MLB Effect: Accele MP Gain Up [15%] & Blast Damage Up [30%] & Charged Attack Damage Up [10%]
Accele MP Gain Up will increase the amount of MP gained by using Accele discs.
Blast Damage Up is a straightforward buff that means Blast Discs will deal more damage. Blast Damage Up has a capped percentage at 100%.
Charged Attack Damage Up will cause the target to cause more damage from their Accele or Blast discs if used after a charge disc. You’ll want to use this memoria on the character who is using the charged attack, not the character(s) setting up the charge discs.
TLDR: “The Eve of Awakening” is okay for players who don’t have a lot of memoria, but it doesn’t excel through any of its effects and those effects have little synergy. For most players who have better memoria to use, this is Enhancement Fodder. This memoria is exclusive to logging in during the Magia Record Season Three Login Countdown.
Review: “The Eve of Awakening” isn’t that great to use because its effects don’t synergize particularly well with one another, but it’s fine to equip if you don’t have a lot of good memoria on hand. Each effect offered is lowered than what you can get from other memoria in the game, and it’s unlikely that you’ll be using more than one effect at a time when utilizing this memoria-- but as a freebie, it’s not the worst thing in the world and it might be something you use to fill in the gaps of missing memoria when equipping a large team. It’s also possible that this memoria can be useful on a few select supports.
Let’s first explain why the effects here don’t work well together, then let’s compare “The Eve of Awakening” with other memoria in the game.
The only two effects that have synergy here are Charged Attack Damage Up and Blast Damage Up. This would assume that you are using a Charge team, with a goal of using charged up attacks to unleash powerful Blast attacks. With that in mind it’s... fine. There are better memoria in the game to equip, but it can work if you don’t have much on hand. Note that this strategy would assume that the character equipped with “The Eve of Awakening” is the one spending the charge discs onto a powerful Blast attack, so make sure that character also has a good passive as well.
Outside of that, it doesn’t work. If you’re using the Accele MP Gain Up, then the Blast Damage Up is useless and so is the Charged Attack Damage Up. A simple Blast team isn’t going to care about Charged Attack Damage Up or Accele MP Gain Up. A Charge team probably isn’t going to care about the Accele MP Gain Up-- I say probably, because with Charge Conservation, it’s possible one might use the constant Charged up attacks to keep a unit at 150MP or more with a single Accele disc... But it’s debatable if this is still the right memoria for it.
Even an average attack (A > C > B) doesn’t benefit from this memoria anymore than it would from a more straightforward offensive memoria. You’ll gain a little extra MP, and a slightly damage boosted Blast by using “The Eve of Awakening” and that’s all. There are plenty of memoria in the game that are better generic offensive memoria to equip, even if you limit it to just free welfare memoria, such as:
(Limited 4*) “All the Best Wishes” Attack Up [20%] & Regenerate HP [5%]
(Limited 4*) “The Chance Encounter of Roche Castle” Attack Up [15%] & Regenerate HP [4%]
(Limited 4*) “The Sun Does Not Shine on the Land so the Heart Is Shaded” Attack Up [15%] & Defense Up [22.5%]
(Limited 4*) “Mourn For I Know the Pain” Attack Up [15%] & Regenerate HP [4%]
(Limited 4*) “Flowers, Fallen, Never to Return” Attack Up [15%] & Damage Cut [10%]
(Limited 4*) “A Reasonable and Gentle Strategy” Attack Up [15%] & Charge Disc Damage Up [20%]
(Limited 4*) “Walking an Entwined Path” Damage Increase [30%] & Regenerate HP [5%]
(Limited 4*) “Do Your Best, Little Savior” Damage Increase [15%] & MP Up When Attacked By Weak Element [7 MP]
(Limited 4*) “Visit of the Masked Student Council!” Damage Increase [15%] & Anti-Curse [100%]
(Limited 4*) “Hunting Magical Girls Is For Justice” Damage Up [15%] & Damage Cut [15%]
(Limited 4*) “I Just Said I Like Feet” Damage Up [15%] & Chase [14%]
If you’re an NA Refugee, you should have all of these. All of them are going to be better choices to use for generic offensive passive memoria.
If you’re more interested in the individual effects themselves over possible combinations, then let’s go ahead and compare “The Eve of Awakening” with other memoria in the game, starting with its effect Accele MP Gain Up.
(Limited 4*) “Waiting for the Moment” Accele MP Gain Up [20%] & Damage Increase [20%]
(Limited 4*) “Always Thinking of You” Accele MP Gain Up [20%] & Burn on Attack [30%] (2 Turns)
(Limited 4*) “You Can Wear Any Outfit You Want” Accele MP Gain Up [17.5%] & Defense Up [30%] & MP Gain Up [10%]
(Limited 4*) “Goodbye Fable” Accele MP Gain Up [17.5%] & Magia Damage Up [15%]
(4*) “Because the World Is Full of Wishes” Accele MP Gain Up [17.5%] & Status Ailment Resistance Up [30%]
(Limited 3*) “Never Allow Will to Be Erased” Accele MP Gain Up [17.5%] & Attack Up [15%]
(Limited 3*) “Something to Remember” Accele MP Gain Up [17.5%] & Attack Up [15%]
(3*) “Coordinated Combination” Accele MP Gain Up [17.5%]
(3*) “Keep This a Secret From Everyone!” Accele MP Gain Up [17.5%]
(Limited 4*) “The Eve of Awakening” Accele MP Gain Up [15%] & Charged Attack Damage Up [10%] & Blast Damage Up [30%]
(4*) “Deep in Thought” Accele MP Gain Up [15%] & Damage Up [15%] & MP Gain Up [10%]
(4*) “Being Wrapped In Self-Reproach” Accele MP Gain Up [15%] & Anti-Skill Seal [100%]
(3*) “My Things!” Accele MP Gain Up [15%] & Anti-Curse [100%]
(2*) “Different Story: Rookies” Accele MP Gain Up [15%]
The 15% Accele MP Gain Up offered by “The Eve of Awakening” is equivalent to the unlimited two-star memoria “Different Story: Rookies,” which says it all really. That being said, it’s still better than the two-star memoria due to its passive ATK stats. However, even unlimited three-star memoria in the game can give more Accele MP Gain Up than what “The Eve of Awakening” can offer, and if you’re a free-to-play NA Refugee, you’re much better off using either “Always Thinking of You” or “Goodbye Fable” instead.
Next, let’s examine Blast Damage Up.
(Limited 4*) “I Just Wanted to Survive” Blast Damage Up [45%] & Damage Cut [20%]
(Limited 4*) “The Usual Special Seat” Blast Damage Up [40%] & Anti-Evade [100%]
(Limited 4*) “An Entrance Backed by a Column of Clouds!” Blast Damage Up [35%] & Anti-Burn [100%]
(4*) “Super Soft Familiar” Blast Damage Up [35%] & Magia Damage Up [12.5]
(4*) “The Archive Is a Friend” Blast Damage Up [35%] & Blast Damage Cut [15%]
(4*) “Towards the Light!” Blast Damage Up [35%]
(Limited 4*) “She has a Heart” Blast Damage Up [35%] & Attack Up While At Max Health [30%] & Regenerate HP [4%]
(Limited 4*) “The Eve of Awakening” Blast Damage Up [30%] & Accele MP Gain Up [15%] & Charged Attack Damage Up [10%]
(Limited 4*) “I'll Continue to Shoulder the Burden” Blast Damage Up [30%] & Damage Increase [25%]
(Limited 4*) “Food Stall Paradise” Blast Damage Up [30%] & Accele MP Gain Up [15%] & Anti-Bind [100%]
(Limited 4*) “Now, We Treasure Hunt!” Blast Damage Up [30%] & Accele MP Gain Up [15%] & Anti-Charm [100%]
(Limited 4*) “Loading a Shining Pennon with Hope” Blast Damage Up [30%] & Accele MP Gain Up [17.5%]
(Limited 4*) “Never Forget” Blast Damage Up [30%] Blast Damage Cut [10%]
(Limited 3*) “The Pseudo-Family Is From Peace” Blast Damage Up [30%] & Anti-Dazzle [100%]
(3*) “Surrounded by White Wings” Blast Damage Up [30%]
The Blast Damage Up offered by “The Eve of Awakening” is way more compelling than it’s other two effects at least. It’s equivalent to the three-star unlimited memoria “Surrounded by White Wings” at 30%, but of course “The Eve of Awakening” is going to have better ATK stats. There are several unlimited four-star memoria in the game that give more Blast Damage Up, but this is only when they are max-awakened. If they aren’t, they give 30% Blast Damage Up, just like “The Eve of Awakening” does.
However, the issue here is that unlike Accele MP Gain Up, you don’t need that many Blast Damage Up memoria. This is because you can feasibly want several characters to gain more MP on a team for Magia strategies, while a good blast team is really just one character (or two, if you have to use a Support). This is because Blasts are all about pure damage, and you do the most damage possible in a puella combo-- adding more units in the mix also means losing the chance to have solo discs. Additionally, this makes it harder to use Blast combos. Even just using two characters (unless they are both Ashley Taylor) can mean you might only get two blast discs a turn.
Couple this with how easy it is to hit the 100% percentage cap for Blast Damage Up, and overall you don’t need to have that many Blast Damage Up passive memoria. That doesn’t mean you should start deleting most of them-- you never know what kind of strange and wacky strategies you might need in the future-- but it does mean you aren’t going to want to have a large quantity of them like you would for Accele MP Gain Up or MP Gain Up.
This brings us back to our list. The best free welfare memoria in here is “An Entrance Backed by a Column of Clouds!” which gives 35% Blast Damage Up. The two best memoria in here are “I'll Continue to Shoulder the Burden” which gives 30% Blast Damage Up and 25% Damage Increase and “She has a Heart” which has 35% Blast Damage Up and 30% Attack Up at Max Health, which are both incredible powerhouses.
“The Eve of Awakening” is not nearly as good as any of those. In addition, it’s not going to be good as a max-awakened unlimited four-star memoria either. Lastly, the event reward “Never Forget” is also going to be a better choice-- while it has a defensive effect to go alongside its similar 30% Blast Damage Up, it also has much better ATK stats than “The Eve of Awakening” does.
So overall? “The Eve of Awakening” is good for Blast Damage Up only if you don’t have anything better to use.
Lastly, let’s tackle the Charged Attack Damage Up.
(Limited 4*) “The Small Chocolatier” Charged Attack Damage Up [15%] & Blast Damage Up [25%] & Status Ailment Resistance Up [30%]
(Limited 4*) “Warm Christmas” Charged Attack Damage Up [15%] Blast Damage Up [25%]
(Limited 4*) “The Third Magical Girl” Charged Attack Damage Up [15%] & Accele MP Gain Up [20%]
(4*) “A Meddlesome Timing” Charged Attack Damage Up [15%] & Ignore Damage Cut [60%]
(4*) “To Grace with Aster” Charged Attack Damage Up [15%] & Attack Up [25%]
(Limited 4*) “Ultimate VS Supreme” Charged Attack Damage Up [12.5%] & Blast Damage Up [20%] & Damage Up [20%]
(4*) “Starlight Power!” Charged Attack Damage Up [12.5%] & Critical Hit [25%]
(3*) “First Meeting Combination!” Charged Attack Damage Up [12.5%]
(Limited 4*) “The Eve of Awakening” Charged Attack Damage Up [10%] & Blast Damage Up [30%] & Accele MP Gain Up [15%]
(Limited 4*) “Uprising Doubles Division” Charged Attack Damage Up [10%] & Attack Up [15%] & Critical Hit [30%]
(3*) “Playing a False Me” Charged Attack Damage Up [10%] & Blast Damage Up [20%]
Continuing the trends from earlier, “The Eve of Awakening” has less Charged Attack Damage Up than the unlimited three-star “First Meeting Combination” does. However, it probably is still a better choice to equip thanks to its passive ATK stats. Another advantage that the memoria has would be that its the easiest option here for free-to-play players to grab-- everything else is either limited or a four-star memoria that might be difficult to max awaken.
The best memoria to use here would be between “To Grace with Aster” and “Ultimate VS Supreme” for Charge teams. To be honest, even a single copy of one of these is still much better to equip than “The Eve of Awakening” ever could be-- and unless you’re using Charge Conservation on every disc attack for that character, you might be better off forgoing using a passive Charged Attack Damage Up memoria and instead using an active one. Some good options would be:
(Limited 4*) “Small Light in the Corner of Town” Charged Attack Damage Up [22.5%] & Attack Up [50%] (Self / 1 turn)
(Limited 4*) “A New Start for the Clan” Charged Attack Damage Up [20%] & Blast Damage Up [30%] (Self / 1 turn)
(Limited 3*) “Descent of a Saint” Charged Attack Damage Up [20%] & Attack Up [40%] (Self / 1 Turn)
(2*) “Different Story: Mami and Kyoko” Charged Attack Damage Up [17.5%] (Self / 1 Turn)
(Limited 4*) “Admiration of Many Colors” Charged Attack Damage Up [15%] & Blast Damage Up [30%] (Self / 3 turns)
(Limited 4*) “Handmade Ultimate Dress” Charged Attack Damage Up [12.5%] & Attack Up [20%] (Self / 3 Turns)
Other good options would include active Blast Damage Up memoria and active Attack Up/Damage Up/Damage Increase memoria.
Hopefully this review has examined why “The Eve of Awakening” is lacking as a memoria. It’s okay to use if you don’t have a lot of memoria available, but it’s spread out too thin to be useful at any one thing, and even as a generic memoria it falls short when it comes to offensive potential.
The one thing that “The Eve of Awakening” might be good for is Support. On a character with two Accele discs and two Blast discs, this memoria lets a mutual decide if they want to use a Support for either a blast team or for a magia one.
But overall, this is Enhancement Fodder.
