And the Chickadee nest is also doing well. Mister Chickadee is a very good provider and brings the Mrs. snacks to the box constantly. I like the green ones, they look like juicy candy 😆 and I wonder how in the world they manage to find all these insects when everything is green and lush and their prey is so tiny!

A little update on Momma Chickadee - she is still incubating her eggs, keeping them evenly warm and turning them every so often. This morning, she got spooked by a Robin that must have sat on the box, and now we know there are actually seven eggs! The male brings her snackies, so all is well. I have added her to the livestream on my YT channel today, if you want to check on her.
And with that, nesting season has officially begun here. It did two days ago, on the exact same date as the last time in '23, April 14. I am super duper happy that they chose this box and hope that everything goes well. This little lady has a lot of work ahead of her with that big box. Things have been a bit slow, I think because of the rain, but I put some dry moss out for her and hopefully the weather improves. We may see baby Chickadees again ❤️
It remains frosty outside but the Chickadees have been visiting the nestboxes every day. They do seem to be more interested in this one and have kind of started to "measure for drapes".In 2024 when they used this box last, they started building on April 14th. I hope they nest here again, they are so much fun to watch. Bluebirds are making themselves rare, but I am hearing them.
They are compact, diligent, vocal, adorable little guys who visit feeders year-round and will also nest in the most unusual spots like garden pumps (check my feed for videos from this summer) - Blackcapped Chickadees. I love these birds, and I am so happy to see them every day. I chose this photo for the calendar because I thought the pose was just too cute and showed off their big personality. (Calendars are still on sale until the 3rd.)
The Chickadee babies are 6 and 5 days old, and have grown a lot (even if that's barely visible). I am happy that all of them are alive. Both parents deliver a steady stream of insects, and mom is keeping them warm.
They nurture, they nourish, they care and love - they deserve our respect, appreciation and love every day but a little extra today. A Happy Mother's Day to all mothers and mother figures. Thank you for all you do, we are so lucky to have you ❤️
