To be flattered or to be offended, that is the question. A dilemma, being a woman, I am faced with often.
When someone checks me out top to bottom, is that invasive? If I stop and say something, will I be overreacting? Will it make matters worse and I'll end up being embarrassed? What if someone softly whistles as a pass by? Or maybe starts humming a song. Should I try having a conversation with the person, should I punch them or should I just walk away. What is the fine line between someone being appreciative of my looks and someone objectifying me? Then there are those that are super chatty. You probably don't message your parents or best friends as much as they expect answers to their constant inquiries on all social media platforms they can possibly find you on. Are they just being friendly or are you their next target?
How much warrants crossing 'the line'? Who and what defines 'the line'? Do I get to decide my line? Or do I accept the line that society seems to have decided for me? I can't possibly hold the fort against a majority even though I feel violated when they say it's me who is overreacting; when they say I need to be more tolerant; when they say it must have been my fault to begin with.
Do I change 'the line' or follow it, that is the real question.
