"Chan?" Y/N rolled over in bed and groaned as she felt a sense of nausea rising up inside of her. It was early morning, the sun on the cusp of rising and casting a lavender haze upon the earth. She laid a hand on her husband's shoulder, gently shaking him awake as she grimaced at the pain in her lower abdomen. "Baby?"
Chan' sleepy voice came out in a low tone when he responded. "Hmm? Mm … what time is it?"
"Six," Y/N whispered, kissing his cheek softly. "Sorry for waking you."
"It's okay," Chan mumbled, returning her kiss. "What's the matter, baby girl?"
Y/N groaned as a particularly strong cramp seemed to slap her uterus. "Can you do me a favour, darling?"
Chan inhaled deeply before stretching his arms out; he reached for his wife and hugged her tightly, burying his face into the crook of her neck.
"What favour?"
"Can you get me a heat pack?" Y/N asked him quietly as she gently patted his curls. "I think I've started my period … my cramps feel … horrible."
Opening his eyes finally, Chan smiled at her. He kissed her on the nose before immediately slipping out of the bed. "Do you need anything else? Painkillers? Some tea?"
Y/N smiled and shook her head against the pillow. "Just you."
Chan chuckled and blew a sleepy kiss at her before shuffling out of the bedroom; Y/N smiled after him, suddenly extremely choked up at the thought that she had married such a kind man. She knew there were many men out there who refused their wife's requests and rolled over, resuming sleep. But not Chan. He would move heaven and earth for his wife, if she had asked him to. And for that, Y/N felt very, very lucky.
Y/N was startled when she felt a ticking at the underside of her jaw; she ran a hand along her skin, bewildered when her fingers came away wet with tears.
She blinked slowly. Her hormones were definitely making her overly emotional.
Sniffing, Y/N slid out of bed and headed towards their bathroom. Her stomach seemed to grunt at her as she walked, the pain dull and uncomfortable with every step, and when she sat on the toilet, she groaned, folding in on herself.
She was expecting to find her underwear stained; but it was completely clean and she frowned. It wasn't that unusual for her, her period often showed up days after her cramps - she placed a thin sanitary towel onto the fabric just in case, and she sighed as she began to rinse her hands under the water.
Trudging out of the bathroom, instead of heading back to her bed, Y/N decided to pop her head into her son's bedroom; Noah was fast asleep, the four year old's hand curled over the edge of his duvet. His dark lashes kissed his freckled cheeks like a dusting of cocoa, and Y/N smiled. She was unable to hold herself back as a sudden wave of affection for the little boy washed over her. She padded into the room and gently brushed a kiss onto his cheek.
Noah stirred, his eyebrows creasing as he blinked groggily. He looked so much like his father in that moment that Y/N's eyes watered; she smiled brightly at him as he looked up at her, his face crinkling into a pretty smile of his own.
"Mama … " Noah reached his arms out towards his mother as his eyes fell closed again.
Chuckling under her breath, Y/N wrapped her arms around him tenderly. She kissed his forehead as he hugged her back, his skin warm from the flush of sleep against her touch.
"Go back to sleep, baby," Y/N murmured, dropping another kiss to the tip of his nose. He giggled and she tucked him back up into bed, pulling his duvet over his shoulders. "Daddy or I will wake you up later, okay?"
Already half asleep again, Noah nodded. Kissing him one more time, Y/N smoothed her hand over his blanket before leaving the room again. By the time she returned to her own bedroom, her husband was already there; Chan was bent over her side of the bed as he tucked two heat packs under the duvet, his hands quickly fluffing up her pillow.
"There you are," Chan smiled as he stood up again. "I was wondering if the toilet had swallowed you up."
Y/N snorted with quiet laughter at his typical humour. "I went to check on Noey."
Chan slid his arm around his wife. He kissed her temple before pulling back the corner of the duvet for her. He waited until she was comfortable before he tucked her in carefully, a tender smile growing over his face. He leaned down and kissed her forehead, and Y/N started to giggle, suddenly feeling very tiny.
"I just tucked Noey in exactly like this," Y/N grinned, turning her head to watch her husband get into his side of the bed. Chan chuckled when he flapped the duvet over himself before sliding his arms around his wife's waist. He pulled her towards him, her back hitting his torso.
"Well, what goes around, comes around, aye?" Chan chuckled against the top of Y/N's head. He let go of her for a moment to reach around her waist, retrieving one of the heat packs which he wrapped around the woman's stomach.
"You okay?" Chan asked as he began to rub gentle circles over her skin. "I brought you some painkillers just in case. They're on your side."
"Thanks baby," Y/N hummed with a smile. "I'm okay though. The heat is helping."
His lips pressed gentle kisses against the back of her neck. "Are you sure? Is there anything else I can do, baby?"
Y/N smiled. "Hug me a bit harder?"
"Done," Chan laughed, and slid his hand under her legs before pulling her into him. He threw his leg over hers and locked her into his body before he tightened his arms around her. "Better?"
Nuzzling against him in delight at the closeness of her husband, Y/N nodded. "Better."
"Good. Try and get some more sleep, baby," Chan whispered as he rested his chin against the top of her head. "Wake me up if you need anything else though, okay?"
"Okay," Y/N hummed. "I love you."
When Y/N woke again, the pain seemed to have disappeared. Chan was no longer beside her; Y/N sniffed, the sweet scent of baked goods wafting into the bedroom.
Y/N smiled as she slipped out of bed. She suddenly realised how hungry she was, and after quickly brushing her teeth, Y/N made her way out of the bedroom and popped her head into Noah's room.
His bed was empty. Shrugging, Y/N headed down the stairs.
Chan had just pulled a tray out from the oven when she entered the kitchen; he was pulling a comical face, a gloved hand batting steam away as he slid the tray onto the counter. Sat on a tall stool on the other side of the counter, Noah giggled, watching his father with shining eyes.
"Are they burnt?" Y/N giggled, clocking his facial expression. She kissed Noah on his forehead, squeezing the placid boy in a hug.
Chan' face immediately broke into a smile. "No. They're just … really hot."
Grinning, Y/N padded over to her husband who proudly wiggled his fingers in the direction of their breakfast.
"I made muffins!" Chan said happily. "Some of them are blueberry and some of them are chocolate chip. Is that okay?"
"More than okay," Y/N hummed as she reached for a chocolate one. But Chan yelped and his hand slid into hers, his eyebrows furrowed.
"Oi! They're hot," Chan laughed, batting her away with the oven gloves. "You'll burn yourself. Just wait five more minutes."
Y/N pouted. "But I'm hungry."
"You can wait five minutes," Chan hummed back, cupping a hand around her face and playfully squishing her cheeks as he pressed a kiss onto her lips. "How's your tummy?"
"It's fine," Y/N replied. "It's weird … I haven't started my period though."
Chan raised his eyebrows. "Maybe you're late?"
"Yeah, maybe … " Y/N trailed off. She saw Chan' face lighting up suddenly, and she almost choked, batting his excited hands away.
"Don't get your hopes up," Y/N laughed. She moved away and pulled out a seat beside Noah. The boy looked up at her with a crinkled grin and she slid an arm around him, playfully messing up his hair. "What's with the muffins, anyway?"
Chan shrugged as he slung the oven gloves over a hook. "You weren't feeling well. And I wanted to help."
"You always help," Y/N smiled. She turned to Noah, grinning at him as she put on a very exaggerated, simpering voice. "Isn't your daddy the most helpful man in the whole world?"
Noah nodded with a large grin. From the other side of the counter, Chan started to laugh as he pulled out the muffins from the tray, piling them onto a wooden board.
"Here," Chan slid them over to Y/N and Noah. "Now you can eat them. If they're bad, don't tell me … I don't want to know."
Noah giggled at that, and Chan smiled as he mopped a glass dry with a tea towel.
"You're not capable of making bad things," Y/N said as she reached for two chocolate muffins. She gave one to Noah, and the two of them pulled the wrapper down before taking large bites. Y/N slumped in her seat as she stared at her husband. "That's a fact. These are definitely not bad."
"Daddy are you not eating?" Noah asked, watching as his father moved to the other side of the kitchen.
Chan smiled. "Should I?"
Noah nodded eagerly. He picked up a muffin and held it out, and Chan grinned happily as he took it from his son before sitting opposite them both.
Just then, Y/N felt another rush of pain wash over her abdomen; she winced, rubbing her stomach, trying to ignore the pain.
Her husband of course noticed immediately. He broke a piece of his muffin and shoved it into his mouth before getting up again, wordlessly placing a heat pack into the microwave.
"Go sit down on the sofa baby," Chan' hands were gentle on her shoulders, as he leaned down to kiss her cheek. "I'll bring the things over for you."
Y/N groaned. She dropped her head against the man's arm, sighing. "You don't have to do all of this for me. I'm fine."
Chan frowned. "Don't argue with me. I'm looking after you, and you're gonna be looked after. No buts."
"But - "
"No. Buts," Chan grinned, kissing her forehead. "Go on. Go sit over there. Don't make me carry you like a toddler in front of Noey."
Y/N looked over at Noah. The boy in question was munching on his muffin, completely used to his parents' interactions.
Giggling, Y/N nodded. She slipped off of the stool and leaned up to kiss her husband before moving towards the sofa.
*☆*☆*
It had been a few days, and Y/N had finally managed to persuade her husband to go to work. Chan was uneasy … he hated the idea of leaving his wife alone when she wasn't feeling well. He wanted to be there for her and help her in any way that he could; but Y/N had insisted multiple times that she was fine. The pain wasn't as bad anymore, and she was more than capable of looking after herself.
Chan had sighed. But he had agreed; on the condition that one of his friends was to stay with her while he was away. Even if the beach he worked at was relatively close to their home, and he could potentially dash back to his wife if something bad happened … he didn't like the idea of her being alone.
Y/N had no idea why he was making such a fuss. It wasn't as though she hadn't ever thrown up on her period before … even if she hadn't really started her period yet. All the symptoms were there, plus a few extra - but no blood.
Now, Y/N watched Felix quietly. He was sitting beside her on the window seat, his arms around Noah and a book in his hands. He was reading to the younger boy in his low voice, and Noah's eyelids were drooping as Felix's words vibrated through his body.
As he turned the page, Felix looked up; he caught sight of Y/N staring at him and he smiled, his eyes lighting up.
"What?" Felix asked. "Why are you looking at me like that?"
Y/N chewed her lip. She slowly traced her fingertip around the rim of her mug, the tea inside it steaming up the glasses resting on the bridge of her nose.
"Do you remember that one time like … nearly five years ago … " Y/N began, wondering how to voice her thoughts.
Felix blinked. "Five years ago? When? Be more specific, maybe?"
Y/N smiled. "I rang you and asked you to buy me a pregnancy test."
Felix's eyes shone as he suddenly remembered exactly what she was talking about. "Oh, that time. Yeah, I remember … I brought you loads of stuff. Why?"
Y/N stared at him. Felix stared back, completely unaware of what she was trying to say.
All of a sudden the man gasped. His eyes widened with realisation, and he jutted his head towards her like an excitable chicken.
"What are you saying, Mrs Bahng?" Felix asked through a huge grin.
Noah looked up at him. "What are you talking about, Uncle Boks?"
Felix smiled. He hugged the little boy closer to him and rested his cheek against Noah's curls. "Would you like to be an older brother, Noey?"
Noah's brow creased. "Huh?"
Y/N sighed. She took a sip of her tea. "I don't know if I am, Lix. I haven't checked."
Felix rolled his eyes up to the ceiling in exasperation. "Why would you get me all excited for no reason?"
Y/N curled her legs up onto the seat. The movement seemed to set off another wave of cramps and she huffed, breathing slowly as she leaned against the window.
Felix watched her curiously. "Do you need anything?"
She shook her head. "I have my tea."
"Shall I get you a test?"
She shook her head again and bit her lip. "I bought some already."
"Mama, can I go play?" Noey asked suddenly, pointing to the window.
Looking down at him, Y/N smiled. She cupped the boy's cheek and kissed his nose. "Okay. Be careful … the grass might be a little slippery."
Nodding, Noah squeezed Felix in a hug before sliding off of his lap. He then waddled away, making his way to the garden.
Y/N sighed as she watched him. There was something wistful in her expression, and though she was smiling, Felix noticed it wasn't a very happy smile.
He gently touched her knee. "What's wrong?"
Hiding behind her mug of tea, Y/N shut her eyes. She exhaled shakily, feeling ridiculous as she became aware of a familiar prickle at the back of her eyes.
"I'm scared," Y/N whispered, leaning her head back against the window.
Felix's eyes softened. Reaching out and taking her mug from her hand, Felix set it down before pulling the woman into a hug.
"Why are you scared?" He asked her quietly as he patted her shoulders.
"Because," Y/N breathed. "It's scary."
That made Felix giggle; he pulled away and looked at her with a smile on his face, and his expression led to Y/N smiling back. She shook her head, suddenly feeling very tired as she rubbed her hand over her face.
"I thought you love being a mum?" Felix said softly. He tilted his head towards the window; Noah was sat on the edge of the alfresco, his legs swinging back and forth as he sang to himself quietly. "Who wouldn't when you have a kid like that. He's a mini Chan."
"He is," Y/N rubbed her nose with the back of her hand as she sniffed. "He's already so much like Chan … and I do love being a mum … but what if I really am pregnant? What if this child turns out to be like me?"
Felix frowned.
"I don't even know why I'm scared … " Y/N laughed suddenly, sagging against her friend. "I just am."
"Okay, look … why don't you take a test? You might not even be pregnant … you might just be overthinking everything," Felix said, slipping his hand into hers. "And if you are, well … you're not alone. You have Chan, and me, and everyone else. Whatever happens, you won't have to go through it alone, okay?"
Y/N smiled at that. She nodded, giving Felix a watery smile. "Okay. Thanks, Felix."
"Don't thank me. Now … go. Go take a piss," Felix said with mischief, and Y/N burst into watery laughter as she got up from her seat.
*☆*☆*
Y/N stared at the stick in her hand.
She set it down on the edge of the sink's cabinet next to the other two positive pregnancy tests. Pulling her trousers back up, Y/N washed her hands before sinking down onto a small stool, dropping her face into her hands.
Tears spilled through the gaps in her fingers in hot streams. She couldn't remember the last time so many emotions flooded through her … shock, excitement, happiness, fear, sadness … they all zapped at her like bolts of lightning until she was shaking in her seat.
"Mama?" There was a knock at the door, and Y/N sniffed, hastily wiping her tears away. "Mama what are you doing?"
Making sure her face was dry, Y/N got up and opened the door. She crouched down with a smile as she held her arms out, and Noah immediately walked up to her with a hug.
"You okay baby?" Y/N asked as she stood up with the boy in her arms.
Noah nodded. He dropped his head against his mother's chest; he smelled like the outdoors, rain and leaves with a hint of cocoa from his hot chocolate. "Want cuddles."
"Come on then," Y/N carried him down the stairs and back into the living room; Felix was sprawled over the window seat, his eyebrows furrowed in a way that suggested he was far too engrossed in the children's book he was reading.
He swung his legs off and sat back up again when he saw Y/N. His eyes were wide as he watched the woman slump down onto the sofa, Noah sat on her lap.
"Well?" Felix asked tentatively. "What did you learn?"
Y/N turned her gaze onto him. She exhaled slowly as a smile spread across her lips, and Felix immediately scrambled up and off of the window seat.
"Really?" He whispered, reaching for her hands. "Are you actually?"
"I took three tests," Y/N said. "And they're all positive."
"I'll make some more tea," Felix said with a large grin, and he made his way to the kitchen without waiting for a response.
Y/N couldn't help but let out a giggle before dropping her hand onto her face. She was rather overwhelmed by the entire situation, but she chose not to focus on the anxiety; instead she squeezed Noah and turned to look at him.
"Noey?" She asked gently as the boy tilted her head up to her in response. Smiling, Y/N kissed the top of his head. "How would you like a younger brother or sister?"
Noah's eyebrows furrowed. Then his eyes widened as realisation clicked in his brain.
"Are you having another baby, mama?" Noah asked carefully. He scrambled around on her lap before kneeling up, his small hands pressing themselves gently against his mother's face. "Am I going to be a big brother? I don't know how to be a big brother, mama."
Giggling at her son's response, Y/N kissed his fingers. "You'll learn, Noey. Just keep being you and you'll be the perfect big brother."
Looking down at him again, Y/N squeezed him in a hug. "What would you prefer? A sister or a brother?"
Noah thought for a moment. Then he shrugged just as Felix brought over two mugs of tea.
"Don't mind," Noah said. "I'm going to love him or her the same."
Feeling her eyes prickle at his response, Y/N picked up the mug of tea Felix brought and took a sip of it. She sniffed and Felix started to laugh when he clocked the emotional expression on her face.
"How are you going to tell him?" Felix asked, slumping onto the sofa seat beside her. "Chan, I mean."
Smiling suddenly, Y/N shook her head. "Not extravagantly, if that's what you mean."
She leaned down and kissed Noah's temple. "I have a job for you, baby."
*☆*☆*
Chan was in his office, the doors shut tightly. His voice reverberated off of the walls in snippets, and Y/N waited patiently for him to finish his phone call in the hallway.
"Remember what to do?" Y/N crouched down in front of her four year old with a smile. "Can you carry this, baby? Or is it too big?"
Noah took the small box from his mother with a determined smile on his face. "I can do it."
"Good boy," Y/N kissed the boy's forehead. Peering in through the door, she smoothed out Noah's curls. "I think daddy is done. Go on, baby. I'll open the door for you … "
Pushing the door open, Y/N watched as Noah waddled into the room with his box; Chan swivelled around in his seat and his tired face broke into a large smile as his gaze landed on his son, his arms immediately opening up to him.
"Hey kiddo," Chan grinned, sliding his hands under the boy's arms and lifting him up onto his desk. He cocked his head to the side. "What have you got there then?"
Noah grinned. "It's for you."
"For me?" Chan asked, surprised. He looked up, his eyes sparkling as he saw his wife leaning against the doorframe. "Is it my dinner?"
Giggling, Noah shook his head. "Nope."
"No? Hmm … is it … your dinner?" Chan chuckled, making the boy burst into more energetic giggles as he shook his head adamantly.
"No!"
"Well, if it's not my dinner, and it's not your dinner … it must be your mummy's dinner?" Chan joked, and Y/N laughed when she saw the way Noah wriggled around on the desk with joy in his eyes.
"Open it, daddy," Noah pushed the box towards the older man a little more.
"Okay," Chan smiled. He removed the lid and his eyebrows shot up into his hairline when he saw the tissue paper and speckles of confetti. "What could this be, hmm … ?"
With his gentle fingers, Chan removed the tissue paper and dusted away the confetti before pulling out the contents; it was one of Noah's newborn outfits, the fabric soft and worn. He lifted it out in confusion, the tiny pocket at the front crumpling as a piece of folded up paper poked out of it.
"What's this?" Chan asked half to himself as he unfolded the paper. Reading the words, he was confused. "'Round two'?"
He looked up at Y/N, his eyebrows furrowed.
Y/N snorted with quiet laughter. "Look in the box again."
Doing as he was told, Chan rifled through the tissue paper. His fingers landed on a slender stick, and he had barely pulled it out when he realised what was happening.
"Wait," Chan exhaled slowly as he set the box on his desk. "Is this … round two as in … ?"
Y/N was nodding at him as Chan' eyes widened. Placing the pregnancy test back in the box, Chan pushed his chair back before stumbling towards his wife.
"This isn't a prank, right?" Chan whispered as he slipped his hands into his wife's hands. "Are we having another baby?"
"It's not a prank, baby," Y/N hummed, wrapping her arms around his shoulders. She searched his eyes with her gaze, and when she saw them welling up with tears, her own vision grew blurry.
Pulling her into him by their entwined hands, Chan suddenly hugged his wife tightly. His face pressed against her neck, Y/N could feel the man's smile on her skin and she giggled as she hugged him back, her hands light on his back.
"See, I knew," Chan chuckled when he pulled back. He wiped the backs of his knuckles against his glistening eyes as he held his wife's arms. "I knew that day when you said you hadn't got your period."
"I guess you did," Y/N grinned. Her husband looked so happy in that moment that Y/N's earlier worries seemed to slip from her mind; she shared the man's joy as he suddenly scooped her up into another hug, his giggles tickling her neck.
From his father's desk, Noah watched his parents with a soft smile.
"I'm gonna be a big brother!" Noah called in excitement.
Pulling away from his wife's embrace at Noah's happy words, Chan grinned. He made his way to his desk and scooped the little boy into his arms before planting a fat kiss on his rosy cheek.
"Yes you are," Chan laughed, squeezing him in a hug as he moved towards his wife again. "Are you excited, Noey?"
Noah nodded enthusiastically, so much so that his eyes seemed to spin a little once he had stopped. He looked dizzy, and Y/N and Chan couldn't help but giggle at the frazzled look on his face.
Later that night when Y/N was tucking Noah up in bed, Chan flicked the switch of the kettle. His mind was spinning with quiet happiness as he stared off into the distance, completely unaware of his hands moving on their own to reach for the teabags.
Chan was going to be a father again. He was going to experience the sheer miracle of growing and raising a child with his favourite person all over again.
He couldn't be more excited.
"He fell asleep so quickly," Y/N's amused voice snapped Chan out of his soft thinking. The man smiled as he poured hot water on top of his tea bags. "Think all the excitement exhausted him, poor thing."
"What about you? Are you exhausted?" Chan asked, turning around. He held a mug out to his wife and Y/N smiled, grateful as she accepted the beverage from him.
"Not really. More like jittery," Y/N said. "Kinda anxious."
“Why?” Chan asked curiously as he patted the sofa seat beside him. He placed his mug down on the table before sliding his arm around Y/N, his eyes soft as he rubbed her shoulder. “Everything okay?”
Y/N sighed as she leaned into him. She traced her finger around the rim of the mug, trying to recollect her thoughts from the jumble of chaos in her mind.
“It's just … it's like a new beginning again … “ Y/N said quietly. “And I can't stop thinking … what if I do something wrong this time around?”
“You won't,” Chan kissed her temple.
Y/N looked up at him. “How do you know?”
“Because I see how well you take care of Noey,” Chan said softly. “You were terrified the first time around … but look how well you're doing, hmm? Our Noey adores you.”
At that, Y/N couldn't help but smile. “That's true.”
Squeezing his wife's shoulder, Chan reached for his mug of tea. “Don't let those negative thoughts in your head make you believe that you're anything less than an incredible parent. Because you are incredible. You don't see what I see.”
Sipping her tea, Y/N giggled. “Alright, Bahng. I didn't ask for a sappy therapy session.”
“Well, you kinda did,” Chan chuckled as he leaned back again. “But really … don't sweat it, yeah? You're going to be absolutely fine, baby girl.”
Nodding gratefully at the steady stream of reassurance that left her husband's lips, Y/N exhaled slowly.
Perhaps things wouldn't be so bad after all.
*☆*☆*
It was as though everything in the kitchen was created specifically to emit scents so nauseous that Y/N was required to throw up every hour.
Coffee, toast, the meat from yesterday's dinner, her favourite tea, garlic, eggs … anything that Y/N previously enjoyed, now made her retch with the characteristics of a picky toddler.
But she could live without those things. She could live with hating her favourite foods.
However her memory of her previous pregnancy seemed to have wiped itself from her mental inventory; Y/N was completely shocked and completely upset when she realised the scent of her husband now made her want to run three miles away and hurl the contents of her stomach into the nearest bush.
Chan, of course, being the most understanding man Y/N had ever met, did everything to make sure she didn't have to deal with his scent. Showering extra, changing his clothes multiple times a day, refraining from smothering his wife in affectionate hugs despite his longing to do so - he even shut his cologne away in his office, stopping himself from using it every morning. He even insisted that he would go and sleep in one of the guest rooms on one particularly rocky evening when Y/N tossed and turned enough to tip the mattress; but Y/N refused.
She still did want him with her.
Chan did whatever he could to keep his wife happy. He didn't take her sudden dislike for him personally. He did however, make a mental note to lightly complain to the baby one day about how hard it was for him to keep away from Y/N.
All in good fun, of course.
“How are you feeling?” Chan asked Y/N with a tender smile. He was seated at the other end of the breakfast bar, the space provided by the empty seats in between them both feeling incredibly large to Chan.
Y/N stabbed a chunk of apple with her fork. Chan had carefully cut up a bowl of fruit for her breakfast; for some reason, fruit was currently the only thing that didn't send the woman running to the sink.
“Still queasy,” Y/N sighed. She smiled then, biting the apple. “But better.”
“Do you need anything else?” Chan asked. He laughed suddenly, shaking his head. “You're so far away. It's weird. We look like those couples who fight all the time and can't stand each other.”
Y/N giggled. He did have a point; even though Chan's comment couldn't be farther than the correct way of describing their relationship, Y/N had to admit sitting in such a manner did look slightly uncanny.
“Well, if you're lucky, we'll be back to normal in what … seven weeks?”
Chan pulled a very stupid face in response. “You do realise that once you stop hating me, you're gonna have to be cuddled twenty-four seven, right?”
“I don't hate you,” Y/N stuck her tongue out at him, making him chuckle. “And honestly, right now the thought of that makes me wanna throw up.”
Chan looked anxious. “Don't throw up. You only just got some food down you.”
“Don't talk about cuddling, then,” Y/N countered. She smiled, forking up a piece of melon. “I'm sure future me loves the idea though.”
“I hope she does,” Chan grumbled, though a soft smile stayed glued to his lips. He cocked his head to the side and repeated his earlier question. “Need anything else?”
Y/N shook her head. She held up the bag of mints that had become attached to her hip in the last week. The minty scent was one of the only things that quelled her intense nausea. “Nah. These mints and I are in a very important relationship.”
“More important than ours, by the looks of things,” Chan joked, rolling his eyes. “Tell me if you need anything else though, yeah? Whatever it is … don't hesitate.”
Y/N pursed her lips in thought as she watched her husband slip his empty plate under the water tap. “How about … ketchup and dark chocolate?”
Chan choked loudly. He stared at her over his shoulder. “I'm sorry … what?”
“Hey, don't knock it until you've tried it, Mr,” Y/N waved her fork around.
Chan blinked. “When was the last time you had ketchup and chocolate together?”
“Well … never. But I'm pretty convinced it'd taste like heaven right now,” Y/N tapped her chin.
“You're insane,” Chan shook his head as he began to wash his plate. “You don't even like ketchup on a good day. Talking about ketchup and chocolate … absolute madness.”
“Hey, aren't you the same man who eats eggs with chocolate milk?” Y/N pointed out. “Don't come at me for my cravings when you eat like that.”
Chan's shoulders shook with mirth. “Okay, okay. I'll buy you your ketchup and chocolate. Write down whatever else you want … I'll go shopping in a bit.”
“Love you,” Y/N grinned innocently as Chan dried his plate. He then quickly moved towards her and pressed a fleeting kiss to her temple, his laughter sweet as he ran from the room.
The next few weeks passed by quicker than either Chan and Y/N could comprehend. Y/N's nausea had increased and then decreased, her mood and fatigue fluctuating with each day. She was convinced she had gone through nearly a dozen packets of menthol sweets by now; but they were truly the only things that seemed to balance the queasiness inside of her.
She had also managed to come up with combinations of food which had resulted in her husband feeling sick too. But there was a smile on Chan’ face as he watched Y/N work her way through some of the most bizarre snacks he had ever seen; as strange as they were, they seemed to make her happy, and to Chan, that was all that mattered.
Now on her eleventh week, Y/N was laying on the far end of the sofa, Chan sitting on the other side with his full attention on his wife. Y/N was scrolling through her phone in curiosity and she let out a steady stream of information as she did so.
“Baby is now the size of a fig!” Y/N exclaimed, a grin on her face. She patted the slight bump of her stomach, and Chan chuckled in adoration. “There's fruit inside of me.”
“Well you know what they say,” Chan hummed. “You are what you eat.”
Y/N giggled. It was true; having rediscovered her love for most types of fruit in the past two months, Y/N had devoured multiple figs amongst other things.
She groaned suddenly, sitting up. “Bathroom time.”
Chan held his hand out with a large smile. “Leave your phone with me? I want to read more.”
“You do?” Y/N asked. “Really?”
“Of course I do,” Chan shrugged. “It's interesting, no?”
Y/N beamed. She leaned down and gently kissed the man's forehead before vacating the room, leaving Chan to read through the rest of the article.
In the bathroom, Y/N didn't expect anything to be amiss. She was completely unaware of anything until she reached to pull her pants up; her gaze landed on her underwear, and she froze.
Little streaks of blood ran down the middle section of her underwear. The sight of them made Y/N's breath hitch, and unable to move, Y/N couldn't help it when her body started trembling a moment later. A dozen possibilities of the cause ran through the woman's mind, but she couldn't focus on any of them minus one specific thing that centred itself at the forefront of her mind.
Miscarriage.
The next few moments were a blur as Y/N flushed and washed her hands. She trailed down the stairs as though she was in a trance; she barely noticed Chan giggling to himself as he scrolled through more articles and blog posts, his eyes soft as he soaked up every ounce of information. Noah was curled up beside him, and one of Chan’ arms was draped around the boy's shoulders.
“Did you know the baby already has little fingernails and ears?” Chan hummed quietly to Noah. Y/N watched unseeingly as Chan reached out and gently tickled Noah's nose. “Isn't that so cool?”
Noah nodded. He curled up further into his father's side, his face glowing with comfort.
Chan looked up suddenly as he heard his wife approaching. Registering the ghostly pallor to her face, Chan’ smile slowly melted off of his face.
“Baby? What's the matter?” Chan asked as Y/N walked slowly towards him. He could see her shaking from the sofa; gently disentangling Noah from his side, Chan kissed the top of his head and swung himself off of his seat.
He reached his hands out and placed them on the sides of Y/N's arms as he searched her eyes. His voice was so soft when he spoke that Y/N couldn't help it; tears bloomed in her eyes and she gasped suddenly.
“There was blood,” Y/N breathed, her voice wavering. “There … was blood, Chan. Something's wrong.”
“Hey now,” Chan murmured, rubbing his arms with gentle pressure over Y/N's arms. “You don't know that there's definitely something wrong, hmm? I was reading the rest of that when you left … it says a bit of bleeding at this stage is completely normal, baby.”
Y/N shook her head frantically. “But what if it's not? What if … what if I'm … what if this ends up as a miscarriage?”
“Hey … look at me baby,” Chan said. When Y/N looked up into his eyes, she felt her heart’s thumping rampage slow down. There was so much reassurance in her husband's warm eyes that she started to believe for a moment that everything was completely fine.
“This baby is going to be fine,” Chan continued, his fingers delicate as they squeezed her shoulders. “Yeah? Everything is gonna be okay … I promise.”
“But what if it's not?” Y/N whispered again.
Chan leaned forward and kissed her forehead, his hands going to cup the sides of her face. Y/N would have pulled away from him, his scent too strong; but she found that right now, there was nothing else that could possibly calm her down apart from her husband's touch.
“If it's not, then that's just what is supposed to happen, hmm?” Chan hummed. “Whatever happens will happen because that's what is best for you, and for us … even if we can't see the bigger picture yet.”
Y/N looked at him with wide eyes. She exhaled slowly, letting Chan’ words sink in.
“Let's go get it checked out,” Chan hummed. “I can guarantee that it's nothing … but it might make you feel better, yeah?”
Y/N nodded. She rubbed her eyes, forcing herself to smile at him. “Okay.”
“Okay,” Chan smiled. He kissed her nose before walking towards Noah again who was curled around the thick blanket on the sofa, his drooping eyes focused on the TV in front of him.
“Kiddo? Fancy seeing your lovely aunty Hannah today?” Chan asked Noah with a smile.
Noah's face lit up. He nodded enthusiastically, and Chan laughed as he tucked his hands under the boy's arms, lifting him up into his warm embrace.

“Baby is going crazy in there,” the sonographer laughed as she moved her probe over the lower portion of Y/N's stomach. “Heartbeat is nice and strong … everything is as it should be.”
Y/N exhaled slowly as relief washed over her. She looked to her side and Chan was grinning down at her, his hand going to gently caress the top of her head.
“What about the bleeding?” Chan asked.
“A bit of spotting is completely normal in the first trimester,” the sonographer explained as she peered at her screen. “It happens when the embryo attaches itself to the wall of the womb. Nothing to worry about … but it's always good to get it checked out.”
At that, Chan smiled as he looked down at his wife. She was grinning up at him again and the man couldn't help but lean down and press a soft kiss to her forehead.

Y/N had just gotten comfortable amongst the heap of blankets on the sofa when her stomach decided to wreak havoc; her eyes widened at the sudden fluttering feeling inside of her.
“Noey!” Y/N hummed in an excitable tone as she reached out to caress her son's head. “I think your sibling might be a swimmer.”
Noah looked up at his mother with round eyes. His face broke into a smile and he shuffled closer to her. “How?”
“Because I can feel it,” Y/N grinned. “It's like the baby is swimming in here.”
“Like daddy,” Noah giggled.
“What's like daddy?” Chan padded over from the kitchen with a large smile. He set a few bowls of different snacks onto the coffee table before shuffling onto the sofa in-between Noah and Y/N.
Noah smiled as he cuddled up to his father's side. “The baby,” Noah said.
“Oh yeah?” Chan asked as he slid his arm around Y/N's shoulders, his other arm almost smothering Noah like a second blanket. “How so?”
“Mama said the baby is swimming,” Noah explained.
Chan furrowed his brows as he peered at his wife. “Swimming?”
“I think the baby is kicking,” Y/N laughed. “It feels like it's swimming.”
Eyes widening, Chan redacted his arm and placed a hand on his wife's bump instead. “Kicking? Really?”
“Yeah … “ Y/N's voice trailed off. She gasped lightly as she felt another thud inside of her, and curling her fingers around Chan's wrist, she moved her husband's hand to the other side of her stomach. “Can you feel it?”
Chan shut his eyes as he smoothed his fingers over his wife's stomach. Y/N watched as his face slowly spread into a smile, his eyes opening again as he started to laugh under his breath.
“Definitely a swimmer, or a footballer … maybe both,” Chan grinned.
Noah climbed onto Chan's lap and leaned into Y/N. “I want to feel.”
Y/N squished his cheeks. “I think baby is taking a little break.”
Noah dropped his head against the side of Y/N's stomach. His voice was quiet when he spoke. “Are you tired, baby?”
Chan beamed with affection at the adorable sight. He patted Noah's head softly, his fingers slipping into his mop of curls.
Just then, Noah sat up abruptly. He rubbed his cheek in confusion. “The baby kicked me.”
Bursting into laughter, Y/N leaned close to Noah and kissed his flushed cheek. “I think that was the baby's way of telling you it's not tired.”
“It,” Chan repeated with a short laugh. “Can't wait to find out what gender it is tomorrow … feels so weird calling it an … it.”
“I know,” Y/N giggled. She patted her stomach thoughtfully. “I'm glad we're not doing a fancy gender reveal party. Those make my head spin.”
“Me too,” Chan agreed. “Simple is definitely the best. But I mean … how much do you bet that Felix is gonna turn up on the doorstep with a massive platter of themed food?”
“Uncle Boks is coming?” Noah chimed in suddenly.
Chan kissed the top of his head with a smile. “You love your uncle Boks, don't you?”
Noah nodded happily. “I love all my uncles.”
At that, Chan couldn't help but share a knowing glance with his wife. “What do you think of a movie night?”
“I thought we said we didn't want to make a fuss,” Y/N whined.
“Since when is a movie night a fuss?” Chan started to laugh. He slipped his arms around Y/N and kissed her cheek, Nuzzling his nose against her skin. “It'd just be the guys. And pizza. And blankets. And whatever else Felix and Minho bring along. Hmm?”
Try as she might, Y/N couldn't keep the smile off of her face.“Fine.”
Cheering, Chan buried his face into Y/N's shoulder as Y/N started to laugh under her breath.
“I'm only doing it because Noey loves his uncles,” Y/N said as she tickled Noah's chin. “And because I like … pizza.”
Chan looked up at her with a provoking smirk. “And … ?”
“And that's it,” Y/N huffed.
Chuckling, Chan sneakily slipped his hand under her arm and tickled her sides. “And?”
“And I like you,” Y/N giggled as she batted her husband's hands away. “I like you a lot. Now, leave me alone.”
His face one of utmost joy, Chan squeezed his wife even more. He rested his chin against her shoulder as he looked up at her slowly reddening face, and Chan inwardly cheered with more joy as he felt his wife melt into his embrace, her body sinking further into the sofa.
The next day after the scan, Chan couldn't stop staring at Y/N's ultrasound photos in awe.
“She's adorable,” Chan kept saying. He used his index finger to gently tickle the grainy photo of their daughter. “Isn't she adorable?”
Y/N was already over the moon; she would have been happy with either gender. But something about having one of each was making Y/N's heart flip.
She couldn't wait to see how Noah would look after his little sister.
“Look at her little nose!” Chan was gushing to himself as he followed Y/N around the store's aisles. “And her little fingers! Baby she's the cutest thing I've ever seen.”
“She's probably getting such a big head with all your compliments, Christopher,” Y/N grinned as she slipped her arm through his. “Tone it down or I'll have a harder time getting her out.”
At that, Chan erupted into a fit of quiet giggles. He slipped the photo into the forefront of his wallet before placing his wallet back into his hoodie pocket, and he grinned as he kissed his wife's cheek. “Halt the compliments until she's out - got it.”
“Thoughtful as ever,” Y/N commented and patted Chan's hand. Her eyes lit up immediately after as her gaze landed on the plethora of newborn outfits displayed in front of her. Giddy suddenly, Y/N lightly ran towards the aisle, and with tender eyes, Chan followed her, a large basket clutched in his hand.
“It suddenly feels so real … “ Y/N whispered as she ran her fingers through the clothes. She couldn't stop herself when her eyes began to tear up, and she placed a hand on her bump as she looked towards her husband. “Chris … we're having a baby. We're having a baby girl.”
His lips curved into the softest of permanent smiles, Chan reached out and used the side of his thumb to caress the tears away from the tops of Y/N's cheekbones. He then trailed his hand to the side of her face before leaning in to kiss her forehead. “We better start getting some clothes for her then, hmm? Or she'll have to be wrapped up with toilet roll.”
Spluttering with laughter at her husband's ever present terrible humour, Y/N nodded. “You're right. But how are we supposed to choose? Everything is so cute … “
“Let's just get everything,” Chan started to laugh. He pulled an ivory coloured onesie off of a rack, and his face scrunched up into one of overwhelming cute aggression as he held it up to his wife. “Look how this is … it has a tiny puppy coming out of the pocket.”
Y/N's own eyes melted as she saw the small illustration behind the chest pocket. “Put it in the basket then.”
After scouring the shop for a good hour, Y/N and Chan left with two heavy bags. They were suddenly very excited as they placed the bags into their car, Chan unable to hold his emotions back when he threw his arms around his wife the moment the boot closed, his hug immediately engulfing her with warmth.
*☆*☆*
“No.”
“Christopher - “
“No. Sit down.”
Y/N sighed as Chan placed his hands on her shoulders and steered her into a corner armchair.
“Stay,” Chan instructed. He wagged his index finger at her, his face one of mock sternness. “I mean it. Stay put until I'm done.”
Y/N stuck her tongue out at him. “But I'm fine. I can help you.”
“I know you're fine, but I don't want you moving heavy things around,” Chan tutted as he rolled his sleeves up to his elbows. “Just let me do this, okay? Sit back and see how handsome your husband is as he lifts heavy furniture.”
Chan wiggled his eyebrows and Y/N started to laugh.
She had to admit that he did have a rather large point. There was something about watching her husband do heavy duty work that was incredibly attractive to her.
“Fine,” Y/N grinned as she leaned back into her seat. She rested her hands over her growing bump, a smile on her face as she watched Chan move the coffee table away from their sofa. “But you have to let me help with the blankets.”
Chan grinned. “Deal.”
The man tossed the cushions from the sofa aside, giggling mischievously when Y/N shook her head at him. He then started to pull at the modular sections of their sofa; Y/N bit her lip as the veins of his forearms rose to the surface of his skin, the muscles of his shoulders pulsing under the thin fabric of his shirt.
Gaze falling on his wife, Chan smirked. “Enjoying the view?”
Y/N threw a cushion at him.
Pushing and pulling at the different pieces, Chan had soon managed to transform the L shaped sofa into a very large square. It was the perfect base for a heap of fluffy blankets, and he stared at in delight once he had stood up properly again.
“What do you think?” Chan asked as he wiped the back of his hand over his brow. “Is it okay? Want me to move it to a different place?”
“It's perfect,” Y/N grinned as she got up again. She shuffled over to her husband and slid her arms around his waist before kissing his shoulder. “I still wish you'd have let me help you.”
“There was nothing to it,” Chan insisted with a large smile on his face. He turned around and cupped the woman's face in his hands before brushing her lips with his own. “Let's go get those blankets, hmm? The guys will be here soon.”
Nodding, Y/N stole another kiss from her husband before slipping her hand into his. They made their way to the large crate of blankets they kept nearby, and Chan was soon wrapped in an air of childish joy as she rifled through them all, delight on his face.
“Is there going to be enough room on the sofa?” Y/N asked, peering over her husband's shoulder.
“I think so,” Chan hummed as he pulled out a heavy blanket. He draped it over his head, giggling as he wrapped it around himself so that he resembled that of a burrito. “But you know what they're like … they're probably going to end up on the floor anyway.”
Together, Y/N and Chan draped their blankets over the sofa. They tucked cushions around the sides, and satisfied with the level of cosiness they had achieved, Y/N and Chan high fived each other with wide smiles on their faces.
It wasn't long before there was an energetic bang on their door. Y/N opened it to reveal an excitable Felix, the man throwing his arms around her just after passing a huge bag to the man behind him.
“Y/N!” Felix exclaimed happily as he hugged his friend. “You have no idea how excited I am … I can't wait to have makeovers, and play dress up, and have sleepovers, and go shopping, and - “
“I'm sure she'll love that, Lix,” Y/N grinned as she hugged the man back. Felix disentangled himself from her with another wide grin before Minho stepped in from behind him.
“We brought food,” Minho elaborated with an impassive face as he gestured to the bag Felix had thrust at him. “It's all pink.”
Chan smiled as he watched his friends traipse in through their front door. The house was soon filled with the familiar loud hubbub of their chatter, and it reminded Chan of the days he had spent living by their sides. He couldn't help but feel a huge surge of comfort and happiness as he watched his family from the side, his eyes soft and his lips sporting the most tender of smiles.
From one of the large bean bags on the floor, Seungmin looked up towards Chan who was lingering in the kitchen.
“What are you doing in there?” Seungmin asked dryly. “Oh wait, I forgot … old men are ten times slower than normal people.”
Chan rolled his eyes and adopted a downwards tilt of his mouth in response to Seungmin's comment. “Yeah, yeah. You're so funny, Seungmin.”
“And you're old,” Seungmin repeated. He pointed to Y/N's stomach. “Ninth kid? Are we not enough for you?”
Bursting into a fit of giggles, Chan made his way to the seating area and threw himself on top of Seungmin.
Seungmin's face instantly dropped as regret flashed over his face, his friends erupting into laughter all around him.
“Don't kill him,” Y/N commented. She looked on in amusement as Chan made kissy noises at his defeated friend. “He only just got here.”
“You're right,” Chan hummed, sitting back up again. He grinned as Seungmin readjusted the fit of his hoodie with a sigh. “Anyway. Should we order pizza now?”
“Yes,” Jisung and Changbin said immediately.
Sitting on Felix's lap on the floor, Noah looked up towards his father. “Pizza?”
“Yes baby, pizza,” Chan grinned, reaching out ruffle Noah's hair. “Do you want some?”
Noah nodded. “A little bit.”
“Okay, a little bit of pizza for Noey … what does everyone else want?”
It took a while for Chan to order the food; for some reason, Jisung kept changing his mind, selecting a different option every thirty seconds. It resulted in both Hyunjin and Jeongin repeatedly hitting him with a cushion, agitated that Jisung was delaying their sustenance.
The food arrived quicker than expected, and as Chan had predicted, the group had gathered around on the floor. Pushing things out of the way, they had settled their pizza boxes in the middle and instead leaned back against the sofa and the armchairs as the TV in front of them flashed with one of the many movies they intended on watching. It was warm and toasty, the rug beneath them soft, and the fire on the wall providing extra comfort. It was cosier than Chan and Y/N had anticipated, and they both shared secretive glances of satisfaction as they shuffled towards each other.
Opening his pizza box, Chan reached for a slice and gently blew on it to cool it down before holding it out to his wife with a tempting smile. His voice was a whisper as he leaned closer to her, his eyes sparkling under the dim lights.
“Say ‘ah’,” Chan hummed.
Y/N's lips twitched. She leaned forward and took a bite of the hot pizza, Chan watching her with delight before taking a bite of his own. With his free hand, Chan slipped his fingers into his wife's, gently squeezing her hand with his warmth.
“This is nice,” Y/N murmured in a low voice. She took another bite of the pizza before dropping her head against her husband's shoulder. “I'm happy.”
Her words made Chan's heart soar. “You are?”
“I am,” Y/N nodded. She grinned then, lifting her head again to look her husband in his eye. “Thank you.”
Chan was about to reply with something sappy when fake nauseated sounds alerted them both; Chan and Y/N both turned to see Hyunjin pretending to throw up, Seungmin looking as though he wanted to throw a brick at them both.
“You're both disgusting,” Hyunjin grimaced. “Cute, but very disgusting.”
Chuckling at his friends, Chan tilted his head towards the TV as he spoke to Hyunjin. “Well, what are you looking at? Watch the movie.”
“It'd be so much easier to watch if someone wasn't yapping every two seconds,” Seungmin sighed.
“Hey!” Chan laughed. “We were both whispering.”
Seungmin's lips twitched with the trace of a smile before he turned his attention towards the TV again. “Whisper quieter.”
Y/N started to giggle as she leaned her head against her husband's arm again.
“They love us really,” she grinned.
Chan slid further down the floor as he cuddled into his wife a little more, his nose brushing her cheek as he flashed a content smile at her. “Yeah. They do.”
It didn't take long for everyone's energy to die down. Soon, only Chan, Y/N, and Hyunjin were awake; Noah was curled up into a tiny ball on Felix's lap, Felix's arms around him and the older man's head resting against Changbin's bicep.
Y/N watched Hyunjin curiously over her husband's shoulder; he was sprawled on his stomach over the rug in front of the fire, utilising the illumination of the flames as he scrawled looping shapes over a page in his sketchbook.
“What are you drawing?” Y/N asked him quietly, so as not to disturb the others.
Chan's own head was drooping against her shoulder. He sat up suddenly at the sound of her voice, and Y/N grinned. She cupped the side of his head, guiding him back down to her shoulder before tangling her hand with his in his lap.
Hyunjin smiled. “You two.”
“Us?” Chan asked through a heavy yawn. “Why?”
“Because,” Hyunjin said slowly as he went back to his sketch. “You look like love.”
Hearing the scratching of his pencil on the paper after Hyunjin's words, Y/N wasn't surprised when the room seemed to swim infront of her. Nor was she surprised when Chan's body started to shake with silent laughter against hers, his fingers coming up to brush the wetness of her eyes away.
“You made my wife cry,” Chan chuckled under his breath. “You're a bad man, Hyunjin.”
“Oh stop it,” Y/N sniffed, her own face breaking into a smile. “I'm not crying.”
Hyunjin grinned. “I'll add tears to the drawing.”
“I thought you said we were gross?” Y/N cocked her head to the side.
Hyunjin shrugged. “Never said it was a bad kind of gross.”
Giggling quietly, Y/N rubbed her eyes before leaning back again. She ignored Chan's adoring gaze; he was purposefully staring at her every movement, a crooked smile on his face. “Aren't you tired?”
Hyunjin shook his head. “No. Aren't you?”
“I am,” Chan mumbled as he dropped his head against Y/N again.
Y/N patted his head. “Okay, Big Guy, let's get you to bed.”
Chan pouted. “But Hyunjin … “
“Don't worry, he's not going to rob the house,” Y/N joked, and Hyunjin's eyes crinkled with mirth as he continued to draw. “There's more blankets in that crate if you need them, Jinnie. And you're more than welcome to sleep on the sofa … don't just stay on the floor like everyone else. Honestly … what's the point in having guest rooms and big sofas? Clearly everyone prefers the floor.”
“It's comfy,” Hyunjin smiled. “The rug is really soft. And it's cosy and warm in front of the fire.”
“Well, I can't argue with that,” Y/N said grinned as she made to stand up, hauling her husband up with her. “Do you need anything else?”
Hyunjin shook his head and waved his fingers at her. “I'm good. Go … have a good sleep.”
Nodding, Y/N then bent down and gently kissed Noah's head. He stirred in Felix's arms and Y/N smiled, smoothing away his frizzy hair.
“Do you want to sleep in your bed, baby?” Y/N asked the four year old quietly.
Noah shook his head. “Comfy with Uncle Boks.”
Chan smiled sleepily at that, and Y/N kissed Noah's head again.
“Okay. Your daddy and I are going to our room now … if you need anything, wake one of your uncles up, okay? Uncle Jinnie is still awake too … maybe he'll draw you if you ask him nicely.” Y/N said as Hyunjin started to laugh.
Noah giggled. He then moved to kiss Y/N's cheek, and then Chan's, before curling up in Felix lap again like a small cat.
Once they were in their bedroom, Chan disappeared into their wardrobe. Y/N was perched on the edge of their bed when he emerged again. His entire being was hidden behind something very large and very fluffy looking, and Y/N's eyes widened when he dumped it onto the bed.
“I bought you this,” Chan's voice was muffled as he landed ontop of it with a satisfied sigh. “But I think I might keep it.”
“What's that for?” Y/N asked with a laugh.
“It's a body pillow!” Chan said excitedly as he sat back up again. “I noticed you've been getting more and more uncomfy when you lay on your side … thought it might help. I mean, even though nothing is more comfy than my cuddles.”
Chan was grinning when Y/N burst into tears all over again.
“You're crying? Baby … what's the matter?” Chan asked, eyes wide as he cupped the back of Y/N's head. “You've been crying all day today. Are you okay?”
“I'm okay … “ Y/N sniffed hard, dropping her face into her hands. “I'm just so … emotional.”
“Already?” Chan teased. He placed a hand on her stomach, gently caressing the bump. “You're way more emotional than the first time.”
“I know,” Y/N said. It suddenly made her laugh, and her tears disappeared as laughter took a hold of her instead; it resulted in Chan erupting into a fit of giggles too, and soon they were leaning into each other, their bodies shaking as they tried their level best to stay as quiet as possible.
It took them a while to regain their composure. When they finally did, they fell into bed, Y/N's new pillow tucked into the curve of her body as Chan curled his arms around her from behind.
“How is it?” Chan hummed against Y/N's neck. He slipped his fingers underneath the hem of her t-shirt, his hands hot and immensely comforting as he laid them flat over Y/N's stomach.
The woman melted back into his bare torso as she pulled the long pillow towards herself. It was an ‘L’ shape, and as Y/N curled her knees around the lower portion of it, her eyes blurred.
“So comfy,” Y/N whispered. “Thank you.”
Chuckling at how adorable he was finding his wife, Chan propped himself up on his elbow and leaned down to kiss her temple.
“You're so cute,” Chan's voice was a dull buzz against Y/N's skin, and she smiled, snuggling further into the bed. “You know that?”
“Mmm … hear that, little one?” Y/N murmured as she patted her stomach. “Your daddy is calling you cute.”
Chan laughed as he laid back down again, his arms pulling her closer. “She is very cute. But I'm talking to you, Mrs Y/N Bahng.”
“What's that? I can't hear you … “ Y/N wrinkled her nose, and Chan let out another chuckle as he kissed the nape of her neck.
“I love you so much,” Chan whispered against her hair. “Really. Thank you for being mine.”
Y/N's voice wobbled when she replied. “Chris … you're going to make me cry again.”
He tickled her stomach with his fingertips as he grinned to himself. “What's new?”
*☆*☆*
It was too much.
Everything was too much.
Chan had left the house for a mere ten minutes; he had gone to pick up a few groceries, insisting to his wife that it was no bother, and that he'd much rather have her resting at home.
Y/N had agreed. But as soon as he had left the house, she had gotten up and started making her way around the house; she cleaned things that didn't need to be cleaned and she tidied things that didn't need to be tidied. Once she had run out of things to do, the sudden emptiness of the house had begun to feel overwhelming. There was a constant pain in her lower back, her bump felt too heavy, and for some strange reason, she was hyper aware of the old scars that littered her arms and thighs. She hadn't thought about those scars in a very, a very long time. But all of a sudden, it was all she could think about. Her mind grew dark, and her fingers grew tingly, her breath shortening as she leaned against the kitchen counter with spinning vision.
“Baby I'm home … “ Chan's voice was distant and Y/N tried to inhale deeply, attempting to reduce the rush of blood that was echoing in her ears. It didn't work, and her eyes were clenched shut when Chan entered the room.
“Baby?” Chan cocked his head to the side as worry flooded his warm eyes. When he got no response he sent his shopping bags down and quickly made his way to his wife, his hands soft on her arms as he made to look into her face. “Hey … what's the matter, baby girl? What's wrong?”
The softness of his words tipped Y/N over the edge; with the hitch of her breath, her eyes unleashed tears like two large fountains. Her entire body shudders as she sank her face into her hands, her elbows trembling against the kitchen counter.
Chan's eyes widened as he felt his heartstrings snap. His own eyes started to prickle as he placed a hand on Y/N's back, his touch ever so gentle as he started to rub soothing, stimulating circles.
“What's wrong, my baby?” Chan asked in a soft tone. He didn't want his wife to know just how much it hurt him to see her like this; Chan had no idea what was causing her to break down, but he wished in an instant that it was him who had to deal with the pain instead.
He wished he could take all of her suffering away. And it broke him knowing that he couldn't.
“I can't do it … I can't … I can't do it .. “ Y/N was whispering repeatedly, her breathing breaking off in sharp pieces.
“Can't do what, hmm?” Chan prompted slowly, his hand still warm on her back.
Standing up properly, Y/N looked at her husband with wild, red eyes. She looked utterly distraught, and Chan bit his lip as he felt another corner of his heart shatter.
“I can't have this baby,” Y/N gulped. Fat tears dribbled down her cheeks and splashed onto her sweatshirt as she kept speaking. “I can't do it, Chris. I'm going to be a terrible mother. I'm … she's going to hate me.”
With trembling fingers, Chan reached out and cupped Y/N's face. He swept her tear tracks away with wide eyes of his own. “She's not going to hate you, baby girl. She's going to love you. You're an incredible mother already … Noah adores you, baby.”
“But this is different,” Y/N was desperately shaking her head. “She's a girl. She's like me. What if I let her down? What if I let her down like … like … “
“ … Like how your mother let you down,” Chan finished gingerly. “Oh baby. Come here.”
His thumbs still caressing her wet cheeks, Chan leaned forward and kissed the woman's hot forehead with his plump lips. He then slipped his hand into hers and led her towards the sofa where he set her down softly.
“I just … I can't stop thinking about these,” Y/N swallowed thickly as she rolled her sleeves up. “I … what if I mess up and she ends up like me? What if she goes through what I did? What if … after everything … I treat her just like how my mother treated me? I can't do it, Chris. I can't bring a girl into the world knowing that she might go through this too. It would kill me.”
“She's not going to feel like that baby,” Chan inhaled deeply in an attempt to stabilise his own voice. “You are not your mother. Just because you share blood it doesn't mean you're anything like your parents. I know you're not. You're kind, and you're caring, and you're compassionate, and warm … Y/N, you're the best mother a baby could ever hope for.”
Lowering his head, Chan smoothed his fingers over his wife's scars before leaving soft, loving kisses over the raised tissue. The action was so tender that it filled Y/N's eyes with more tears.
“She's going to love you to pieces,” Chan whispered against her skin. “She's going to be so proud that her mother is incredibly strong, and brave, and so beautiful.”
Tears streaming down her cheeks again, Y/N dropped her head into the crook of her husband's neck. Chan smiled sadly as he slipped his arms around her shoulders, using his hands to briskly rub his heat through the material on her body.
“I know you, baby girl,” Chan whispered as he hugged his wife as best as he could despite the baby bump in between them. “You're going to be the mother that you always wanted. And you're going to experience that mother daughter bond you always wished you had. I know it. And if our daughter struggles? You'll be there for her, through everything.”
He looked down onto his wife with a smile that held so much reassurance that Y/N felt her knees might have buckled if she had still been standing up. “Have more faith in yourself, my baby girl. You're already doing so much better than you think you are, hmm? And baby … you're forgetting. You're not alone. I'm always gonna be here, yeah?”
Expecting Y/N to be somewhat comforted, Chan froze when she burst into another round of fresh tears.
Chan blinked slowly. He wondered how it was possible that she still had so many tears left.
“Baby … ?” Chan asked hesitantly.
“I'm just so lucky,” Y/N exploded, her face contorting. “You're the best husband ever. You do everything for me … you do so much, and you never make me do things, and you always help me with the chores, and you don't sit around on your butt all day like those stupid husbands who order their wives around like slaves, and you - g
Hearing her sudden teary ramble, Chan couldn't help it. He burst into quiet laughter and he bowed his head, his shoulders shaking as Y/N continued listing every good attribute that Chan possessed. He shook his head in fondness and reached for his wife's hands, lacing his fingers with hers.
“I know we joked about the baby getting a big head … “ Chan commented once Y/N had trailed off. “But what about my head? I can feel it growing.”
At that, Y/N giggled. Her eyes had started to sparkle again, and Chan curled himself around her as a sudden wave of adoration ran over him.
“My baby is so silly,” Chan giggled. He smoothed his hand over her hair, peppering her head with a trail of butterfly kisses. “I really do love you. So, so much. You know that, right? You know I'm never going anywhere, right?”
Sniffing hard, Y/N nodded against her husband's chest. They both fell into silence, Y/N slowly regulating her breathing again and Chan's hands soft as he cradled his wife in his arms. She seemed to be taking in his words, and Chan smiled to himself when he saw the colour had come back into her cheeks, and her fingers had stopped trembling.
He squeezed her hands softly in his warm grip. She squeezed his hands back in her way of saying thank you, and Chan chuckled as he kissed the side of her head.
“Chris?” Y/N said after a while.
“Hmm?”
Y/N wrinkled her nose. “My bump is really, really heavy.”
Chan started to chuckle. He leaned down and kissed the top of her stomach before getting up from the sofa. “Well, why didn't you say so before? Honestly Y/N, we could have fixed this earlier … “
Y/N watched as he shuffled towards his shopping bag. Chan pulled out a box and walked back with it, already half opening it on the way.
“I ordered this yesterday,” Chan explained as he pulled out a black garment. “I just went and picked it up along with the groceries. It's a maternity belt! I know you wanted to get one but you kept putting it off saying you were fine. And I know you're not fine, so … “
Y/N looked up at her husband with wide eyes. The man immediately kissed her forehead, before dashing to get her a glass of water. “Don't cry again! Baby, I love you, but you're going to get seriously dehydrated. Now come on … deep breath. And put this on.”
With the help of her husband, Y/N soon strapped the support around her stomach. As soon as the fastenings were in place, it was as though a tonne of bricks was lifted from her shoulders; she exhaled in relief before sinking back against the sofa cushions.
“I think I'm floating,” Y/N mumbled as she shut her eyes in comfort. All her crying had made her feel drowsy, and she smiled slowly when she felt Chan drape a blanket over her body.
“Well, continue floating in your dreams,” Chan grinned as he tucked the blanket around her shoulders. “I'm going to put the shopping away and then make some food for later. Go to sleep, baby girl.”
Already halfway there, Y/N vaguely nodded. The last thing she felt was a kiss to her cheek before exhaustion covered her in its darkness.

“What's on the list?” Chan asked as he peered over his wife's shoulder. He took a basket from the front of the shop as they entered, and Y/N reached for it.
“Give me that,” Y/N said.
Chan shook his head with a smile. “Nope.”
“Chris,” Y/N sighed, lunging for the basket.
“No,” Chan started to laugh as he moved the basket away from her. “You just focus on making sure we get everything. I'm the carrier.”
Y/N pouted. “But I can do it.”
“I'm sure you can. I'm still doing it,” Chan chuckled. “Come on. Do you need anything from this aisle?”
Nearing the end of her third trimester, Y/N had begun preparing for her labour. After scouring the internet for hours on end with her curious husband offering helpful pointers here and there, Y/N had compiled a list of things she wanted to take with her to the hospital. Even though it wasn't her first pregnancy, Y/N still felt as though she was still highly unprepared; Chan meanwhile had smiled. He knew deep down that his wife was more prepared than anyone else possibly could be.
“You have a bag, right?” Chan was asking now as he scanned the shelves with intrigue.
“Yeah I ordered one last night,” Y/N hummed. She reached for a few packets of cleansing wipes and dropped them into the basket. “It's … massive.”
Chan grinned. “I'm not surprised at all. Gotta have enough room for all those snacks … ”
“Ooh, we should get snacks actually,” Y/N placed a hand on her husband's arm as she realised his joke had a point. “They're so expensive in the hospital. And I should probably get some for home too … I think I might have to make a cart for the bedroom.”
Chan cocked his head to the side. “You're gonna have midnight snacks?”
“Well, probably,” Y/N grinned. “God knows how many hours I'll be up at night … It'll be handy to have some food nearby. We can get some for you too. I know for a fact you're not gonna sleep when I'm up.”
Chan grinned. He tossed a few boxes of painkillers into the basket, along with a bottle of aloe vera gel. Spotting witch hazel next to it, he grabbed a bottle and added it to the slowly growing pile.
“You know me too well, Mrs Bahng,” Chan hummed. “I'll never say no to snacks though. Even better if they're in bed.”
“Don't say anything else,” Y/N placed a finger over her husband's mouth. She saw the smirk that had begun to flicker on his face and the man started to chuckle, his nose red as he kissed her fingertip. She peered into the basket then, cocking her head to the side as she saw the things her husband added. “What are those for?”
“Didn't your friend say witch hazel and aloe is good for healing down there?” Chan asked. “Wait, she did say that, right?”
Y/N's eyes lit up in remembrance. “She did! I completely forgot.”
“Handy having doctors as friends, aye?” Chan chuckled. “I think half of the things on your list are recommendations from her anyway.”
“She's really excited, you know,” Y/N smiled as she read through her list again. “I didn't realise how many people would be this excited … it still doesn't feel real.”
“I know,” Chan agreed. “But at the same time … it does kinda?”
Grinning at her husband, Y/N moved towards the neighbouring aisle; she picked out a few more items, placing toiletries into the basket.
“Do you need stuff?” Y/N asked. “You're gonna be glued to my side for most of the time … you'll need a few things, no?”
“Nah, I'll be fine,” Chan shrugged. “What more could I possibly need when I'll have my lovely wife and baby with me?”
Y/N pulled a distasteful face. “Sappiness doesn't work this time, Mr.”
Chan stuck his lower lip out in a pout. “I guess a new toothbrush wouldn't hurt.”
“You're too humble for your own good, Christopher Bahng,” Y/N smiled and Chan couldn't help but kiss his wife on her cheek as he watched her.
Y/N flushed. “What was that for?”
“Dunno,” Chan shrugged happily. “Just felt like it.”
She waved two toothbrushes at him. “Blue or pink?”
“Blue,” Chan grinned like a little boy. “You can have the pink. Get the matching caps too.”
The couple wandered around the store, slowly conversing and gathering the items needed; it was the sort of activity that had begun to melt away the stress from Y/N's body, and she soon began to feel lighter.
It did, however, seem to be making her incredibly ravenous.
When Y/N's stomach growled louder the first two times, Chan cracked up with laughter in the middle of the shop. He discreetly placed a hand on her stomach as they waited in line to pay for their things, and he leaned closer to her as he murmured in his soft voice.
“Which one of you is hungry?” Chan grinned. “How long until you get hangry?”
Y/N rolled her eyes despite the smile that tickled her lips. “We're both hungry. I give it approximately ten minutes.”
“Far out,” Chan clicked his tongue.
Y/N slapped the back of his head lightly, and the man burst into hushed giggles.
“Okay, we'll go get food right after this,” Chan promised. They stepped forward in the shortening queue, and Chan slipped his hand into the pocket of his hoodie. “I have … a single boiled sweet. Nine out of ten chances that it's stuck to the wrapper.”
Taking the red sweet from her husband's hand with haste, Y/N immediately unwrapped it and placed it into her mouth. It was ever so slightly warm from the heat of Chan's pocket, but Y/N's hunger levels were so high that at that moment, the raspberry flavour was reminiscent of a five star meal.
“You're a lifesaver,” Y/N garbled around the sweet.
Chan smiled. “Is it good? Isn't it all melty?”
“Don't care,” shrugged. “Right now it's the best thing I've ever eaten in my whole life.”
Giggling at his wife, Chan kissed the top of her head and caressed the side of it softly before moving forward and placing their basket on the side of the till.
Once they were at home, Y/N gathered all her things and laid them out on the floor. Her hospital bag had also arrived while they were shopping, and she set it up next to her as she started sorting things into smaller travel bags. The TV played in the background in soft, dull tones, and Chan was sitting with his legs crossed in front of the coffee table. He had taken the jumbo sized sanitary pads Y/N had bought, and he was removing the individual pads from the packet and laying them out in front of him. The couple were focusing on their tasks in amicable silence, and it was Chan who broke it.
“I don't have a vagina,” Chan began. It was so sudden, and so random, that Y/N exploded with laughter.
“What?” Y/N wheezed.
Chan smiled as he unwrapped a single pad. He unscrewed the aloe vera and witch hazel bottles he had bought earlier, and the man started squeezing them over the pads. “I don't have a vagina. But if I had one, I'm pretty sure these would feel so good.”
Y/N giggled. She watched him wrap the saturated pad up again, sealing it with the sticker before setting it down into another pile to freeze later. “They're going to be so cold.”
“But that's the best part,” Chan grinned as he unwrapped another one. “It'll be so soothing.”
“I hope so,” Y/N shuddered as she remembered the pain after her first pregnancy. “Last time I thought my vagina was going to actually explode.”
Chan pulled a sympathetic face. “Well, hopefully these work. I mean, they should. They'll be cold, and they'll have witch hazel. You'll be fine.”
Y/N leaned back and watched her husband continue his task; she felt her heart melt with gratitude and affection for him with every passing moment. She hadn't even asked him to do it for her. He had taken the sanitary towels and bottles on his own accord, his own research fuelling his longing to help his wife as best as he could.
Wrinkling her nose as she felt tears burn the back of her eyes, Y/N looked down again towards her piles. She discreetly wiped her eyes with the back of her hands before focusing on her items. She had sectioned things into different categories: food, toiletries, clothes for her, clothes for the baby, medical items, and accessories.
“What are you taking for baby girl to wear?” Chan asked suddenly.
In response, Y/N held up a cream coloured one piece. It had a small illustration of a sleeping frog on the centre of it, and Chan started to chuckle.
“Isn't that the one Hannah got?” Chan reached for it, his dimples deepening as he ran his fingers over the soft material. “She's going to be so smug when she realises we're using this as our baby's first outfit.”
He handed it back to his wife before tilting his head to the side. “Still no names?”
Y/N sighed, folding the one piece up again and setting it on top of the small stack of cotton. “I really can't think of one. At all.”
“Me too,” Chan frowned. He folded up the last of the sanitary pads before snapping the lids of his bottles closed. He then shuffled towards his wife, his shoulder bumping hers as he leaned back against the bottom of the sofa. “None of the names feel right. I don't know why.”
“It'll come to us,” Y/N pursed her lips in thought. “Maybe. One day.”
“Can you imagine …” Chan started to laugh uncontrollably as he dropped his head against Y/N's arm. “ … If we never come up with a name? And we just call her baby girl for the rest of her life.”
Y/N started to smile. “I feel like you're going to call her that even if we did have a name for her.”
“No,” Chan's lips twitched. “Okay, maybe.”
He then flopped onto the floor with excitement, his eyes crinkling further as he placed a kiss on his wife's stomach.
“What do you wanna be called, baby girl?” Chan hummed, using a finger to tickle the skin of Y/N's bump. “Hmm? Can you come out for a minute and give us a name idea?”
As if on cue, the area Chan had his hand on moved; Chan's eyes widened as he gasped lightly, just as Y/N exhaled at the feeling.
“She's giving me ideas,” Chan said happily as he rubbed Y/N's stomach.
“And she's jabbing at my insides,” Y/N huffed. She slipped her hand into Chan's hair and gently tugged at his fluffy curls as he started dropping tender kisses to her stomach.
“I really, really can't wait,” Chan hummed. He looked up at his wife with wide, twinkling eyes. “I can't wait to meet her.”
Y/N was about to reply when the baby kicked again, harder than the last time. Both Y/N and Chan burst into laughter, Chan wrapping his arms around his wife in a gentle hug.
*☆*☆*
"Oh for the love of … " Y/N's voice trailed off in a broken whisper as she huffed to herself. She sat up in bed with enormous difficulty, her face contorting with the intensity of pressure that had been increasing over her lower back for the past few hours. She leaned back against the headboard, doing her best to stay quiet as her eyes dropped shut; Chan was asleep beside her, his hands curled around the edge of the duvet, the way they would have been curled around her waist if she had let him. Y/N smiled sadly. She knew he had wanted to cuddle her to sleep. But she also knew she'd have driven him crazy with her constant movements. Discomfort had crept up on her slowly throughout the day, and she had a feeling it was only to escalate throughout the night. There was no point in the both of them staying awake; at least this way Chan was able to sleep peacefully.
Y/N exhaled slowly as a tightening snaked around her stomach. She placed her hands over her bump, inhaling again as she mentally counted how long the feeling lasted.
Nearly a whole minute.
Groaning inwardly, Y/N reached over to her nightstand and sleepily felt around for her phone. She immediately recoiled when the bright blue slight slapped her in her face; scrambling to lower the brightness, Y/N rubbed her eyes and searched for her timer app.
A few moments later, she pressed start; the pressure had started to build up in the pit of her stomach again, and she turned to her side. She really didn't want to disturb her husband. As soon as the pain ended, she stopped the timer and slowly slipped out of bed.
It was a chilly morning, and Y/N shivered as she sank her feet into her slippers. Grabbing her phone, the woman shuffled out of the room with a laboured pace, and she headed straight down the stairs and into their living space.
Setting the lighting onto a low setting so as not to traumatise her vision again, Y/N moved towards the kitchen. She reached for the water jug and poured herself a small glass, her elbows leaning against the counter as she took small, thoughtful sips from it.
Just as she had set the glass down again, another cramp grew over her back and her stomach. She pushed up against the counter and lowered her head after starting her timer again, breathing slowly as she waited for the pain to pass.
"Baby?" Y/N looked up at the sound of a deep voice. Chan was yawning, and despite the pain, Y/N couldn't help but grin at the state of him. His left cheek was red and covered in lines from the creases of his pillow, and his hair stood up on one side like a small mountain. "Everything okay?"
Y/N tapped on the screen of her phone, stopping the timer again. "Okay, don't get excited, but - "
" - You're in labour?" Chan interrupted, his hands curling into excitable fists.
"I said don't get excited," Y/N laughed under her breath. She slid her phone over to him. "I think I'm having early contractions. I was timing them … they're pretty consistent."
Scrolling through the times on his wife's phone, Chan smiled. He then placed his warm hands on Y/N's stomach, his eyes wide and full of stars.
"Are we going to see you soon, baby girl?" Chan whispered, pressing a kiss to the bump. "Are you excited? I'm excited. I know your mummy said not to be excited but I'm excited."
"I only said not to get excited in case I'm not actually in labour," Y/N rolled her eyes, though she smiled as she slipped her fingers into the man's hair. "I can’t believe you woke up. I wanted you to stay asleep."
Chan frowned. "Why? Fancy driving to the hospital without me?"
"No, Stupid," Y/N laughed. "Just wanted you to get enough sleep. God knows how long this is going to go on for."
"Well, you don't have to worry," Chan smiled as he slid his arms around his wife's waist. He gently patted her bump as he kissed the woman's cheek. "I'm perfectly rested. And I want to be with you the whole time … you're not getting rid of me that easily, okay?"
"Okay," Y/N leaned back into the circle of her husband's arms. "Mr Bossy."
"Hey, It's Bahng, not Bossy," Chan laughed as Y/N started to giggle. "You're gonna confuse the baby."
Y/N grinned. "Nah. Noah is a very chill kid … I feel like this one is going to be an absolute menace. Maybe she'll call you bossy too."
Chuckling against Y/N's shoulder, Chan shook his head. "Don't put that out there into the universe. If she's a menace, it's going to be your fault, you know that right?"
Y/N was about to reply with another witty comment when another wave of pressure surged through her. Face crumpling slightly, Y/N detailed herself from her husband and leaned against the counter again.
"Another contraction?" Chan asked anxiously. "Let me get you some painkillers."
Y/N shook her head as she exhaled slowly. "No. Not yet. They're not that bad yet … don't want to reach my painkiller limit before the bad ones kick in."
Chan smiled softly as he admired his wife's bravery. Instead of getting the painkillers, the man placed his hand on the small of her back, gently rubbing along the width in warm, soothing, circles.
"Ooh your hand is so warm," Y/N groaned, as the pain ebbed away. She stood up and pushed her hair back; it was starting to get in the way, and she looked around in dismay to see there were no hair ties laying around.
She mentally kicked her earlier self. Perhaps she shouldn't have tidied the house like a personified vacuum cleaner the previous day.
But reading his wife's mind as usual, Chan rolled the cuff of his hoodie up. He giggled when Y/N's mouth dropped open in surprise as he pulled a hair tie off of his wrist.
"Look no further," Chan gently scooped Y/N's hair from around her shoulders. He smoothed the surface of her hair with his fingertips before gently tying it into a loose knot near the top of her head. "Channie is here to save the day."
"You're a legend," Y/N hummed as the man kissed the back of her now exposed neck. "What else do you have under that hoodie? Any snacks, perhaps?"
Chan wriggled his eyebrows.
"Alright, I walked straight into that one," Y/N grumbled as Chan broke into another fit of quiet giggles. "Oh God … here we go again."
Another five contractions later, Y/N stared at her husband. She was sitting on the fluffy rug in the middle of their floor, Chan beside her, but not too close.
"I think … " Y/N pursed her lips in thought. "I think, maybe I really am in labour."
"Ah, she finally admits it," Chan said as he scrolled through the timings on her phone. He held the screen up to her. "This not enough proof for you?"
"Oh, give me that," Y/N rolled her eyes and reached for her phone. "Might as well ring the hospital."
Chan nodded. He watched her intently the entire time, his gaze glued on her in a subtle way of teasing her.
Y/N resisted the urge to burst into laughter at the look on his face as she spoke into her phone. She turned around instead, ignoring his persistence as he tickled her side.
"What did they say?" Chan asked as soon as she ended the call.
"They said that annoying husbands have to stay at home," Y/N flicked him very lightly on the forehead, making his eyes crinkle as giggles escaped him all over again. "She told me to come in."
"I already put your bag in the car earlier, so that's good to go," Chan said. "Unless you have more things to add … ?"
Y/N shook her head. "I don't think so. Just my phone. What are we going to do with Noey?"
"Well mum said to call her whenever and she'll come get him," Chan immediately said.
"It's way too early though," Y/N rubbed her forehead. “Your dad might still be so deep in sleep that he's pretending to work out again.”
At that, Chan burst into laughter. “I still can't believe he does that. But … you know they won't mind, right? You know how much mum loves Noey. And how much she loves you," Chan smiled, reaching out to caress his wife's head. He stuck his tongue out at her then, rolling his eyes. "I think she might love you more than she loves me."
"Don't say that," Y/N grinned. "She loves you so much."
Chan dropped his head against her shoulder with another happy smile. "Yeah. I know."
A few moments later, Chan went in search for his phone in order to call his mother, and Y/N flopped back onto the ground with a laborious sigh. Her lower back was aching much more than she had anticipated, and she suddenly felt very decrepit; it was almost funny, she thought, as she turned onto her side.
"She'll be over soon," Chan' voice was soft as he settled down onto the ground beside her again. "All we have to do is wait now."
"How fun," Y/N grumbled, another contraction sparking inside of her. Chan giggled as he patted her back. His face lit up suddenly, and once his wife's pain was over, he scrambled up from the ground.
"One second. I know how we can pass the time," he grinned before running out of the room.
Y/N shook her head fondly as she watched him go. She patted her stomach. "What's your daddy up to now, huh?"
Chan returned a split second later. His face was almost hidden by the large pile of wrapped up objects he was carrying in his arms, and Y/N's mouth dropped open in confusion and surprise as he dropped them down infront of her.
"I got you push prezzies!" Chan chuckled as he sat down beside her again for the third time. "I almost forgot."
Y/N touched the wrapping paper lightly. It was black, true to her husband's style, but it glimmered with sparkly stars under the dim lighting of their room.
"You got me presents?" Y/N asked slowly, her vision blurring. "Christopher … what?"
"You know I love getting you things," Chan smiled, leaning back on his hands.
"Yes but … Chan you didn't have to - "
"Oh, shush," Chan cut her off with a soft kiss to her lips. He caressed her face with a hand, placing another kiss to her pink nose. "Just open them."
Wrinkling her nose at him, Y/N shook her head as she reached for the present on top of the pile. "I always feel so silly, getting presents."
"That's because you've always had bad experiences," Chan hummed. "You know I'm going to keep getting you them until you're used to it. And then I'll get you even more."
"You're insane," Y/N giggled, rubbing a hand across her eyes. She leaned to her side and kissed the smiling man on his cheek. "Thank you."
"You haven't even opened them yet," Chan laughed. "Don't thank me yet."
Grinning at him, Y/N began to unwrap the first present. She was careful with the paper, not wanting to tear it; Chan watched her with tender eyes as she took her time, and he couldn't resist loosely sliding his arms around her waist.
“You're so clingy,” Y/N giggled. “You're lucky I'm cold.”
Chuckling, Chan kissed her neck. “You're cold?”
“Yeah,” Y/N pulled a small box out of the wrapping paper. “Cold sweats.”
Chan didn't reply. Instead, he kissed her cheek, secretly smiling against her skin.
Opening the box, Y/N felt her lips curve into a smile. Nestled against a cushion of dark velvet was the daintiest of silver chains; it sparkled pink and blue under the light as Y/N took it out, her fingers gentle on the group of small star pendants hanging from the centre of it.
“A star for all of us,” Chan laughed shyly as she squeezed her in a soft hug. “I know you don't like bulky things … I thought this was pretty subtle, no?”
Tearing up all over again, Y/N wiped the back of her hand over her eyes. When she didn't respond, Chan peered around her to see the expression on her face.
He chuckled. “Are you crying?”
“No,” Y/N sniffed. “Something in my eye.”
Peppering her temple with kisses, Chan held his hand out to her. “Let me put it on you.”
He took the necklace and gently fastened it around his wife's neck; smiling at the way it glimmered against her skin, the man kissed her shoulder before replacing his arms around her again.
“Open that one next,” Chan pointed to a fat present.
“Why?” Y/N asked curiously. It was squishy, and she looked up at his happy face. “What is it?”
“Just open it,” Chan grumbled.
Doing as she was told, Y/N removed the wrapping paper, revealing what looked like a neatly folded shadow. She immediately knew what it was, and she snorted with quiet laughter as she held up the heavy material to the light.
“You got me a hoodie?” Y/N asked with a large grin. “What's the occasion?”
“Well, I thought … maybe … it might be cosy for you when you're in labour … I mean, not when you're actually in labour - might be too hot,” Chan rubbed the nape of his neck. “But it's cold these days. Thought it'd come in handy. I mean, you literally just said you were cold … “
Lifting the hoodie to her face, Y/N buried her face. She frowned. It had that new-bought smell, and she looked up at her husband.
“It doesn't smell like you,” she stated in dismay.
“That's good, isn't it?” Chan snorted. “I thought you hated my scent?”
“Not anymore, you fool,” Y/N groaned. “That was just at the beginning. I wasn't myself, Chan. Besides … have my past few months of clinging onto you meant absolutely nothing?”
Chan laughed at her gormless expression. He squeezed her shoulders and kissed her cheek before spotting the glint in her eye. The man shook his head. “Want me to wear it until we get to the hospital?”
Nodding eagerly, Y/N placed the hoodie into his hands. The man took it and yanked the hoodie he was already wearing over his head.
He held it out to his wife. “Wear this.”
“What's the point of getting me a new hoodie?” Y/N giggled as she snuggled into her husband's garment. “I could have just borrowed one of yours.”
“Yeah, but I wanted you to have a new one,” Chan' voice was muffled as he slipped the new hoodie over his head. “And then in the future whenever you see this hoodie you'll be like … oh, I wore this when I was in labour. Ooh … this is a nice hoodie.”
The man held his arms out, examining the sleeves. He wiggled his fingers in satisfaction. “The sleeves are long enough. That's rare.”
“You keep it then,” Y/N smiled as she leaned back into him. “I'll wear this one.”
“No,” Chan kissed the top of her head. “Open the rest of your presents.”
Y/N went through the rest of the pile, the couple giggling and cuddling each other the entire time. Once she had opened them all and was feeling overwhelmed with love, Chan slipped his fingers into the pocket of his hoodie that Y/N was wearing.
“Last one,” Chan laughed. He placed a small piece of card into her hand, and Y/N looked down in curiosity.
It was what appeared to be a ticket; definitely drawn by her husband, the card was decorated in the goofiest illustrations Y/N had ever seen, and reading the bubbly words printed in the middle, she started to laugh.
“An unlimited use ticket?” Y/N questioned her husband. “What's this for?”
“It's for whenever you want me to do something for you,” Chan chuckled. “You can use the ticket. And I'll do it.”
“You already do everything for me,” Y/N whined. She could feel her eyes clouding over again, and she hastily shook her head to clear her vision. She slipped the card into her husband's hand. “Keep it for now or I'll cry all over it.”
“Oh, we can't have that,” Chan shook his head as he placed the ticket back into his pocket. “I spent ages drawing this.”
Y/N peered up at him. “Really?”
“Nah. Five minutes.”
The both of them erupted into a quiet fit of giggles. Y/N gasped a short moment later, pulling her hood down her head as a contraction stretched across her stomach.
*☆*☆*
“Oh my God … baby please, please, please don't give birth on the seat,” Chan was anxious as he spun the steering wheel in his nimble fingers. He looked towards his wife with worrisome eyes; Y/N had her hand pressed up against the dashboard, her breathing deep.
“Who knows what kind of germs are in here,” Chan continued. “I don't think baby girl being born in here would be convenient.”
At that, Y/N let out a hoarse chuckle. “I thought you meant you didn't want to get the seats dirty.”
Chan tutted as he spun the wheel in his hand. He was trying to drive as fast as he could; but being a careful driver at heart, he really couldn't drive faster than an extra five miles per hour. “I don't care about the seats. They can be cleaned. I care about you and the baby.”
Sinking back into the heated seat as her pain ebbed away, Y/N reached out and gently caressed the back of her husband's head. He was wearing his favourite cap, and Y/N smiled at the familiarity of the clasp against her fingers.
“You're a good man,” Y/N hummed. “My waters haven't broken yet though.”
“Well, never say never,” Chan laughed. He turned his head to the side and kissed his wife's palm. “My little superhero.”
They soon arrived at the hospital car park. Chan drove around for a few minutes before slotting his car into a free space. His brow was creased with concentration, and Y/N couldn't help but smooth her fingers over his forehead, removing the lines.
“Stop stressing,” Y/N said softly. Chan’ face was warm as he smiled against her touch. “Everything's gonna be okay.”
“I know,” Chan hummed. He switched his car off and leaned across to his wife, cupping her head as he kissed her forehead. “I know.”
Chan helped his wife out of the car. His hand was incredibly warm and reassuring as he slipped his fingers in-between hers, and the man reached for Y/N's hospital bag from the back of the car before locking up behind him.
It must have been due to the obscure time; it didn't take long for Y/N to check in before she was taken to a triage room. She sat on the bed as Anna, Y/N's midwife, began to wash her hands.
After her blood pressure, temperature, and pulse was taken, Y/N laid back against the bed as she rolled the hemline of her hoodie up and over her bump.
“I'm just going to check how baby is laying … how often are you getting pains?” the midwife asked as she pressed Y/N's stomach with her hands.
Y/N shivered at the sudden contact, cold seeping through her skin. Anna started to laugh, an apologetic look crossing her eyes. “Sorry love. Cold hands.”
Y/N smiled. “It's okay. I'd say like … every five to ten minutes?”
Nodding, Anna changed the directions of her hands as she felt around Y/N's bump. “Ooh … is that one there? I can feel it.”
Y/N exhaled heavily as a contraction washed over her. It robbed her momentarily of her words, and the woman focused on regulating her breathing as she waited for it to pass.
“Add another one to the list,” Y/N huffed, and from beside her, Chan started to laugh. He smoothed the girl's hair away from her clammy forehead, completely and utterly in awe as he gazed down at his wife.
“You're making your contractions look easy,” Anna laughed as she reached for a small device. “Let's check baby's heartbeat now, hmm?”
It didn't take long; the static sound of the baby's heartbeat filled the room, and only Y/N could hear the slight hitch of Chan's breath with his sudden excitement.
She smiled.
“Have your waters broken yet?” Anna asked.
Y/N shook her head. “No.
“Am I okay to give you an internal examination?”
Nodding, Y/N looked up at Chan with a soft smile while the midwife moved towards the end of the bed. Y/N's face soon contorted comically as she felt her insides being stretched out in a strange fashion, and as she locked eyes with Chan's, she had to resist the urge to burst into laughter.
It was such a bizarre situation to be in that Chan looked as though he was trying to keep his amusement buried beneath the surface too.
“Well, looks like you're already three centimetres dilated,” Anna said a moment later as she retracted her hand from in-between Y/N's legs. “Your waters will probably break soon … baby seems happy, and you're doing nicely. Just keep staying calm if you can, it helps bring everything on.”
Shortly after, Y/N was given a room on the labour ward. Hand in hand with her husband, she made her way to the room; she was incredibly relieved that her labour seemed to be progressing enough that she wasn't to be sent home.
“Hey … Isn't this the same room as last time?” Chan suddenly started to laugh as he walked over to the window. “It is! My drawing is still here.”
Y/N's laughter was muffled against her hood as she bent a little over the bed, slightly out of breath. “I told you not to draw on there. Can you imagine what the cleaners thought?”
Chan giggled as he ran his fingertip over his miniscule drawing near the edge of the window pane. “They'd have wondered what this distinguished looking ladybird was doing here.”
Whipping his phone out from his pocket, Chan quickly snapped a photo of his creation. He then turned the camera, managing to take a few lighthearted selfies before turning it off again.
“What are the odds, aye? Same room, same drawing … same husband … “
Y/N was sitting on the edge of the hospital bed, drinking water when her husband spoke; her eyes widened and she immediately choked at the last statement, a shocked laugh escaping her mouth in the form of bubbles.
Chan's high pitched laughter filled the room as he dashed over to his wife, his eyes wide.
“I'm sorry baby,” Chan wheezed, taking the bottle from Y/N's grip and setting it on a small table. He gently patted her back, his whole body shaking as he continued to laugh. “I was joking.”
“I know,” Y/N breathed, thumping her chest. “Don't do that again while I'm drinking.”
“Sorry,” Chan apologised again as he kissed her forehead. “I won't do it again. While you're drinking. Can't promise about when you're not drinking, though.”
Giggling at her husband, Y/N suddenly let out a puff of air. Her face contorted and she placed a hand on the base of her stomach; realising there was so way she could sit properly through this contraction, the woman kneeled down onto the floor and smushed her face into the bed.
Sitting down beside his wife, Chan's eyes were tender. He rubbed Y/N's lower back with a firmer pressure than before, and he pressed a kiss to her shoulder.
“That's it, baby,” Chan murmured softly. “Keep breathing slowly. You're doing so well.”
Once Y/N had sat up prowley again, her face was red. She inhaled deeply, pushing her hair back. “Doing well? Not doing … stream?”
Chan stood up suddenly and walked away with his tongue pressed up against his cheek. “I'm done.”
Out of breath but full of giggles, Y/N rested her hand on her bump as she watched her husband place his hands on his hips, his stance in front of the large window incredibly amusing. He looked like a middle aged woman, and the melodramatic expression on his face only seemed to be amplified by the shadows casted by the room's lights.
It made Y/N grin. She wasn't sure if she would be feeling as good as she was if her husband wasn't there with her.
“What?” Chan smiled.
Y/N shrugged. “Just thinking about how lucky I am to have you.”
“Aw … “ padding over to his wife, Chan sat down on the bed and slid his arm around her shoulders. “I'm very, very lucky to have you too.”
Instantly dropping her head against Chan's shoulder, Y/N smiled. There was something about being in his arms that instantly lifted her spirits; it was as though he was her charging port, and as soon as her touched her she was filled with energy and all her pain seemed to subside.
“Thank you for being my life sized painkiller,” Y/N hummed against Chan's arm.
Chan grinned. He placed his other arm around her and kissed her temple, his nose tickling her cheek with another kiss.
“Not a very good painkiller,” Chan sighed. “I wish I could take every single bit of pain away from you … for good.”
Looking into her husband's eyes with her own, Y/N felt her face melting into an affectionate smile. She leaned forward and kissed his nose just as another contraction bloomed inside of her.
The next few hours passed slowly. It was warm inside the room as the sun shone shone directly at Y/N through the window, and she had discarded her husband's hoodie. Instead she replaced it with one of the hospital's paper thin garments, Chan rolling the hoodie up and using it as a small cushion.
To pass the time, Chan and Y/N had begun a round of Uno. It had resulted in an energetic laughing battle, one where tears streamed from Chan's eyes as he slammed cards down onto the bed.
“Wait,” Y/N gasped, her entire body shaking as she fought to stop laughing. “Wait … I need to pee.”
Chan stuck his tongue out at her. “How convenient.”
Giggling all over again, with the help of Chan's steady hands, Y/N slipped off of the bed. She was about to move towards the bathroom when she felt liquid trickling down the insides of her thighs, and her eyes widened when it splashed onto the floor.
Chan blinked. He placed his other cards down beside him. “Well. There go the waters.”
*☆*☆*
Y/N scrunched her face up in silent agony. She pushed back against the pillow on the bed, her back feeling as though it was collapsing in on her and her stomach feeling as though it was compressing her organs.
Anna removed her gloves from her hands and offered Y/N a sympathetic smile. “Good news! You're fully dilated. You can start pushing soon … “
Y/N smiled weakly. She had just been checked again: blood pressure, baby's heartbeat, and then how far her cervix had dilated. She was feeling dizzy, her body constantly transitioning from too cold to too hot in her thin hospital gown.
Outside, the sky had taken on a hazy blue as day began to turn into night; streaks of orange and magenta melted into the horizon, following the disappearing sun. Stars were already twinkling above, the warm day suddenly feeling chillier than it had in the morning.
“How are you feeling, baby?” Chan murmured as he pulled a chair up to the side of Y/N's bed. He had been standing for most of the time since his wife's waters had broken; whether it was refilling her water, or getting things from her hospital bag, or just being there for her by stroking her hair away from her forehead and kissing her nose - Chan had been on his feet. He didn't want to admit that his back was aching when his wife was in so much more pain than he was. But he decided to sit down anyway, realising he would be of no use to his wife if he was indisposed too.
“Hungry,” Y/N breathed, reaching for the gas and air. Chan watched with soft eyes as she breathed into the mouthpiece, inhaling a few times before moving her head again. “Really, really hungry.”
Chan grinned. He stretched his hand into her free hand, entangling his warm hand with her sweaty one, and he pressed kisses to the back of her knuckles.
“As soon as you're done, you can have whatever you want,” Chan hummed, resting his cheek against her hand. “I promise.”
“Sounds good,” Y/N winced, shifting ever so slightly in the bed. “God … I forgot how bad this hurt.”
Chan looked worried. “You should have had an epidural, baby.”
Y/N immediately shook her head. “No. Didn't want wobbly legs. I already feel sick … it'd probably have made me feel worse.”
Nodding sadly, Chan wracked his brains for another solution. “Pethidine?”
“It's too late now,” Y/N breathed heavily as another contraction ripped its way through the lower portion of Y/N's body. She shut her husband out for a moment, closing her eyes and focusing on her breathing as a way to distract her from the roaring pain. “It might mess up her heartbeat. And it takes longer to work. It's fine … I'm fine … this gas and air is … good … ow.”
Writhing in more pain, Y/N turned her face to the gas and air again. Her entire face was creased, from her brows to her chin as she tried her level best to not scream.
She knew that giving into screaming would only deplete her energy levels even faster.
“You're doing so well, baby girl,” Chan murmured against her hand. “You're so strong. Do you feel like pushing yet?”
“I think so,” Y/N breathed heavily. “Anna … I think I need to push.”
“Alright, I'm coming,” Anna called from the other side of the room. She soon returned to the edge of the bed, and after checking Y/N, Anna prompted the woman to start pushing.
“Okay, push as hard as you can on your next contraction … “ Anna instructed. “Use all of the contraction … deep breath, and then push.”
Nodding at Anna's instruction, Y/N squeezed her husband's hand tightly. As soon as she felt her next construction blooming, Y/N inhaled deeply, and then tucked her chin into her chest as she pushed with her lower body.
The pain was tremendous. It felt as though Y/N's lower half was on fire; a whimper left her lips despite her trying not to make a sound, and she soon sunk back against the pillow as she fought to regain her breath.
She pushed again a few moments later. Chan's hand was firm in hers, not minding at all when she clutched on his fingers hard enough to almost crush his bones. Instead his face was one of utmost love and belief in his wife; every time Y/N looked into his eyes after a long push, she felt her body automatically refill with enough energy to get through the next push.
It was bizarre. There was something about the way Chan's eyes twinkled under the shadow of his cap; it made Y/N momentarily forget the pain that threatened to break her in half.
“That's it … “ Anna said as Y/N pushed again. “All the way into your bottom … there we go.”
Y/N gasped for air. She reached for her tube of entonox, and breathed it in deeply, fighting for any sort of pain relief.
Not for the first time did Y/N mentally curse herself for not getting the epidural. Even if she did despise the thought of having numb legs after.
“Good girl,” Chan was whispering now, one of his hands smoothing the beads of perspiration away from her forehead. He smiled down at her as she breathed heavily, her cheeks red. “Keep going, baby. You're so close.”
Y/N shut her eyes for a moment. Everything hurt; her head was sore from how hard she was pushing, her eyes stung, her entire lower portion felt as though it was being pulled apart, cell by cell. It was hot, it was cold, the room was too big, the room was too small … her senses were in overload, and suddenly, there was only one thing Y/N wanted.
Christopher.
“Chris … “ Y/N whispered feebly.
Chan leaned forward, caressing her head. “Hmm?”
“Can you … sit behind me?” Y/N asked him slowly.
Chan's eyes widened. “Really? Are you sure? I … won't I get in the way?”
“You won't,” Y/N breathed, gripping his hand. “I … I can't do this without you.”
Looking towards the midwife, Chan tilted her head towards her in question. Anna nodded with a smile, before looking down again to see how far Y/N was getting.
Nodding once at Y/N, Chan leaned down and kissed her forehead before hooking his arms under hers ever so slightly. He helped her into a sitting position before carefully sliding into the small space behind her. Pulling Y/N back so her back was flush against his chest, Chan wrapped his arms around her body, resting them just above her bump; he reached for her hands and tangled them firmly with hers.
“Comfy?” Chan asked, smoothing his thumbs over Y/N's hands. He kissed the back of her neck as he used his body to cushion her as best as he could.
Y/N nodded. Hearing his voice vibrate through his chest and into her back was strangely soothing; she leaned back into him, shutting her eyes and breathing in the familiar scent of her home for a moment before pushing again.
It felt easier this time; perhaps it was the slight elevation in position, or the fact that Chan was sat behind her and providing her a constant stream of comfort. But Y/N pushed harder, her fingers curling around Chan's forearms tightly.
She vaguely had the thought that she might be leaving bruises along the stretch of his soft skin. But Chan didn't once act like he was in pain, instead rubbing the top of her stomach and leaving kisses wherever he could, his voice constant and soft and reassuring against her ear.
“Keep pushing, keep pushing, keep pushing … the head is almost out!” Anna said suddenly, her fingers braced against Y/N's thighs. “I want you to push with all your strength on the next contraction. Can you do that, sweetie?”
Y/N nodded tiredly. She looked up at Chan, who was beaming down at her with pride.
“She's almost here!” Chan grinned against Y/N's cheek. “I'm so proud of you baby. You're doing so, so well.”
At that, Y/N smiled. She inhaled deeply, tucking her head under Chan's. He enveloped her with his embrace, and with a large breath, Y/N pushed with all her might.
The entire portion of her in-between Y/N's legs burned with white hot fire; she squealed under her breath as she felt her skin stretch, and as soon as she stopped pushing, Anna grinned widely.
“The head is born! Little pushes now, sweetie … I want you to pant and give gentle pushes … “
Doing as she was told, Y/N regained her breath again. She then pushed slowly, chest rising and falling as she breathed in short pants, each breath a puff of air against Chan's fingers.
“Keep going, keep going … almost there … “
When the high pitched sound of cries suddenly filled the room, Y/N fell back against her husband in shock. It was as though her pain over the last day was a large bubble; it had been growing, and growing, and growing, deepening the further she got into her labour. The bubble seemed to pop and shatter upon the first cry - all Y/N's pain seemed to fall away and her eyes filled with tears as the midwife handed their baby to her, her wriggling suddenly all too real and all too surreal on the skin of Y/N's chest.
“Hi baby … “ Y/N crooned as tears splashed onto her husband's arms. Her fingers trembled as she cupped the baby's blood stained fingers, her eyes welling up further. “Oh my gosh … “
She couldn’t speak anymore; tears kept spilling out of her eyes as she stared at the baby, every manner of emotion flooding through her. Shock, happiness, gratitude, love, worry, anxiety, relief, pain … they were all there, and all she could do was watch vaguely as Chan's fingers brushed against hers and their baby's in wonder. She didn't even notice herself pushing out her placenta, the midwife collecting it and moving it away; she was too dazed as she watched the baby cry and wave her hands up at her parents.
“She's so beautiful,” Chan sniffed from behind his wife. “Oh baby … I'm so proud of you.”
Just then, Anna approached them again and she smiled widely as she leaned over to clamp the baby's umbilical cord.
“Congratulations!” she said with a cheer. She then handed a pair of medical scissors to Chan. “You're cutting the cord, I'm guessing?”
“Oh wow … me?” Chan was suddenly bamboozled; he laughed nervously as he took the scissors from her, gently untangling one of his arms from his wife. “Okay … here?”
“Just there,” Anna pointed to the small section in-between the cord.
Chan's hand was trembling as he lined the scissors up with the cord. As soon as he cut through it he grinned, and he handed it back to the midwife as he sank back against the bed in relief.
“I'm just going to take baby from you and get her all cleaned up … “ Anna then said, reaching for the baby. “Does she have a name?”
“Not yet,” Y/N grinned, dropping her head back against Chan's. He immediately kissed her forehead, hugging her softly. “We couldn't decide.”
Anna smiled at that. She then took the baby and began cleaning her gently before wrapping her in a small, warm towel.
Y/N peered up at her husband with an exhausted, but happy smile. Chan was rubbing tears away from his eyes and he giggled; his cap had fallen off and laid on the floor, his hair just as disarrayed as his wife's was.
*☆*☆*
It was a few hours later, and Y/N had managed to get a short nap. She now sat up in her bed with her arms cradled around their baby, Chan sat beside her with his arms around her. He was a giggling mess as he peered down at their daughter, his index finger every now and then tickling the very tip of her nose with his gentle touch.
“She looks like you,” Chan hummed as he kissed Y/N's temple.
Y/N grinned. She watched in fascination at how their baby's mouth was latched onto her breast, her little fists every now and then moving up and down.
“I was going to say she looks like you,” Y/N said. “She definitely has your eyes.”
“Really? They're definitely your eyes … so much more beautiful,” Chan chuckled.
Y/N shook her head as she leaned into him. “Christopher.”
“Okay, okay,” Chan kissed her forehead again. “ she has one of each. One of my eyes, and one of yours.”
Y/N started to giggle at that; it was a mistake for she winced suddenly, feeling a slight twinge in between her legs.
“Maybe,” Y/N smiled. She looked up at her husband with loving eyes; the thin skin around her eyes was red from pushing for so long, but her face was one of joy, and genuine affection. “Thank you. For helping me. With everything”
“Aw … baby,” Chan leaned down and kissed her lips softly. He smiled against her mouth, leaning his forehead against hers. “You don't have to thank me. I'm your husband … of course I was gonna help.”
Y/N felt her own lips curve into a smile. She kissed him again before dropping her head into the crook of his neck. Their daughter pulled away from Y/N's chest; Y/N gently patted her back, rubbing small circles.
“You hold her,” Y/N hummed, outstretching her arms.
Chan sat up immediately. He carefully took the baby and his face shone with joy as he cradled her against the curves of his arms.
“Hi baby,” Chan hummed in a slow voice. He couldn't keep the smile off of his face as he leaned down and kissed her nose. “Who's the cutest little baby girl ever, hmm? Who's my pretty baby?”
He continued to talk in the softest of baby voices to her, and Y/N watched in growing fondness at the interaction.
The baby blinked. She tilted her head ever so slightly in Chan's arms.
“What is she looking at?” Y/N started to laugh.
Both Chan and Y/N tried to follow their baby's gaze; their eyes landed on the window looking out onto the outside.
Neither of them had released how long it had been. The sun was on the cusp of rising, and the sky was painted the most beautiful of violet, the stars still shimmering down on the earth with their iridescent glow.
The baby's eyes were wide and round like saucers, her vision glued to the outside world. Her fingers curled into fists and she moved them around ever so slightly as Y/N held onto her, and Chan suddenly started to laugh.
“Is she looking at … the sky?” Chan asked, looking back to the window. “Do you like the sky, baby girl? Is it pretty?”
The baby gurgled. She blinked hard, looking up at her father before looking towards the sky again.
Y/N and Chan both slowly swivelled their eyes to one another.
Y/N's lips twitched with a smile. “Well … looks like maybe we finally have a name … “
Chan was already nodding. “Haneul Bahng? … Sky?”
At that, Sky looked up at him. She outstretched her hand, her fingers curling around the man's nose with the softest of grips.
