The term shedding is such a good way to describe someone growing into something bigger, better, even. It's so vivid a description. Like a snake's skin, you're getting rid of it entirely. It's gone. You're genuinely changed. And, in most cases, for the better.

you know, i don’t stay up all night anymore wishing you’d text me. and i don’t feel waves of disappointment and loneliness when i don’t hear from you, or when it seems like you have better friends, or i hear about you hanging out with other people late at night and early in the morning. good for you. the pedestal has... lowered. i still like talking to you. i think you’re one of the people i like being around the most. but. i guess i’ve finally seen reason and... i don’t need to cling to the idea of you anymore.
