A balanced nutritious diet is one of the most fundamental parts as an actor and it is what will help keep them in good shape and will allow them to progress through rehearsals. Of course it is not just what you eat but the quantity of the food you eat which is right for the activeness you may have during your whole day. Now of course you can understand that as an actor you will be on your feet all day. Even with physical theatre, that is very gruelling and the process does demand a lot from your physically and you will need to have the right energy in being able to carry out all the work in the space. With a balanced diet, you will need a range of foods which include fruit and vegetables, plenty of bread, rice, potatoes and other starchy foods. With fruit and vegetables, they can you the vitamins and sugars in an adequate amount which contribute to have glucose of high short bursts of energy. And with starchy foods like listed above, they are carbohydrates which actually help very much in giving you long lasting energy that burns slowly. So when for example, you are doing a run-through of a very physical piece, the carbohydrate energy can fuel you for longer in going through rigorous physical movements, so it is much to your advantages as an actor to consume those foods. Other foods that should be included in a balanced diet would be milk, dairy foods, meat, fish, eggs, beans etc.
As an actor the foods that should be consumed for the benefits as a physical performer, would be to base your meals on starchy foods as these give your energy. Wholegrain varieties would beneficial. Eating at least five portions of a variety of fruit and vegetables a day would also be great for you, it gives you a high amount of good vitamins that can strengthen the body. As for anyone, not just an actor, but is equally important for the physical performer. Eating your breakfast is the most fundamental part of the day as it will give you the energy you will need for your day and the start of your physical performance. Eating foods like porridge which is whole grain, corn flakes, cereal energy bars with a mix of peanuts etc. would be great to consume in the morning, not forgetting some fluids that can get you through the day. That means avoiding caffeine of fizzy drinks as that energy is short and not long lasting, plus rather un-healthy for the body as a performer.
