms that Akainu unilaterally made the decision to blow up the evacuation ship and that killing the ordinary citizens of Ohara was never in the original plans for the Buster Call.
But they did die, and as far as we know Akainu was never punished for it. It obviously didn’t end up hurting his career any in the long run.
The World Government is the epitome of cutting off your nose to spite your face. Everything about this “investigation” is done in the most destructive way possible on purpose just to make a point. They don’t care about wiping away 5000 years of history, so long as that one century stays safely hidden.
