Mind, upset that he, Heart, and Soul were unable to become Whole, goes to talk to Heart. He offers to preen Heart’s wings, during which they talk about what to do next. Soul has gone missing, and neither of them have seen him for hours. They decide to go look for him, and fly out to the woods where Heart was in apathy. Upon realizing they are going to his hole, Heart asks Mind if he can stay behind, and Mind obliges, knowing he’ll come running as soon as he’s alone, and he does. He accidentally crashes into Mind, knocking him over and damaging his mechanical voice box. Mind panics while Heart repairs it. Once fixed, they continue to the pit, and upon arrival Mind checks in the hole, but Soul isn’t there.
Rui and Mizuki graduated colloge together. While Rui is a robotics engineer, Mizuki is finding their goal in life while helping Rui on the side. One day, while looking around in a junk yard, Mizuki finds a robot and asks Rui to look at it. Later they would find out the robot has the name "Tsukasa". Rui finds the robot fascinating and decides to take it home to repair. After he does repair him, Tsukasa turns on and observes his surroundings. Unfortunately, it seems that his memory card has been stolen, so Rui puts in a new one. But he still has his memory files, but again, because of the old memory card missing he can't really open the files. At the time, Rui was dating a girl named Nene. Rui caught his eye on Nene when she bumped into him in an alleyway. Rui admires Nene a lot; despite her ice cold skin and puppet-like eyes, she was perfect for him. One day, while he and Nene were on a date, Rui tells Nene about Tsukasa. Nene felt a kind of nostalgia and fear whenever he uttered his name, but she let Rui continue. Rui then offers her to meet with Tsukasa and she agrees. Rui brings Tsukasa to one of the parks near their home and introduces Nene to him. While Rui was explaining to Tsukasa what a girlfriend even is, he couldn't help but notice how Nene looked at Tsukasa. Almost like she saw a ghost. After he was done explaining, she wrapped his arm around Rui's and they began walking together. Tsukasa felt as he shouldn't walk with them, because they're meant to be with each other, he isn't meant to be anything yet. All of a sudden a kid crashes into Tsukasa, causing him to fall into a nearby river. Tsukasa hijacks but wakes up in Rui's workshop where he meets Mizuki for the first time. But then he meets someone else. A voice that talks to him in a mocking tone. He shakes it off, but he knows this won't be the last time he hears this voice. A few days later, Tsukasa's system gets hacked and a message gets sent to Rui.
"We will take him back to where he started"
This obviously freaked Rui out but the only thing to do was pretend everything was fine. Days pass by and Nene gets caught up in past memories. She remembers how she tried warning the love of her creation about the dangers of the environment they were in, but he didn't listen. He wanted to have hope in it, it was hard, but she had to leave him behind. Nene then confronts Rui and reveals most of things. She was a robot herself and was with Tsukasa when they were working together. This causes Rui to have a mental breakdown. His relationship of 3 years was an absolute lie, he couldn't handle it. He broke up with Nene and ran away in anger. He couldn't keep his anger though and when he went back home, he put all of it to Tsukasa to the point he shut him down and locked him up in a small room. This all backfires on him and causes him to have yet another breakdown. Then a purple haired robot appeared in front of Rui's window. The robot introduces herself as "Mafuyu". She explains how Tsukasa is in pain and a desperate situation, so instead of locking him up, he should help him. After calming Rui down, she leaves. Rui runs to Nene to have a talk and help him get Tsukasa out the room. Nene agrees and breaks down the door where Tsukasa was. The three of them have a warm conversation and Tsukasa reveals that he started remembering some of his past because of Nene. The latest one he remembers was the memory Nene was thinking about. They were definitely going to talk about this, but before that, they all neede a break.

Chapter 1: Writing on the Wall -- Posts 1 through 29
588 word summary
Orphaned from birth and given no information about her parents, Sadie was raised in the Church of Stawold. Her free-natured spirit strained against the structured life there. She left for the streets as soon as she reached womanhood but the challenges only changed, never waned. The dwarven owner of the Laughing Stag took a liking to her and let her earn herself a room through cleaning and serving drinks to the tavern patrons. Dwinain’s kindness grew on Sadie and she made the Stag her home. It was here that she found her passion for music through her friend Lysander and discovered her competitive nature through her rival Sasha. Feeding her passion, Dwinain gifted her a dulcimer and she became a favored performer for the tavern’s regulars.
Her connection to magic grew, unbeknownst to Sadie herself until one day her anger toward Sasha opened the Weave to her conscious mind. Now able to wield magic, she cultivated a name for herself as not only a performer, but a reliable adventurer the townsfolk could call upon for help. It was this reputation that put her directly into the sights of Taerand Calentavar.
New to town, Taerand quickly climbed the ranks and bought his way into the good graces of the Stawold elite. He settled into the second largest manor in town and with his large amount of coin, nobody seemed to protest. Within a few months, Sadie had performed for him and knew him from a distance which made the letter from Taerand addressed to her something she never expected. The letter brought together Sadie and three other capable adventurers to fetch an emerald that was stolen from him and smuggled to the Wraefen.
Together Kireen the red dragonborn paladin, K’lai’a’la the wood elf ranger, Donar the black dragonborn fighter, and Sadie the halfling bard all bonded through the perils the Wraefen held. They survived plummeting through the ground into an underwater cavern, lizardfolk raiders, and bugs large enough to eat tiny Sadie whole. Their last challenge was to make it to the center of the ettercap nest where the emerald was said to be located. With web being extremely flammable, the plan to set the forest alight was the only option as they were not strong enough to defeat a full nest of ettercaps. In a single moment of ignorance, they lit the forest on fire while standing near the epicenter and the flames spread faster than they could run. Kireen and K’lai’a’la found a secure place to hide but Sadie and Donar were left to flee on foot. They made it to a creek, badly burned, only for leeches to attack and drain the last bit of life from Sadie. With Sadie’s death heavy on their hearts, they entered the charred forest and retrieved their glittering prize.
Kireen and K’lai’a’la would not rest until their friend’s soul was restored. Taerand offered to retrieve it for a price but Kireen did not trust him. They travelled three days to find Ragna Eira, the Witch of the Wilderlands and found that her price was more than they were able to pay. Empty-handed, they returned with Kireen and K’lai’a’la begrudgingly accepting Taerand’s offer in return for their service to him for a second time. Donar revealed that he was not interested in continued loyalty to the party and promptly took his pay, never to be seen again.
It was a joyous reunion when Sadie was finally resurrected but now the favor to Taerand is left hanging over all of their heads.
Some things to note: Since we assume the role of Teacher in my summaries I refer to Teacher as you. Excluding the chapters that have translations (which i have linked on here as well) these are just summaries based off of things I mainly remembered or interpreted so I’ll likely revise the summaries when I post the proper translation. If anything and you know what’s going on in the stories feel free to correct me!
Episode 2: You somehow managed to do it even though you had no idea what was going on or anything about this and thanks to your help the girls procure their first victory! The second years are very happy about this and then explain to you what just happened. Hinata proposes that you become their beat manager while Ayame makes it very clear she’s distrustful of you.
----
Episode 3: You wake up to see Anri greeting you (How did she get in there we’ll never know~) You don’t remember her and she basically reminds you of yesterday and rushes you to come out. Everyone’s having breakfast at the cafeteria and is waiting for you including the Director. Hotaru snaps a pic of I presume her food and says it looks good today and Mei’s quiet. Then the Director pulls you aside and apologies and stuff and basically asks you to be their beat manager and you’re all like “I wanna support them ye!” so basically congrats you’re the beat manager now and Director says she has a small present to give you.
Episode 4: Director announces to the girls you’ll be their beat manager. The second years are happy and Ayame is still wary so Anri, who’s supportive of Ayame, decides reluctantly to be opposed to it because Ayame is. Yukina takes Ayame’s side too (I think) while Hotaru doesn’t care and just wants to go on Piko Piko Douga. Mei’s silent on the matter (I think Ayame and the first years leave?? but I could be wrong) then Anri laughs and offers you support. Hinata says it’ll all be okay and “let’s work hard together.”
Episode 5: (a personal favorite of mine because this one one of the chapters they go into more details about the functions of live battles so yay information!)
The second years offer their support and then go on to answer your questions on how everything works. Suzune gives (the most amazing) example of how a beat manager is basically like the conductor of an orchestra. Then they go on to explain concepts such as: live battles are online music battles that compete over performances. Half of the votes in these battles are determined by the audience and the other half by Mother. People all over the world can watch the battles online or on TV. There’s a regular battle stage and then an upper battle stage which is where Mother is and people can go to the upper battle stage if they win five consecutive victories. When you get there you can challenge Mother in a live battle. After that Hinata states something along the lines of since half the votes are humans it’s tough to win which is where Mei comes in (yay she speaks!) about how the possibility of them winning isn’t zero and she believes (in their team winning I presume) to which Hinata and Ayame agree though Ayame snide comments about how she’s not so sure about believing in you.
Episode 6: Apparently you’ve just finished your first official live battle with the girls as their beat manager and while you’re relieved you did it Ayame ain’t having it. It seems you messed up big time on something and the performance was cutting it close to being bad. Even Anri reluctantly agrees and says something about how she had to leave it up to Hinata for it to work out. Suzune and Akari shyly tell Ayame that they think she might be going a bit too far but she retaliates that with points such as you’re the beat manager that’s supposed to conduct them so you can’t get sloppy and declares how she just wants to win (which explains why she’s being so strict and worried about you messing up stuff for them). Hinata thinks that regardless Ayame’s being a bit too harsh to you and continues to defend you with Akari and Suzune’s help while Mei’s still quiet. Then Ayame counters with you should notice some of the girls are tired (Hotaru and Yukina are shown being tired) and you decide “we need to practice” which she kinda but kinda doesn’t agree with.
Time skip to the cafeteria where Ayame greets you but you notice she looks sad and don’t know what to do. Then you talk to the Director and she basically is all “aww that stinks” and you’re all “we need to practice” again.
Episode 7: It’s practice day and you come in to see Hinata and Suzune already there. Suzune’s helping Hinata with her singing practice and you’re just admiring from a distance. It’s at that point Akari surprises you from behind and yells at Suzune and Hinata that you’re peeping at them (I laughed so hard at this. Akari you jokester <3). They’re happy you’re there to practice with them. Then Hinata goes on to say how nostalgic this is and how you’ve already heard her song(sing?) before to which Akari and Suzune are surprised to learn that you both knew each other already, you’re also surprised since it seems you don’t remember or recognize her till then which makes her a little sad. Then... Mei speaks again! (Is she like watching them from a corner or through the window? Who knows~) Mei basically is all ominous and speaks abut how you and the second years are finally synching up but it’s not enough (cause duh you gotta be with all the girlies)
Episode 8: Anri asks if you’re free and you reply with a unsure “uhh...after I’m done writing a report after school yeah...?” so she tells you to meet her in her room later (in her charming way of pauses between words of course). Time skip and you meet her in the dormitory then lo and behold you end up not going to her room but to Ayame’s instead. Ayame of course is surprised by this because she had no idea and basically you both talk and start to get along because this is when she starts to trust you. You tell her something about her being perfect and she’s flattered by this (and in my opinion you basically see her for what she is; a some-what strict girl who means well and just wants to do/be her best for herself and those around her. She doesn’t mean to be so harsh it’s just she cares that much while at the same time being shy and bashful. Kinda like a best of both worlds sense) and I guess she seems to start understanding you and how you mean well too? So she’s all “let me make tea” and when she goes to do that Anri talks about her and then is all "sorry for being awkward and for the cramped room but Ayame is my best friend so be a firm teacher okay!" And Mei’s returns and seems to be ominously hanging out in the halls and I’m guessing eavesdropping because she goes on noting the progress you’re making.
Episode 9: Cafeteria time! Or, better yet, Noodles vs Ice Cream!? Choose your side! Hotaru’s on the noodle side and how yummy they are while Yukina opposes saying ice cream is tastier. Then you show up and they’re all “what are you doing here?”. You redirect the question and Yukina says she recently got back from work (but like come on Chronus if you haven’t while I was gone give us some of Yukina’s work I wanna see posters of her at work please) (also why is the BGM SO GOOD like man that rock) Then Hotaru’s all “oh snap can’t say I’m here for Piko Piko Douga” in her head while out loud she says “I’m studying...”. You don’t believe her (which I find hilarious) and she says your thoughts are written on your face (laughter increases x2). Then you end up talking to them and you’re on both side; go noodles and ice cream! (As much as I love Yukina I’m sorry but I’m on Hotaru’s side on that one. Still love you Yukina <3) And something about how you think it’s cool to give it your all on stuff you like and something about watching your meals. Then you wonder if you’ll be able to talk causally like that with everyone someday and realize you don’t know anything about Mei (finally acknowledgement about her lack of presence). Then again the ominous Mei returns to her secret observations and states how everyone’s forming bonds and now her with everyone will too or something like that.
Episode 10: (Woooo the Mei chapter) Director calls you in to tell you that it’s a bit sudden but she has to talk to you about Mei and reveals she’s an android and Mei’s all “yeah I’m just like the androids from all the live battles”. Then you ask and Director tells you that nobody knows except her, you, and of course Mei. Then you talk more and ask why is an android in a human team that’s trying to beat androids (a good question indeed Teacher) to which she says she wants to live battle with them and that isn’t a lie and then says the future of the music of this world is in your hands (geez no pressure Mei)
Episode 11: Seems like it’s practice time again but only you, Hinata, and Suzune are in the room. They tell you Akari’s running a bit late because of her dance practice (I think it’s so epic to learn that even though she’s a part of their team she does dancing on the side. It just goes to show how into dancing she is and like Yukina it shows that the girls do things outside of their group and that’s a-okay). You seem disheartened about almost everyone not being there but Hinata reassures you and says it’ll be fine. Then Suzune talks about music and androids and how she thinks that the music humans make is even better than androids and how you and Hinata are kind and how she wants to continue this with everyone. Hinata agrees and says how it’s all fun and she enjoys everything and wants to share that with everyone as well as you and ends her point with “lets practice. if we give it our all everyone will come” or something along those lines. Akari comes running in and apologizes for being late and explains herself then asks if you’re crying (lol) and you seem to be getting happier about the current situation.
Episode 12: Hinata at it again with the “it’s okay!” Then Ayame comes in and lectures you about being honest with mistakes and stuff followed by Anri who says that she needs to be honest with them too (you go Anri <3) to which Ayame gets all bashful and Anri goes on to explain they were late because of student counsel work. Hotaru follows and mutters how she apparently swung by to check on y’all but doesn’t approve of you and made it clear from the beginning (but in a totally tsundere way in my opinion). Yukina’s next and comes in exhausted and chastising you (I think because you said they’d be having practice last minute or something. I’m not sure). Now is Mei’s time where she’s all “everyone is here” and how she was waiting and that everyone’s power can make anything possible including reaching Mother. Then Akari interjects with a teasing “I knew it sensei you’re crying~” (cutie). Then it’s at this point that Ayame says that she doesn’t fully trust you but she understands where you’re coming from and how she’ll come to accept you little by little (so basically the whole harsh-ish sounding to bashful and wooo she verbally has accepted you!! Achievement unlocked!!!). Akari says something and Ayame stutters a “h-how rude!” (shikkeina!) which Mei mishears as “death penalty” (shikeina) to which Hotaru states she’s not right but not wrong (lol) and Hinata laughs (like I did) then wooo practice is officially on!
Episode 13: Seems like it was a huge success! Everyone seems content with practice and say it in their own ways and Mei’s all “I knew it...with these members...” (gurl what are your motives. I’m so close to calling Mei ominous-chan with these vibes). Director laughs (was she always there or did she just come in at some point? Again, who knows~) Then time skip and Ayame seems like she’s being picky with things (which is completely understandable when analyzing a practice *cough* I feel ya girl *cough*) and Hinata comes in with her reassurances and “let’s work together”. Then the girls end up explaining to you about BAN, which like the definition of the word basically means that if you lose a lot you can get banned from live battles and the girls seem to talk solemnly about this but then positive Hinata turns the tables around and the second years talk about how pumped they are to practice again while Hotaru doesn’t want to do it now and Ayame’s all “Teacher, you best be doing your best” or something like that and Anri and Yukina fall back on that while (Ominous-chan) Mei states she knew she wasn’t wrong.
Chapter 1 Summary: Cultural Anthropology a Toolkit for a Global Age
Chapter One is an overview of Anthropology as a whole and is an introduction to globalization. The chapter opens with a story featuring the women of Plachimada, India who protested Coca Cola after their local water table dropped. Not only that, but it becomes polluted with chemicals from the factory, and polluted the groundwater for miles aways. As the women began to protest, solidarity protests around the world took place as well. Eventually, the factory was shut down, but within that time two more similar appeared in India since. This real world example is used to introduce anthropology by building the connections between things that people may have no impact on them and vice-versa.
This chapter has four main topics: what anthropology means, how anthropology is viewed, what globalization means, and how globalization has impacted anthropology. The book defines anthropology as “study of the full scope of human diversity, past and present, and the application of that knowledge to help people of different backgrounds better understand one another (Guest 7)”. The brief background lists anthropologists Franz Boas and Audrey Richards and describes the contribution that has made to the profession. These anthropologists, however, are not modern day anthropologists, so books state that “more than half of anthropologists today work in applied anthropology… (Guest 9)”.
Next is ethnocentrism, which is the “...the strong human tendency to believe that one’s own culture or way of life is normal, natural, and superior to the beliefs and practices of others (Guest 9)”, is a term of high importance as all anthropologists strive to be as objective as possible.
The book states that anthropology is global in scope, yet still, starts with people and their communities (Guest 10). Cultural anthropologists collect fieldwork through ethnographies in which their immerse themselves into the culture and practices of the group they are studying. Anthropologists collect fieldwork, they study people and power structures, and they believe that all humans are connected.
Next, there are four types of anthropology: Archaeological (the investigation of the human past via artifacts), Biological (the study of how humans physically changed over time), Linguistic (the study of human languages in both the past and the present), and Cultural (the study of people’s everyday lives and communities) (Guest 12-18).
Then the book introduces globalization. Globalization is the "the worldwide intensification of interactions and increased movement of money, people, goods, and ideas within and across national borders (Guest 17)”. There are four key idea that globalization includes: time-space compression (the belief that technologies such as cars and the internet have compressed time and space), flexible accumulation (companies having the ability to seek out cheaper ways to make money as a result of transportation and communication), increasing migration (people moving around the world for various reason such as jobs or war), and uneven development (not everyone reaps the benefits of globalization equally) (Guest 18-20).
Lastly, the chapter closes with the idea that globalization has a negative impact on the environment due to waste and is changing the way communities feel.
TFiOS Chapter 1 - Summary and Impressions So Far (Part 4/4)
Other Thoughts:
There is a distinct lack of an editor. Or, at least, a distinct drive to ignore the editor. From the beginning, the sentences have been almost insufferably l o n g. The style has been equal parts magniloquent, equal parts ‘quick, make sure she sounds 16!’, and the result is this weird hybrid that doesn’t sound genuine or flow. The proselytising would have reached a limit with me, if it wasn’t for the SUDDEN APPEARANCE OF A SCRIPT, OH MY FUCKING LORD. I just cannot find enough about this book to enjoy, nor enough reason to make myself continue, so I am certain that, during my reading of Chapter 2, I will find myself doing chores and reading literally anything so that I don’t have to read Chapter 2. Only the possibility of a murder as a result of Hazel’s misjudgement in going to the home of a creepy boy she’s just met will pull me through. There’s certainly nothing else driving the action and intrigue (of which I am finding none).
TFiOS Chapter 1 - Summary and Impressions So Far (Part 3/4)
(WARNING: tw: harrasment and sexual assault mention near the bottom)
Augustus:
The shame surrounding having a straight man write from the perspective of a presumed straight girl falling in love with a boy is that, unless he does his research and knows how to apply it, it’s very hard for the straight male author to write convincingly about falling in love with a boy, or even to realistically imagine what a teenage girl’s ideal boy would be. That’s the dilemma with the portrayal of Augustus Waters.
What might be seen as confident strikes me as an entitled arrogance. The way he’s described is mired in hyper-masculinity – from his lean muscles to the ‘aggressive’ way he sits is coded as super masculine bruh. The way he acts is just as bad: he shushes a girl in favour of his male friend’s input; he demands information about her (like her full name) even though they had just met, he downplays the role of the female lead in a sci-fi political dystopian film to ‘fresh-faced ingénue’; he calls a girl by a name that she did not consent to be called by (absence of a ‘no’ does not mean ‘yes’); and he literally mansplained his metaphor to a girl who should know that he is wrong, yet she doesn’t correct him for three possible reasons:
He’s older; he must be right.
He’s male; typically, he should be right (he’s certainly confident enough in his explanation).
He’s hot, so who cares if he’s wrong? It doesn’t matter that he constantly stares at me like I’m a slab of meat* and doesn’t know what metaphors are, right?
Considering that he’s written by a man, whether his being written as the archetypal heteronormative male is intentionally a good or bad thing is uncertain. What is certain is that he’s a walking example of the boys in the ‘defend yourself against rape’ pamphlets, ignorant of consent and his problematic behaviour towards girls, and only seems to possess one dimension.
I think he may well just pass for a Manic Pixie Dream Boy. Maybe.
(* Yes, this is true. Hazel points out herself that, if he wasn’t hot, his staring would be creepy and feel like assault, but because he’s hot, he gets away with it. I know there are a lot of people (mainly men) who believe that a women only tolerates or welcomes male attention in public in the situations where the man is ‘attractive’, just as there are people who strongly believe that it is only attractive women and women in revealing and coded-sexy clothing that get assaulted (therefore it is her fault, therefore any woman considered unattractive who gets assaulted should consider her assault ‘a compliment’). To be clear, all of that is incorrect: women find male attention in public intolerable and consider it assault regardless of the man’s appearance; harassment stems from the oppressor (the man) using his power against the oppressed (the woman) just because they feel entitled to the bodies of the oppressed – hence why gay men can and do harass women. It’s for the same reason that men harass and assault women regardless of her appearance.)
TFiOS Chapter 1 - Summary and Impressions So Far (Part 2/4)
Hazel:
Until this book was written, apparently, Green usually wrote from the point of view of male protagonists, and the sad fact is that this shows. Her personality seems to be formed by at least one or two one dimensional female character archetypes gleaned (probably) from TV Tropes – I say one or two, because I’m not sure even Green is certain which one Hazel aligns with the most. Even worse, he seems to have researched the female point of view from male-dominated media, which already has trouble with writing real girls and women. Which is a little terrifying, to think that his mainly female fan base is relating so much to these patriarchal ideas of girls. The by-blow here is that Hazel is very much based on what the author believes girls are simply like through his Blue Tinted Lens – hence her one dimension, her emotions (which we’re told are complex, but I can’t really grasp to be complex), her eccentric-but-conventional femininity and the fact she views herself through a lens of Insecurity and ‘Insufficiency’, which we see in the tail-end of Chapter 1 being waived away with a boy’s validation of her beauty, not her own. (Again, since this is written by a man, the result isn’t ‘I understand, girls grow up so insecure’, but ‘how irrational, girls get insecure for no reason and he should tell her she’s wrong, that she’s beautiful. See? All better.’)
Hazel herself, based on what we’re being told, reads like she’s supposed to be this depressed, intellectual teen who, partly informed by her suffering, has a martyr streak a mile wide. However, what we’re shown is that she’s something of the archetypal Hipster Babe, this ‘adult teen’ who will only read the one book that I’m already certain is more style than substance, who ‘dislikes authority’ (another way of saying that she rags on the adults in her life for no other reason than because they’re doing her a service (as in the doctors) or they’re Designated Targets (i.e. Patrick)), who takes the time to crush other people’s hope and happiness through sighs, sneers and book quotes, and willingly throws other cancer sufferers under the bus with all the enthusiasm of radical feminists doing the same to trans women. It might be that she thinks she’s a better cancer sufferer somehow, or maybe that she’s worried she isn’t.
Maybe it’s the result of her one-dimensional mold, but she strikes me as being entirely unlovable and unrelateable. She may be the Manic Pixie Dream Girl of the whole work. Possibly.
