Or a finding an ethereal cyber ghost who puts all your experience as a detective to the test against an opponent with unnatural intelligence, always plotting and scheming for abstract goals and leaving you to deduce and ultimately thwart them. And yet seemingly welcomes your rivalry like it's some silly game. You'd start to grow attached as well.
