Falling for the Freak - Eddie Munson Fix-It Fic - Chapter 20.5
Hello, I am a bit tipsy and high from Dodie’s new song. I’m legit tipsy - I’m not actually high. But here I am. I also just liked my ex’s new profile photo on Facebook after telling myself I would wait at least a day to do so. I don’t know why I do this to myself. (I promise I’m ok).
I hope you all enjoy this chapter! Or half of a chapter really. It’s kinda short given the circumstances listed above. I also need a little more time to formulate exactly how I am going to fix everything about the end of ST4.
CHAPTER SUMMARY: The gang heads into the Upside Down after coming up with what seems like an air tight plan. This is where the major fix-it aspects of this fic are going to happen so buckle up.
DISCLAIMERS/WARNINGS: Anything that came from ST4 belongs to the Duffle Bags. Angst, very intense situations involving violence and blood.
We had a plan. It was complicated and I was scared, but we had a plan. Steve, Robin, and Nancy would enter the Upside Down through the gate in Eddie’s appartment an head to Henry Creel’s house where Vecna would be waiting. Before they entered, Max, in Hawkins, would wait with Lucas in the attic of Henry Creel’s actual house and eventually bait Vecna into attacking her. If all went to plan, Steve, Nancy, and Robin would kill Vecna while he was in his trance in the Upside Down before he got the chance to hurt Max. The only question was what to do about the demon bats waiting for them in the Upside Down.
“We’ll distract them,” Dustin said.
“Eddie and I,” Dustin said.
I looked over at Eddie and felt fear clutch my heart. “No,” I said. “No, you’re not going in there again,”
“Babe,” Eddie said, “it’s the only way, Dustin can’t go by himself,”
“Then I’m going with you,” I said.
“No,” Eddie said, “Absolutely not,”
“I’m going with you,” I said. “I’m not losing you and I’m not going to be the only one who sits behind while you all save the world,”
“It wouldn’t hurt to have a third pair of hands,” Dustin admitted.
“No,” Eddie said. “What if something happens to you?”
“What if something happens to you?” I asked, standing up from my seat in the Winnebago. “Just because you aren’t scared about what could happen to you doesn’t mean that I’m not. I’m going with you. That’s the end of the conversation. We’re done,”
I walked to the front of the Winnebago and sat with Robin for a while. Steve drove us to a private hillside where we could get ready for our battle. As Eddie and I were stil a bit on edge with each other, I stayed with Robin and Steve, making molotov cocktails. The two of them discussed our plan as I watched Eddie and Dustin make lethal shields out of the lids of trash cans and nails. Nancy practiced her shot with Max while Lucas and Erica made spears.
“This is fucking crazy,” I said.
“This is crazy,” I said. “Look at us,”
“I know,” Steve said. “I felt the same way when I went into the Byers’ house three years ago and suddenly was swinging a baseball bat at a monster, but we’re going to make it through this,”
“I just don’t know how I got here,” I said.
My eyes fell back on Eddie and Dustin as they began to wrestle with each other. I couldn’t help the smile that began to crawl up my lips. “He’s really good with him,” Robin said.
“Oh my God can we not obsess over how amazing Eddie is for one minute,” Steve said, rolling his eyes.
“He is though,” Robin said. “He really loves that kid,”
“He really loves you,” Robin said, elbowing me softly. “That’s why he’s so scared about you going into the Upside Down,”
“He just doesn’t understand that he can’t control me,” I said. “He’s been like this this whole time,”
“Love makes you crazy,” Steve chimed in. “And, Robin is right. He is seriously crazy about you,”
“You should go talk to him,” Robin said. “We’ve got the cocktails handled here,”
I watched Eddie and Dustin for another minute and then set down my things. I walked over to them slowly. They were practicing battle moves, leaping over each other and rolling through the grass.
“Here approaches a noble woman!” Eddie cried when he saw me. “Will she be able to stand being in the presence of a banished man such as I? Only time will tell,”
I giggled. “She can stand it,” I said. “She may actually enjoy it,”
“She approves!” Eddie shouted and turned to Dustin. He held out his hand and shook Dustin’s. “Thank you young squire. You have helped me finish my quest of meeting the noble lady. You may continue on your travels now,”
“You’re welcome Eddie the Banished,” Dustin said, giving Eddie a slight bow. “I shall check in on Lucas the Brave and Lady Applejack to see if they’re seeking assistance,”
Dustin roamed over to Lucas and Erica, leaving me and Eddie alone. Eddie held on to a shield full of nails. He lifted it up so I could see. “Pretty badass right?”
“Yeah,” I said. “Can I have one?”
Eddie nodded. “I’m sorry,” he said, handing me a trash can lid with rusty nails sticking out of it.
“I’m sorry too,” I said. “I’m just scared for you,”
“And I’m scared for you,” Eddie said.
“We both have to help,” I said. “I’m not sitting out,”
“I know,” Eddie said. “I know. So we’ll have each other’s backs. You’ll come with me and Dustin. That way I can watch over you,”
“And I can watch over you,” I said.
“Sounds like we’ve reached an accord,” he said.
“Sounds like we have,” I smiled.
Eddie set down his shield and took mine to do the same with it. He then pulled me into a tight hug. I buried my face in his chest and breathed in his scent. I wrapped my arms around his waist and held on tight.
“I love you,” he said, pressing his face into my hair. “I love you so much,”
“I love you too,” I said.
Once we had our weapons prepared, we suited up in our battle gear. Eddie layered his leather jacket with an army vest. He tied his black skull bandana around his head, keeping his hair our of his face. Dustin was covered in a camoflage cloak that made him look like a seaweed monster. I pulled on an army jacket over my shirt and some leather fingerless gloves. After we were all dressed, Steve drove us as close to Forrest Hill as we could get without risking getting caught.
We unloaded our supplies and trekked to Eddie’s trailer. When we entered, the gate awaited us just as it was the night before. We poked at the edges of it until we could toss Dustin’s sheet rope into it. Just as it had before, the rope held tight in mid-air, strung between dimensions.
Steve went first, climbing the rope with no trouble. I watched as he flipped into the Upside Down and landed. Then Nancy went, followed by Robin. Eddie and I helped Dustin up and then Eddie helped me. Once Eddie was through, we ran through the plan one more time. They would head towards the Creel house and eventually signal Erica. After that they would wait for us to call off the bats. When the coast was clear, they would go in for the kill.
As we exited Eddie’s trailer in the Upside Down, Steve turned to us and said, “Don’t try to be heros you guys, just stick to the plan,”
“Don’t worry,” Eddie said exchanging glances with me and Dustin. “There’s no heros here,”
We watched as they walked away and then began to reinforce the trailer with plates of metal until we had created a cage to keep us safe from when the demobats came for us.
