Summary: In which Hiccup hasn’t been happy on Berk in a long time, and now he finally has an easy way to leave, and a big reason to not want to stick around. With his newfound freedom, just what will Hiccup get up to in the coming years?

“—some say the Unholy Rider is a faceless being of both man and dragon! That the Rider is a Dreki Fylgja— Dragon Spirit! I’ve heard tale that—”
Hiccup should walk away. Hiccup knows very well he should absolutely walk away from where he hears Johann’s voice narrating the dramatic tale he’s heard about— well, about Hiccup.
Hiccup does not walk away. He pulls his hood up further and gets closer to the part of the Markets that Johann is at right now, keeping his head ducked down so hopefully Johann will not spot him. He wants to know what sort of rumors are going around about him as the Unholy Rider.
A crowd has gathered and Hiccup lets himself slip somewhere in the middle of it, blending in with all the other people listening to Johann’s embellished tale of the Dreki Fylgja who rains fire from the skies, freeing dragons so they can wreak havoc on the archipelago, only to disappear into the ashes that float in the wind and blacken out the sun.
Hiccup frowns slightly as he listens; that’s certainly a wild exaggeration of what he does. He slips away from the crowd as Johann begins to bring his tale to an end, not wanting to be seen by Johann when the crowd begins to thin out.
Chapter 3 progress: Okay I think I’m definitely gonna have to divide this chapter and I think I’ve got an idea of where a good break would be now cause this later half is looking to be longer and longer. So hopefully proper update within the next few days!
Roughly 3,700 words into the first chapter of and just hoping for a different refrain. My hope is to have the first chapter finished within a few more days, so we’ll see how it goes
A bit under 500 words into the first chapter of my different refrain fic! And definitely still more to go!! I have 14 planned scenes left to write before the chapter is complete
A little over 5k words and about 23 scenes into chapter 14 of this fic, maybe… 58ish more scenes to go, if I counted right? It’s less writing than it sounds like! Some of these scenes are really short ones; chapter 14 is somewhat of a time skip chapter, just a few moments from each month over the duration of like roughly 20 months lol
