chefkuna won't take shit directed at his staff
"are you deaf? we've been trying to get your attention for the last 10 minutes." the blonde man scoffed in your face when you went over to their table.
"im sorry, sir. i was just settling another table's bill." you manage an apologetic smile, but you can feel the headache forming right above your left eyebrow. "what can i get for you today?"
he raised his eyebrow, "no name no greeting? thought this was a fancy place."
"leave it be, she's clearly not very good at her job." the lady across from him spoke, her lips curled up in an ugly sneer. she didnt even spare a glance in your direction as she pushed the menu towards you. "i'll take the smoked fish and albas caviar."
the blonde man nodded along, "i'll have the wagyu steak. hurry."
"excellent choices." you attempted to smile at them, trying your best to be jovial. "anything else i can get? drinks? wine?"
the lady sighed like you were slow, "did we order any wine?"
"..no." you blinked
"so just get us our goddamn food." she finished, waving you off like she couldn't stand your presence anymore.
you pursed your lips, fidgeting with the pen in your hand to calm yourself down. "alright. i'll be right back with your food."
you were stiff when you walked back to ring their food in, trying your hardest to not push the expensive art deco off it's shelf and let it go crashing and clattering across the floor. the soft ambient music suddenly became irritating, the sound of forks against plates suddenly too loud and ringing. you decided to take a moment to unwind in the back.
not that it was any better.
"are you a fucking idiot? get the fuck off my station!" sukuna yelled at a new commis, the veins in his neck bulging and his hands waving around almost dangerously. the outline of his massive muscles clear as day underneath his white uniform, the way they flexed and tightened the fabric. he was basically frothing at the mouth with how angry he was. no one was fazed, this was natural for the big, pink-haired head chef; especially during busy hours.
"did your mom drop you as a fucking child?" he huffed, shoving the poor, wide eyed commis away so he could look at the food. "this is all wrong! I need 2 lobsters on the fly, NOW!
somehow, you couldn't help but smile at his overwhelming presence in the kitchen. how smoothly he moved around the place, almost like he was performing a dance. you focused on his hands, the chopping, the stirring, the way one pinky dipped into a sauce in a pan and was then brought to his mouth to taste. his pink tongue peeking out ever so slightly as he hummed in pleasure. "good but needs more acid."
then, he turned to find you staring at him.
"what the fuck are you doing here?" he said, tone still loud but not as harsh anymore.
"what?" you shrugged, "just needed a break."
he rolled his eyes, but not before you noticed the way his gaze dropped to your shoulders and then your chest, down to your thighs before they came back up. were you hallucinating how they paused at your lips tho?
"well, you can't afford one right now, cupcake." he grunted, his voice all raspy from shouting all day long. with two fingers, he pushed 4 plates to the edge of the counter. "go run these."
just then, your co-worker walked in muttering something about rude people under his breath.
immediately you pipped up, "choso will run them, wont you choso?"
the black haired boy looked up, his eyes dark and tired. "yeah, yeah. sure. you okay about table 7? what a pair of assholes!"
sukuna raised an eyebrow at that, all kitchen duties abandoned. "what assholes?"
"this couple at table 7 were unnecessarily rude. i overhead them." choso explained, "they told her she was bad at her job and gave her attitude when she asked if they wanted something to drink.."
he kept looking at you the entire time choso explained, like he couldn't believe something like that had actually happened. just then, one of the chefs placed 2 plates on the table
"fish and wagyu for table 7!"
"right." sukuna said, expression eerily calm as he reached for the plates, "i'll take these to them."
"what? you don't have to do that, chef. i swear, i deal with people like this all the time-" you try to defuse the situation, rushing to follow him as he kicked the kitchen door open with a foot and walked out with the two plates in hand.
"well, you shouldn't have to." he grumbled, marching over to table 7 and all but throwing their plates down infront of them.
you froze in your place, unable to do anything but stare along with half a dozen other people sitting across the restaurant as sukuna stood, tall and brooding with both hands rested on the edge of the table.
he was grinning.
"here's your food, sir and ma'am. i just have a little question." he stated, staring at the dumbfounded expressions of the blonde man and his date.
he cleared his throat, "uh, yeah?"
"oh, im ryomen by the way. y'all seem to have quite a problem if someone doesn't introduce themselves to you." he chuckled, though it lacked humour. "would you like something to drink?"
"n-no." the blonde man mumbled, backing away ever so slightly as sukuna leaned towards him.
"louder for me, please?" sukuna said, placing a hand near his ear to gesture that he was trying to hear better.
"no, thank you. we're okay without a drink." the man repeated.
"ah." sukuna finally leaned back, crossing his arms across his chest, "so easy, wasn't it? how come you couldn't say it that same way to my staff over here?"
the couple turned to glance at you, and you simply looked at the ground, fighting back a smile by chewing on your bottom lip.
"uh.." the man turned back to sukuna, dumbly, "sorry?"
"too late, prick." sukuna finally growled, "you can either start being more respectful or you can get the hell out of my restaurant."
and with that, he turned around and marched back to the kitchen. but not before grabbing your wrist and dragging you along with him.
