She didn’t knowwww….
I always wondered why they don't nickname Chilchuck to "Chil". Because Chilchuck is quite a long name, it's way easier calling him just Chil. And then this.
It's all the opposite of how it would normally work. Usually, people call each other by their first (or second sometimes) names, but when they're called by the full thing... it means either nothing good is happening, or they're being called in a formal way.
Isn't imposible to think that the party actually called him Chil, since it's his first name and a nice nickname for him. In fact, they probably did, and Chilchuck told them they shouldn't call him that and explained why. They stopped calling him Chil, and accepted calling him Chilchuck for the rest of their lifes, apparently. Actually, we don't see anybody calling him like that until...
Laios tries to get his attention with something that normally would. Calling him his first name, something that he told them specifically not to do doesn't even makes him flinch. And then he's sure that Chilchuck is out of it and proceeds to intervene.
It's such a subtle detail, I don't remember if they call him "Chil" on other panels, if they do, reblog with evidence so we have all the oficial Chil moments here.
Chilchuck Tims ; Delicious in Dungeon ☆ Good Smile Company
I know it’s been done before but. Chilchuck timbs
Chilchack as a teenager-dad and still youngest in the party
In my own "Human ay "
Chilchuck is the youngest in the party, and here's why it makes me emotional.
Okay, so in my heart, Chilchack is like... 24? Meanwhile, Laios and Marcille are maybe 26.
But here's the kicker: while Marcille has just finished her millionth degree and Laios has had time to bounce between jobs and do his military stint, Chilchack lived his entire adult life on fast-forward.
He became a teenager dad
Maybe it was a whirlwind romance at 16 with his childhood best friend. (They a childhood friend - it is canon)
Maybe they were in love, maybe it was an experiment, but the result was a pregnancy. And they decided to face it together.
They got married. Had the kids (triplets!). (I just want owne pregnancy and more baby)
He probably dropped out of school, any dreams of higher education gone, and jumped into the first manual labor job he could find.
They had to fight the world—and maybe their families—just to build a life.
He became a union man, fighting for workers' rights, all to provide for his family. He was a happy dad.
But by the time he hit 20, he and his wife looked at each other and realized the love they had wasn't the kind that could sustain a marriage. It was a quiet, mutual understanding.
They loved each other, but they were making each other unhappy. He work too much, she was alone, they fight each other because both was unhappy and fault each other. And it was... "whats the hell we are doing?"..."it not us...we weren't be like that." I love totu, but i am so tired" "we can't do it anymore "
"i promise you love for the end of the world...but..see..it didn't work", " i still love you...but maybe".."yes maybe".
So they divorced. Amicably. They are not there's parents. Circle of violence, marriage trap is broken.
He's still a super present dad. He pays more child support than required, takes the kids whenever he can—not just on scheduled days, but anytime they need him or their mom needs a break. He just... shows up.
The girls are teens now, so it's a bit easier, but still. The thing is, he and his ex-wife?
They're still best friends. They were two kids who grew up too fast, facing the world together. That bond is unbreakable. They just need see it.
Now, for the first time ever, Chilchack is asking himself, "What do I want?" Not what he has to do. He's rediscovering himself.
Maybe he's working with a union and gets assigned as a rep to this weird new start-up—maybe a restaurant or some innovative food program (hello, Laios's cuisine initiatives?).
That's where he meets the party.
And of course, they all treat him like the baby of the group, even though he has more real-world baggage than all of them combined. And then... he meets Senshi.
And he has no idea what to do with these feelings.
The scene I imagine:
Chilchack goes to his ex-wife's place, a nervous wreck, and says, "I think I fall in love"
She laughs, her eyes sparkling, and says, "Tell me everything!" as she makes him tea. She's so genuinely happy for him.
But he's panicking. He's sad. He finally mutters, "...On a man."
And it hits him. He never had the chance to question any of this before. His coming-out is a surprise even to himself.
His ex-wife (let's call her Maya? Please this girl deserve a name) just stops.
Looks at him with these soft, understanding eyes, opens her arms, and says, "Come here," and pulls him into a hug.
Not just a hug. The Hug.
Later, he introduces Senshi to his daughters.
He and Maya stand to the side, watching as the three girls are utterly captivated by Senshi, probably as he enthusiastically explains the proper way to clean a slime.
And Maya leans over and whispers, "He's good. I get it."
Chilchack,voice barely a whisper:
"...Really?"
"He's going to be so good to you," she says.
And Chilchack just...tears up a little. Just from the sheer relief of it all. Senshi looks up from the kids, sees the tears, and his brow furrows with concern.
But Chilchack just gives him a smile that says, "It's okay.". And Senshi calms down.
Chilchuck just love this.
And says to her
" Yep, i believe in it"
and they both smile.
I just need more stories about Chilchack and his ex-wife being each other's biggest supporters. (And we need give her name)
The latest Dungeon Meshi chapter is incredibly good for many reasons but one of them is getting to see Chilchuck's arc and him growing as a character, especially when it comes to his opinion on Laios as a leader and as a friend. I am so interested in breaking down their relationship development (this also doubles as chilaios propaganda btw lmao)
This got extremely long so I'll leave it under the cut <3
me introducing all my friends to my new emotional support middle aged man
The funny thing about shipping Chilchuck/Senshi is they have very little actual chemistry as a couple - while they show respect for each other the problem is that they fundamentally don't get how they respect each other: Chilchuck sees senshi as a skilled professional and Senshi sees Chilchuck as more of an artisan and honestly I don't think understands the idea of being "off" work, or understands that Chilchuck sees his dungeoneering work as a means to an end and his real calling is his community activism.
Why are they shipped then? well not for their own sake, but like a married couple on the edge of divorce they are brought together inspite of their problems by the need to take care of their daughter
who is a cat.
