Eleanor, at the end of Season 3 after Chidi had his memory erased, asks Janet to tell her the answer.
And Janet looks her with such sympathy and sadness.
I just realised why.
Because of Chidi's note.
Chidi has just given Janet a note that reads "There is no 'answer'. But Eleanor is the answer."
And then Eleanor almost immediately asks Janet 'hey, tell me the answer'.
Ugh, this show is so well written.

In the finale table read, you see that they originally had Eleanor give up on reading What We Owe to Each Other at the start, and only finish it at the restaurant with Chidi, right before her "working out the terms of moral justification is an unending task" line. And I'm very glad that they changed it, so that she finished the book at the start of the episode, because her resolution to let Chidi go wasn't an epiphany that was brought about by finishing the book. She didn't just learn it was the right thing to do, she'd always known it was; she just couldn't bring herself to admit it. Seeing him sitting across from her, doing his best to be present when he didn't want to be, only doing it for her... That's when she heard the little voice in her head whisper the last line of the book, and she knew she finally had to listen to it.
Having her gain clarity from finishing the book at that moment would have cheapened it, and removed that aspect of Eleanor struggling with and eventually coming to terms with what she knows she owes to Chidi.
Also, they cut out a line where Michael is pissed at Eleanor for failing at her "one job" of keeping Chidi there, and thus breaking up his OTP </3
