I'm very concerned for the young girls and transgender girls abducted by Brazilian's underworld forcing these poor girls as young as 9 years old into prostitution and now more than ever with the soccer (football) World Cup being hosted there the situation is going to get worst and the sad thing is there are lots of young Brazilian kid runaways trying to escape their poverty only to fall into the hands of these criminals who force them into prostitution becoming sex slaves and for most the only way out is death or suicide. It really is a dark secret of Brazil and the sad reality is not many outside of the country of Brazil 🇧🇷 realize how dangerous and prevalent this is as so many girls go missing and their lives are ruined or cut short prematurely. This has to stop. Die britische Fotografin Zana Briski begleitet eine Gruppe Kinder von Prostituierten über Jahre hinweg durch das Rotlichviertel Sonagachi in Kalkutta. Um das Leben aus den Augen der Kinder zu sehen, macht sie sie mit dem Gebrauch von simplen Kameras vetraut und schickt sie damit auf die Straße. In Fotoklassen werden die entstandenen Bilder besprochen, kritisiert und Anregungen gesammelt. So entsteht nach und nach eine Sammlung an beeindruckenden Fotografien, die das Leben dieser Kinder durch deren Augen dokumentiert. Zana Briski setzt sich bald für eine Schulausbildung für ‘ihre’ Kinder ein, um sie aus dem Teufelskreis der Prostitution zu befreien. Sowohl die Familien als auch die indisch Bürokratie legt ihr viele Steine in den Weg aber die Fotografin verfolgt mit einer Stärke und Willenskraft ihr Ziel, dass man als Zuschauer auf ein happy end zu hoffen wagt. Durch Kontakte und Engagement erreicht Briski, dass die Fotos der Kinder in zwei Ausstellungen in New York wie auch in einer Ausstellung im Oxford Bookstore in Kalkutta gezeigt und versteigert werden und finanziert so die nötigen Schritte bis zur Schuleinschreibung. Die Dokumentation ermöglicht einen Blick hinter die Fassaden Kalkuttas, zeigt aus einem neuen Winkel, wie schwer es ist, aus dem Kreis der Armut im Allgemeinen und der Prostitution im Besonderen auszubrechen und hinterlässt neben Bewunderung für Briski eine dumpfes Gefühl der Unverständnis-wer soll ein Kind unterstützen, wenn es nicht einmal die Familie tut?
