Okaaaay so. This was a Process. I wanted to draw the Simurgh (and it's ?kinda partner? the Chamrosh) so I did. I believe it's from Persian mythology (though that was like 2 seconds on google so please correct me if I'm wrong) and is a mix of a dog and a peafowl with lion claws.
That first image is of an Indian peafowl x Sarabi dog Simurgh.
But I wasn't happy with it so I redesigned it as a Saluki dog x Indian peafowl.
THEN I realised I wanted to redesign it again with a Green Peafowl x Saluki dog because I wanted it to be two species actually native to Persia where the Simurgh is from.
So- behold the end result!
An older creature from Librum Prodigiosum! The Chamrosh, from Persian mythology! Said to live at the summit of Mount Alborz, this wolf/ Eagle beast is sometimes described as a protector of all birds on Earth!
Unbound Monsters - The Ancient Desert
Not actually monsters from the ancient desert itself, but “land of diverse biomes between two rivers” just had not the same ring to it.
I had alot of fun with this. Mesopotamian/Babylonian mythology has always been something that interested me greatly and that I have been using for my private game quite alot.
I want to stress that I took alot of creative freedoms with the original material. So this is by no means representative of the original mythos. I encourage everyone to educate themselves on the original lore of these creatures. Though, you will not find much on the Kus-Kusu. That one is based on the 4E Lamia which I thought was a neat monster.

A quick animation ref while I work on the animatic... This is the one of the characters who will be seen in the first episode, an over-excitable dog/bird hybrid called Chow-Chowmrosh.
From the Vastland - I & My Serpents
Chamrosh is a creature from Persian mythology, described as having the body of a dog and the head and wings of a bird. It is the archetype of all birds, said to rule and protect all avian life on earth.
Chamrosh lives on the ground beneath a soma tree on Mount Alborz. The simurgh roosts in the tree, and when it takes flight from or lights on the tree, seeds fall to the ground. Chamrosh gathers the seeds and distributes them around the globe.

This is a twist on the Persian mythology of the Chamrosh, which has a body of a dog with the head of a bird. It’s said that Chamrosh comes and hits the seeds out of the Soma tree with his wings, then scatters them down into the sea for them to be picked up in a cloud, and spread across the earth.
