Chapter 432
I feel like this little bit is the strongest showing of Garp's character in just a few panels. He was careless enough to break down the wall just because he felt like it, but without being asked repaired it afterward. When his men (rightly) call him out on it, Garp listens and helps fix it himself, without forcing the people under him to do it instead. Like Luffy he's a destructive force of nature who doesn't always think things through, but where I think Luffy would just leave it broken unless told to fix it, Garp takes the initiative to help rebuilt what's been broken.
For all you folks out there wondering how marine ranks work
I honestly don't think that after so long training marines and fighting dudes like Roger that Garp realized that this might have been dangerous
Chimney is just living for this drama
Biggest glowup in the series, and I'll fight anyone who disagrees with me. I do appreciate that Oda kept the cowlick that looks like the marine seagull pretty understated. That feels like the sort of thing Oda would usually exaggerate for a quick gag.
