A quick update for those playing along at home. We're still safe and have not been evacuated. The weather kept the fire from spreading much over the past several days, though it is now over 102,000 acres. There are over 1,400 firefighters and support staff here, and they've spent the past several days building lines to hold the fire off. Now the weather is starting to shift again, so hopefully those lines hold until the weather shifts back.

I feel like I should explain my continued absence, and in this case a picture is worth a thousand words. Or four pictures in this case. These pictures were all taken on the same day (Sunday) at 10 am, noon, 2:30 pm, and 3 pm. No filters, no Photoshop. There’s a massive wildfire bearing down on us and it quadrupled in size over 4 days and is now over 98,000 acres in size. We’re safe for now, but we have our bags packed and are watching the situation carefully. I’m not going to lie, the stress is wearing on me.

I’m going to get on my soapbox for a moment, so please bear with me. I’m frustrated as hell right now.

As some of you know, I’m right smack in the middle of a wildfire. As of right now it is almost 108,000 acres large, about 5 miles away from town, and has 0% containment. It’s the largest fire in the country and we have over 1,600 firefighters and support personnel here trying like hell to keep it out of town, and they certainly have their work cut out for them since the weather conditions are ideal for fire-spread. Humidity is low, winds are high, and there’s too much smoke for air support.

If you know this, you are among the few. Despite all of this, there has been zero national coverage. Thousands have been displaced, thousands more are waiting on the edge of their seats for an evacuation notice. People hundreds of miles away are suffering from breathing issues from the smoke, and air quality here in town is firmly in the hazardous zone. Yet there is no coverage. 

The estimated containment date is October 15th, yet there is no coverage.

School start has been pushed back until Sept. 12 at the earliest, yet there is no coverage.

I understand there is a lot going on in this country right now - a lot going on in the world... but we feel completely forgotten.

Send thoughts of relief and healing to my state of Oregon right now

The state is practically on fire with several major wildfires spreading quickly due to winds. A kid set off a firework in the Columbia River Gorge (Eagle Creek) and the fire has made its way to the world famous Multnomah Falls (8-10 miles from the start of the fire). My state has just recovered from the Tillamook Burn which wiped out an entire forest decades ago.
