I've always loved to swim, since I was a kid, but at 5 I started feeling a bit of anxiety, then fear, then I quit. At 12 I convinced my parents to let me go again, but after few months I had to quit. Again. I just kept watching competitions on tv recording them, writing down all the results, keeping newspaper clippings, and then, 17 years ago, when I was 17, I was waiting for Popov to race his 50 and 100 free but someone else took the scene, this young American boy that came out of nothing, won the gold and became obviously my teenage crush 😅 In the meantime my hero had retired and my curly crush disappeared. Only swimmers-gossip-stars were left and I couldn't feel excited for anybody else like them so I just kept loving the concept of swimming, then that name appeared again. With such a great story. Someone who left at the top of his career to come back after ages and be great again. I wasn't the only crazy quitter after all, and he wasn't the only one to come back after crisis, depression, experiences and life teachings. I changed country, I changed life, I went through so many things that made me weaker and stronger at the same time, I made big choices, some of them terrible, some of them that probably saved my life. And then AFTER 22 YEARS I am swimming AGAIN!! I'll surely never be a swimming hero and I am not even sure if or when I'll quit again, but in the meantime I'll just try to take the best of it. I read this book as it was my Holy Bible; symbol for me of that peace of mind I'm so much looking for. Thank you @anthonyervin for sharing your life and for keeping that sweet look in your eyes, you seem to have maintained that kindness that we all need to keep living (and keep swimming 🐟). I took this photo yesterday (6/26/17). A friend of mine and I hiked up the very technical and steep 5 mile trail to view this beautiful waterfall. This is Fall Creek Falls located in the Jones Gap State Park here in beautiful South Carolina. By far one of the hardest hikes I have done in a long time, but well worth the challenge as you can see. The light was not exactly great in fact it was really bright out. I used a polarizer, with 2 Grad ND filters. I shot this on my Nikon D7100 11-16mm f14 1sec exposer.

Had a great time meeting @anthonyervin and his Co author #constantinemarkides. I've always been intrigued by Ervin and his rise and fall and rise again in Swimming. Learning more about his journey and his interests outside the pool made me like him more. Was awesome to hear him speak about his experiences and to finally meet him.
