Shermykins has had a little bug but he seems to be getting over it. Since starting his new steroid eye gel this last week for his cherry eye it has already made a wonderful difference! 💐 He and Winnie are a two pack! They go everywhere together! 🐶🌸🐶 #shermanfanclub #seniorchihuahuas #cherryeye #feelingbetter #tinybutmighty #twopeasinapod #chihuahualife #whisperingwillowsseniordogsanctuary #whereloveiswhisperedtothelastbreath (at Whispering Willows Senior Dog Sanctuary, Inc.) https://www.instagram.com/p/BwVt3IJJBs0/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1nrzqja3z2fi8
Shermykins was supposed to have eye 👀 surgery today. He has a cherry eye, which is when the gland prolapses and protrudes from the eye as a red fleshy mass. Normally surgery would be done to correct it and that was the plan until Dr. A did a little more research and decided he would probably not recover well from the surgery. It can cause some extreme swelling during recovery and due to his age and very small size it wasn't a good choice at this moment. It was bothering him but he has been on antbiotic eyedrops and doesn't seem to be phased now. We are going to try a special ointment in his eyes to keep him healthy and soothed for as long as we can. Then if we have to do surgery we will move forward as needed. He did get his Spring shots and glands expressed which he was not too thrilled but that was better than having surgery! We will update if there are further changes. 🐶💜💙 Please donate to his medical at Paypal.me/whisperingwillowssds #sherman #teacupchihuahua #tinybutmighty #cherryeye #seniordogs #surgerypostponed #rescuedandloved #whisperingwillowsseniordogsanctuary #whereloveiswhisperedtothelastbreath (at Whispering Willows Senior Dog Sanctuary, Inc.) https://www.instagram.com/p/BwBV1pYBk02/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1o1skbwx74899
Here’s Nacho, a 9 month old Boston terrier puppy 🐶 with prolapsed glands of the third eyelid (aka Cherry-eye). The top photo is before surgery the lower photo is immediately after recovery from anesthesia from surgery. Cherry-eye is a condition typically seen in young dogs and cats. The condition likely has a heritable component as it is commonly seen in brachycephalic breeds of dogs and cats, and in giant breeds of dogs, and in spaniels. Importantly, however, any breed or mixed breeds can be affected. Without treatment patients with cherry-eye are predisposed to developing dry eye (is kcs) and chronic ocular irritation. Should Cherry-eye occur in a breed that is difficult to correct or if cherry-eye is recurring despite surgical therapy, we recommend referral to a veterinary ophthalmologist. Such a referral will permit identification of concurrent ocular conditions (eg third eyelid cartilage anomalies etc) that make surgical correction challenging. Referral will also permit a thorough discussion regarding treatment options sand prognoses. A veterinary ophthalmologist is has surgical expertise to deal with difficult or complicated cases of cherry-eye. To arrange an appointment either contact CullenWebb directly or request referral from your family veterinarian. www.cullenwebb.com #cherryeye #animaleyedoctor #veterinaryophthalmologist #thirdeyelid #nachoiscute #nachorocks https://www.instagram.com/p/BtCBxZyB_N5/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1rjxhwyqobxu
Here is a young Great Dane patient seen at CullenWebb. This patient had a prolapsed gland of the third eyelid involving the right eye. From a distance it appeared that this was the only problem. Upon closer inspection, however, it was obvious that the cartilage of the third eyelid was malformed and “rolled” in appearance. "Cherry eye" is the term used to describe a prolapsed gland of the third eyelid. This condition, most commonly, is likely heritable in nature and is more commonly seen in breeds with droopy eyelids (eg spaniel breeds, Bulldogs, Great Danes, Mastiffs). In some instances cherry eye can result from a traumatic event. Regardless of the cause, without corrective surgery, patients with cherry eye will suffer from longstanding ocular irritation and possible impaired tear production leading to corneal disease including corneal ulceration. Although family veterinarians may perform cherry-eye repair, CullenWebb recommends that patients with atypical cherry-eye (as seen in the present patient) or recurring cherry-eye, despite previous surgical intervention, be seen by a veterinary ophthalmologist. ADOPT THIS PRECIOUS BABY BOY!
This gorgeous gorgeous pure bred from royalty cocker spaniel came to us by a family that was taking him to the shelter to kill. IT was their daughter's dog and she left it with the family, and dad was angry. Yes Charlie will howl, if you lock him up, I howl too. He has not howled here at all. But we don't lock him up.
Sick yes, severely sick: Vet asked lady why did you buy him as a purebred and not take care of him. He is only three years, and he has suffered with cherry eye for two of those precious years. He nearly lost his eyesight. His mouth also was swollen with a lip issue that goes along with this breed; vet had to remove a couple inches of infected tissue in his sore mouth. My heart breaks for him.
We fixed him, he now has all his shots, he is chipped, and he is healthy, recovering from his surgeries but doing excellent, and has a heart of gold.
He loves everyone, dogs, and people, and kids. I love him. Yesterday he slept all day. He knows he is safe, and my heart cried with joy to know he understands deeply he can sleep all he wants, he is safe, can now eat food in his mouth with no more pain, and well, he's having fun, thats what we want for him from YOU!.
Please consider adopting him and making him the most special little dog on the planet. Phone now or text 909-208-6889. And lets talk Sunday morning.
Charlie says, "I LOVE YOU ALL FOR SAVING ME!"
