Cheryl Johnson & Ann Romeo 1969 por Louis Galanos Por Flickr: Back in 1969 promo girls Cheryl Johnson and Ann Romeo were Union 76 Race Stoppers who graced many motorsports events. Needless to say they were more than welcome by race fans. The creation of the Race Stoppers was a marketing campaign of Pure Oil that started in 1969 after Linda Vaughn (Miss Firebird) went to work for Hurst and became Miss Hurst Golden Shifter. At many events there were up to four Race Stoppers promoting Pure Oil oil products. The company went with four young ladies in miniskirts and white leather boots because toward the end of her time with Pure, Linda Vaughn had become so popular that she began to eclipse the oil company she worked for.
