Blizzard Devs “Can’t Understand Why People Are Still Playing Patron Warrior”
Players have been screaming bloody murder about Patron Warrior since the deck first showed up on the ladder with the release of the Blackrock Mountain adventure last April, complaining that it’s overpowered, non-interactive, and generally no fun to play against. Many players hoped that the release of The Grand Tournament last week would finally be the shift in the meta required to keep those pesky Dwarves at the bar and out of their Hearthstone matches for good, but unfortunately, Grim Patron and his friends Shouting Orc and Rabies Troll seem like they’re here to stay.
“We’re honestly shocked by this,” said Hearthstone Senior Game Designer Ben Brode. “We were pretty confident that some of the cards we came up with going into The Grand Tournament would provide a direct counter to Patron Warrior. I mean, look at cards like Chillmaw. How were we supposed to know that not everyone would want to start running a legendary dragon taunt deck?”
“We just don’t understand,” commented Lead Designer Eric Dodds, while staring down into a cup of coffee with a distressed look on his face. “People have been asking for totem Shaman forever, and we made that viable. People have been asking for beast Druid forever, and we made that viable. Taunt Warrior, more interactive Hunter decks, an entirely new keyword! Why aren’t people using any of this shit?”
“We’ve got a card that lets you replace your hero power!” Brode went on, knocking several framed stock photos of models in various flannel shirts off his desk in frustration. “We’ve got a Priest legendary that summons more fucking legendaries! How is this not more popular??”
“Look at Dreadsteed! Look at Murloc Paladin!” Dodds cried out, crushing the Styrofoam cup in his hand and offering no reaction as the scalding hot liquid poured down his forearm. “We didn’t even nerf face Hunter or Zoolock! There’s more than one aggro deck, you monsters!”
“They can’t be stopped,” Brode declared, smashing through a pane of glass with his bare hand to reach the fire axe contained inside. “They can’t be nerfed. They’re immune to power creep. Every time I close my eyes I see those short, drunken bastards. I brought them into this world, and I have to take them back out. There’s only one way to end this.”
Brode was arrested several hours later while attempting to break into Blizzard’s Los Angeles data center, with the fire axe still in hand. Dodds could not be reached for comment at this time.
