My recent bout of movie book reads. 🚔🔫🚬 Dennis Lehane's Live By Night reads like a movie. The action is endless, with twists, turns, romances, car chases and just enough bloodshed to make an exhilarating read that brings you into the life of prohibition-era gangster. 🌊🌜👫 Ian McEwan's On Chesil Beach had an intriguing dichotomous narrative between two people on their wedding night. The contrast from one to the next and the interplay was crafted really well. An odd but thoughtful tale of the expectations of sex and relationships. 🍴🍸🚓 Herman Koch's The Dinner was a humorous dark read, a witty commentary on upper class with a twisted outplay of family secrets. 🌱📚✏ Daphne Du Maurier's My Cousin Rachel is some kind of masterpiece. I heard that it was the climax of her literary works but even so I have now got two of her other books on their way to me. My Cousin Rachel is an elegant, humorous, intelligent tale through the eyes of a naive man, sole heir to his cousin whose unravelling becomes evident when he meets Rachel. ⛄🔫💉 Jo Nesbo's The Snowman is a twisted journey which made me rather jumpy. Follows a detective through the harrowing task of tracking down a killer. Personal relationships and illnesses are just as messy as the murders.
