The Secret History vs Gossip Girl characters
I'm on my second read of TSH while also rewatching GG for the millionth time and I've noticed many similarities between both friend groups.
Dan Humphrey → Richard Papen
The most obvious comparison. Both are outsiders who romanticize the elite world they desperately want to be a part of. They start off idealizing their new social circles but gradually realize how toxic and corrupt they actually are. Both have a love-hate relationship with the people they admire, resenting them while still craving their approval, i.e. Henry and Serena or just everyone really lmao
Blair Waldorf → Henry Winter
Blair and Henry are both highly intelligent, controlling and strategic. They manipulate people around them, have a strong sense of aesthetics and tradition, and view love as something to be conquered. Blair’s obsession with perfection is similar to Henry’s obsession with order.
Jenny Humphrey → Bunny Corcoran
Both start as outsiders who desperately want to be part of the group, but neither fully understands the consequences of it. Bunny is more tolerated than what he is accepted, much like Jenny in the Upper East Side. Both also push things too far until they become liabilities to their groups.
Serena van der Woodsen → Camilla Macaulay
Somewhat obvious. Both Serena and Camilla are effortlessly beautiful and ethereal figures who are loved by almost everyone but remain slightly elusive. They don’t have control over their groups like the way Blair or Henry, but their presence is still central. Both are kind of passive, following the others rather than taking direction.
Chuck Bass → Charles Macaulay
Both Chuck and Charles are self-indulgent and self-destructive. They go around with a with an air of cynicism, masking their vulnerabilities with arrogance and hedonism. Also, there's the interesting parallel of Chuck’s twisted dynamic with Blair and Charles’ incestuous connection to Camilla.
Nate Archibald → Francis Abernathy
They both come from old money and appreciate beauty, fashion, and luxury, but neither is as engaged as the rest of their groups. They go with the flow much like Serena/Camilla but without getting as involved. Like they have a level of detachment that keeps them from getting as deeply entangled in their group's crimes. Also, kind of desperate for love tbh.
BONUS
Vanessa Abrahams → Judy Poovey
They parallel as outsiders to the main group, connected but never truly accepted. Both reject the elitism surrounding them: Vanessa sells herself like bohemian and anti-materialist, and Judy goes with her carefree and blunt demeanor. They both represent a countercultural presence in their respective stories, kind of cutting through the pretentiousness of the main circle. Judy is far better tbh, but both serve as contrasts to the intellectual or social snobbery of the main characters.
Georgina Sparks → Marion Barnbridge
Marion and Georgina can feel like invaders at times. Both are kind of emotionally volatile and messy. They stay on the periphery but come to be very important plotwise. They kind of arrive, stirr something up and then leave.
Carter Baizen → Cloke Rayburn
Carter and Cloke orbit the elite but never quite belong. He crashes the Upper East Side with his machinations and Cloke drifts around the Greek Class with drugs and maybe half-truths. Both shapeshift when necessary (Carter becomes the nice friend like Cloke plays the concerned friend for the press).
Lily Van Der Woodsen → Julian Morrow
Both Julian and Lily are cultivated but detached. They offer sophisticated shelter and guidance, though Julian does so through classical ideals and Lily through luxury and social grace. But they both manipulate the group and take distance when things get ugly, while presenting themselves like saviors. I did consider Bart Bass but he isn't as involved in the main characters' lives.
i relate to chaotic bisexuals only
An idea: prompt like
A villain decides to collaborate with one of the most influential businessman to get the stock market a bit messed up that would benefit that businessman's company, because a) he doesn't care and b) it sounds fun!
After some talks on what he has to do, this businessman leads him to a bedroom with dark curtains and shows him a little girl. "This is our present, do as you wish." Villain is a bit confused, what is it that he should do? Its a child. But then it clicks in his mind and he just feels something twisting in his stomach. "Okay, but leave us alone." He says finally.
When the businessman leaves the villain is still staring at this little girl. "How old are you?" "Twelve sir." "Twelve?!" Now he is furious and completely lost. "It IS just a child" he thinks to himself. He must do something but what he's the villain. So now it clicks the second time. "Girl, can you tell me everything about what they are making you to do? How many are there like you…" so he bombards this little girl with questions and with every answer he gets more sick. After a while he lets the girl go and he disappears himself without interacting with anyone.
The next day our hero hears loud banging outside his facility and some noises. When he looks at the camera it is the villain. Completely baffled he prepares to fight him, also thinking how he found the place and so on... but then he hears the villain's voice in the microphone: "I'm not here to fight. We need to talk, this is serious. It's about children and I need your help." At first the hero doesn't trust him, thinking he's bluffing but the villan looks different, kinda desperate so he lets him in.
"How did you find my place?"
"You live here for five years. It would be more surprising not to find it."
Now the hero is even more confused, "he knew this place existed for five years and didn't do anything?"
"Who do you think leaves those "u r lame, crime is fame" and "he's dope cause he does coke" notes?!
"That's you?!" "YOU DO COKE?!"
"Oh my god I thought you knew it was me! I thought you were just ignoring them!"
Now even more confused than ever hero finally asks why the fuck the villain came to the most dangerous place for him. And so the villain tells him what happened (with too much detail, leading to hero thinking he is high) but then the villain gets to the point: "so this monster is a pimp and he's using little children! She told me there are others, boys and girls her age, all doing horrible stuff because he "saved" them from the orphanages! We must do somethig! Well, you must do something, I'm the villain, I can't do good!"
The hero looks at the villain shocked and confused, but then he sees his desperate look: "okay, I will look into it. I need more information and a plan."
The villain's face lits up: "I knew I could trust you! I have to go now, I still promised that bastard to crash the market or something like that, I don't want him to get suspicious."
The hero still can't wrap his head about so much information at once so he just says "okay, I will contact you if I need something." But when he clears his mind and exclaims "you promised him to do what?!", the villain is already gone.

Top 5 Tuesday: Chaotic Characters
Hey, guys! It’s Tuesday, which means it’s time for a bookish favorites post. Top 5 Tuesday is hosted by Meeghan over on Meeghan Reads and is quite simple: check out the topic and write a post with your picks. This week, we’re talking about chaotic characters. As I was browsing my list of read books, I couldn’t really think of that many characters. And a quick browse through Goodreads actually…
