About Sanji’s eyes...
If anyone need to know about this information, also because I remember that I haven’t made any posts about this, well, quite important about my most favourite character - About Sanji’s eyes.
Till now, the only canon thing I have ever seen Oda wrote about Sanji’s eyes in his sketch for a One Piece’s after 2 year design.
in this he mentioned about Zoro’s and Sanji’s different eyes shape and smirk shape, also face shape of Luffy, Zoro Sanji.
Focus on eyes, Oda confirmed that Zoro got double eyelid, and Sanji is single eyelid. Sanji got big round eyes too (which is more easy to see when he was a kid), but he rarely open wide full round.
Oda really keeps their eyes detail in shape.
till now, there’s no canon color for Sanji’s pupils in Manga, although according to Anime version, (many times) his eye is in Blue/Blue Navi.
for the latest WSJ cover I saw quite many people quickly set his eyes as brown/bronze as canon - or even red!? The little thing I want to say here, it’s too soon to say anything as canon until it is confirmed by author. Even the artwork can be not exactly in color since it was scanned and get through many times of clear/level effect by scanlation group. Also, as the pose + inking, painting effect, chosing light/shadow tone can affect the color of detail in artwork too. And it’s highly because of the red tone shading Oda using (for cape and fire scene) got the artwork turn into that way.
This pose when Sanji is on fire, can be considerated as this in movie Gold (the movie where Oda directs the art)
It’s more like blue navy become affected by fire light (orange) so it turned brighter grey.
Last thing, I didn’t make this post to get offense anyone. Every opinion about this is coming from your love to the character, since you put much attention in observing Sanji, and I personally adore and respect them all, they are all wonderful headcanon from fans. However, to say something is canon (in Manga/ by author) is a different story.
And I hope that this post will give you guys much more information, to know things more well or to discuss, for the love to Sanji.
