It's fun looking at my books side by side because I can see the contrast between my protagonists, their skills, and the books' genre.
The Gunslinger (ABYSS) and the Warlock (TTFOD) are classic dark fantasy MCs. They're skilled in combat, clever, and stubborn enough to survive. Sure they encounter eldritch monsters, but they *can* point a gun or a blade at them and even wound The Horrors.
The Time-Traveler (GOR) makes the genre veer into science-fantasy because of his time-travel device and his relationship to his magic. On paper, he's extremely powerful, but he also has 0 combat experience and deals with things 'out of this world', so even if he had a gun, it wouldn't help.
The Detective (CHD) is not even a real detective. No magic, no weapons, no divine intervention. This book is horror first, speculative second. Good luck, detective :)

I love striking the fear of god in my family's friends when they see me reading the Silmarillion, finish it, and then come back with House of Leaves.
This is the energy I'm taking into 2024.
I'm going to get worse more unknowable on purpose.
I'm making a terrible list of inspiration for my most unhinged project yet.
House of Leaves (multi-POV, multi-language, weird formatting), Doki Doki Literature Club (fourth-wall breaking), Coraline (the little door, the other world), Over The Garden Wall (the Unknown, the absurd), Dark Souls (Artorias, Aldia), Bloodborne (Micolash, Laurence, and the Insight system), Silent Hill (visuals), Backrooms, and Narnia.

(But once I finish the pre-production of my short film and can concentrate on technical stuff, boy oh boy, CHD will flood my brain in full force. Can't wait for readers to meet Detective and the weird little town he's trapped in.)
I also figured out that the vibes are a mix of Silent Hill and Over the Garden Wall. And I'm building my playlist accordingly.
