Saturday November 17th – Challenging Stereotypes
Select a gendered card, preferably one where the gender of the card gives you difficulty when it shows up in readings. Lay that card down then shuffle your deck without it. Draw a card for each of the following questions: What about how this card challenges me is tied to my past? What about how this card challenges me is tied to my gender? What about how this card challenges me is tied to society? Bonus: Select an extra card for each to speak to how to overcome those challenges.
I had only a couple cards from this deck that I felt would work for the gendered card. Strangely enough, they are ALL in the layout here. The card I chose is the Two of Swords, because these two bitches just look like the biggest TERFs. I have never been comfortable in 'wombyn-only' spaces. This card reeks of that to me.
The Lovers card was yesterday's anchor card. It was also one of the very few cards I considered using as the gendered card. Perhaps the TERF-y Two is challenging to me because I never had a "true" lesbian experience? Or was this my mom discovering me in bed with my best friend when I was 14 and getting a bit freaked out.
What I find even weirder is that the card below it for how to overcome that challenge -- the Ten of Wands -- was the only other card from this deck I'd considered using as the focal point for today's reading. If we metaphorically burn TERFs at the stake, they become martyrs.
The thing about the TERF-y Two's challenge that is tied to my gender came up as the Eight of Cups, which I had chosen on Day 6 to represent my external gender presentation. That's just me being 'not wombyn enough' for them.
The Six of Cups was the focal point for Day 10's reading about Childhood. I didn't write anything then about how very adult this particular card is, but looking at it now, it seems a very odd choice to represent childhood. Here in this reading, it's saying that I'm offering what I'm offering, and if people don't like it, they don't have to buy it.
Cancer, King of Water is every man who has a vast library of lesbian porn, but believes homosexuality is a sin.
Aries came up on Day 12. What I'm reading from it here is that drawing parallels between TERFs and Nazis is not wrong.
