So this year marks 10 years since I discovered AO3 (I found it while trying to find Pacific Rim fanfiction, specifically for AU fics where the Russians survived) and I only realized this when I saw people freaking out on tiktok about AO3's upcoming maintenance period and how the website will be down for a few hours. AO3 maintenance periods are so short and so innocuous to me that they're not worth even worrying over. If anything, it's better than most sites which just go offline without telling anyone. The way people on tiktok talk about AO3 worries me a bit, between freaking out over planned maintenance, questioning what they're doing with their donations, and demanding an algorithm. I feel like an old lady standing on my porch and shouting at young kids for being mischievous.
