The remains of Kay's Cottage, part of the Kay Environmental Center property in Chester, #NewJersey. Elizabeth D. Kay (1894-1987) and her husband Alfred were known for their contributions to horticulture, conservation, humanitarian causes, and the arts. Their property, Hidden River Farm, was donated for use as a park and environmental center. The Kay’s made carriage trails through fields and woods that wind down to the Black River where a dam was built to create a swimming pool with a diving board. A summer house was built (can't find a year but probably around the 1930s) alongside the ‘pool’ with showers, changing rooms, a fireplace, and a terrace. Only the ruins remain today. #nj #njhistory #SpreadTheHistory #historygirl #chester #chesternj #abandoned #ruins #deserve2preserve #kayscottage #nature #blackriver #beautiful_decay #thisisnj #jerseycollective #njspots #explorenj #igersnj #ushistory #americanhistory #ipulledoverforthis #travelblog #travelblogger #blog #blogger #beautiful #morriscountynj #woods (at Kay Environmental Education Center)
