Here are photographs of an adult cat patient seen at CullenWebb. This cat has inflammation of the eye (uveitis). This patient presented with a relatively sudden onset change in colour of the right iris. The uveitis present in this patient is characterized by a change in colour of the iris, change in shape and size of the pupil, keratic precipitates, thickening of the iris, increased vascularity of the iris, and obvious lymphoid follicles of the iris. Recommendations for systemic work-up looking for evidence of systemic disease were recommended as various infections or cancers can cause uveitis in cats. Symptomatic topical ocular therapy was commenced while awaiting results of this patient’s diagnostic work-up. CullenWebb recommends that all patients with changes to the appearance of the iris, regardless of species, be examined by a board-certified veterinary ophthalmologist.
