The start of a New Year is always a little hectic at Hands of Spirit as we are doing our end of the year inventory. During our cleaning up, I have been wanting to update some “bad” Etsy pics for pieces that just didn’t have a great photo shoot. This stunning Chalcedony sculpture was one such piece. Another stone that I am always attracted to, is Chrysoprase. It is a variety of Chalcedony. You may be surprised to learn how many stones are actually a variety of Chalcedony. All Agates, Jaspers, Carnelian, Bloodstone and of course Chrysoprase. Chrysoprase stands out with its defining character of jelly green coloring and translucent nature. There are many things about the mineral kingdom to be awed by, but one of my favorites, is the affect that light has on the minerals. Here are two examples. Daylight Fluorescent Fluorite, fluoresces blue when it is taken outside. When it is inside, it is green. Another example is Blue Chalcedony and the translucency when light is put behind it. Light can completely change how a crystal, or mineral looks. Would you guess that this specimen is actually Ajoite? Now, can you guess what is growing over the Ajoite? If you are thinking Chalcedony, then you would be correct! This very unusual specimen comes from the Messina Mine in S. Africa and is Chalcedony over Ajoite in Quartz. It’s has brilliant coloring and tons of Ajoite! Agate is incredible. The amount of varieties that exist is mind blowing. One of my personal favorites, is Mozambique Agate. The colors and designs are are lovely and remind me of the tropics. We don’t come across Mozambique Agate all that often but are always happy when we do.
