You should never underestimate foot soldiers. True, regular pawns may seems round, cute and unthreatening but can pack quite a punch, reflecting the importance of common soldiery to warfare.

If you are skeptical - why not try playing a round of chess without pawns and see how it goes. But even in regular games, pawns can be a force to be reckoned with. My girlfriend once managed to turn two of them into queens and completely steamroll me.

Therefore, one should never underestimate the importance of the backbone of the chess army and the infinite potential a single pawn may hold.
