i used to do a handwriting sample for all my characters

obv viktor is not 'mine' but i needed a signature for an upcoming chapter

I tried so!!! hard!!! to get it perfect but um i use a rollerbar mouse soooo yeah

here are my failed attempts

i really wanted it to be sharp, narrow, and have a sense of motion. it also needed to be assertive, as i saw Viktor's signature as his way of saying "this is me, my mind created this" in a way that holds some permanence, which i think is remarkably important to him given what happens with the credit he's given for the Hexgates (which is to say, none)

i had to piece together a couple of successful letters from my failed attempts (props if you see which ones and where they came from) but in the end i came up with this and am quite pleased with it

idk in what context anyone might want viktor's signature but if you find this suitable, please feel free to use! :) it would be cool if u credited back to this blog but if not 🤷 worse things have happened

(Neat, slanted font) This is Buzz's handwriting: neat and simple just how he likes most things in life. His autograph, of course, is iconic.

(Cursive) This is Mira's handwriting. She was trained to write almost exclusivly in cursive and it is almost impossibel for her to print. Universal-1 (Englis) is not her first languadge and she has problems with speling.

(Henscratch) This is Booster's handwriting. Handwriting does not get much emphasis in Joadian education. This is not the case, however, at Star Command. Booster's handwriting drives Commander Nebula crazy and has threatened to get his reports rejected for illegibility more than once.

(All Caps) This is XR's handwriting. XR is a robot and in theory he could write out or print a message in any font he wanted. He likes to write in all caps because it's more fun and it gets people's attention.

OKAY SO HI!

I decided to do something today! I made a list of Keith Kogane from Voltron's handwriting based on (semi-)canon examples. This was the process:

I looked at the Voltron Guidebooks and copied Keith's handwriting (seen below)

They're a little shaky, but oh well! Then I lined them all up into rows based on what letter they are (see below)

Then, I got extremely annoyed at how few letters we have of his handwriting (20 lowercase, 5 uppercase, NO NUMBERS?!?!?). I picked, what I believed to be, the best examples of each letter and put them together.

Next up was to fill in the blanks! If you haven't looked, here are what I was missing:

Lowercase:

c, j, q, v, x, and z

Uppercase:

A, B, C, D, F, G, J, L, M, O, P, Q, R, T, U, V, W, X, Y, and Z

Numbers:

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 0

(I also added ?) This was annoying! It was difficult to attempt to emulate Keith's handwriting in a way that was faithful to what I had already. I hope I did it swoopy justice! Next up was to put all of these characters on a line and to ensure that they were all (roughly) evenly sized!

Unfortunately I've hit the 10 picture limit so I'll have to add some more extra BTS pictures in a seperate post. This was a fun thing to do!

Character Titles and Handwriting: Naharé Mergrey

Whether they are aware of it or not, your characters might have a title that you use to refer to them without saying their name explicitly. It could be something as simple as their rank, their occupation, their place within their social hierarchy, or something symbolic to them and to you (the player) that you use as their tag. Add the meaning if you want! 

Powder Keg:

A nickname given to her by her husband because of her love for explosives and in general making things ‘go boom’. It may or may not reflect the kind of  unpredictable temperament she has on a near daily basis...

Cap’n Knees:

A play on words, she chose this herself. The first thing she likes to go for during battle is, of course, those knee caps. It’s a little hard to run when your legs have given out from under you. You can also see her using this technique during fighting tournaments with rubber bullets.

 Her Handwriting:

Naharé learned how to read first and write last. While her handwriting is legible, it leaves much room for improvement. If she ever signs her name, or writes in general, it’s in all caps and usually scrawled quickly.
