Theory
Alright, this is just a theory, but it’s a good one.
So today at work over the in store radio, Look What You Made Me Do came on and normally, I would just ignore it/sing along a bit, but today, something clicked and it got me thinking about something.
With the Lover Era, @taylorswift has been dropping easter eggs here and there, making her fans find out things about her album. I just checked and it seems that no one picked up on this one.
During the lead up to Lover, Taylor put out a playlist on spotify called Love, Taylor and on it she was posting snippets of songs lyrics of songs off her new album. She also had a few really good tracks, like I Love You Always Forever by Donna Lewis, which for those who where born in the late 90s to early 2000s is a really good mid 90s pop song, on it that made me want to clone the list, but I never got around to it.
So anyway, as I heard Taylor at work, I realize that the Phil Collins song that she covered, Can’t Stop Loving You, was on said playlist. I can’t believe that I didn’t put two and two together and realize that this was another little Easter Egg for the fans.
So my theory is that the playlist that she created was a test to see how the fans reacted to said songs that were on the list and eventually, she’s going to cover some of the songs on the list because they fit in with the sound that is on her new album.
I know that it’s a little farfetched, but at least I picked up on something that was in plain sight.
