On top of that, it's not like Rose was a doe-eyed child. She doesn't seem at *all* like the type who would just go along with anyone. Someone like her, especially from her social class, seems like they'd be really street wise.

This ask is in reply to a Break-Your-Muse anon that essentially said, “Rose was too young for The Doctor, and he’s a creeper.” Ten slammed the Anon (sorry Nonny!), but I, as the mun, agree that it’s a good way to get a reaction out of the muse, so kudos to the Anon for successfully doing that!

Cue some ramblings under the cut.

So, chainsofbitterness has a point here! Rose is not innocent. When Nine finds her, she’d moved out of the house once to live with a now-ex. She and her family are implied to be of a lower socio-economic status. Her father died at a young age, leaving her and Jackie to survive on their own. Rose is street-smart, and the world hasn’t been kind to her. So, “innocent” is one thing that Rose most certainly is not. But, the cruelty of her world didn’t make her unkind; a testament to her beauty as a person.

While IM-ing me, tomxhuck pointed out also that the age argument loses its validity when one realizes that, while Rose met The Doctor at 19--consenting adult age, even if she is still a teenager--by the time Nine becomes Ten, it’s implied that there’s at least been a year since their first meeting. To my knowledge, series 2 also took place over a year or so (though I may be incorrect about that also). This then puts her at 2 years of knowing The Doctor, meaning that she is 21 by the time she ends up at Bad Wolf Bay. So, in many countries, she has reached an age that many would consider emotionally and mentally mature.

Combined with the fact that humans age far faster than Gallifreyans (Morty compared it to “dog years”, and that’s an apt analogy), and she and The Doctor are, relatively speaking, not grossly far in physical and mental age.

So, that’s why Ten doesn’t feel as if their relationship is squicky. Thanks for the commentary, everyone!
