I don't... CARE what build you're running. You can always find space for a one-handed sword in any build.
Whatever you do in Mercer's house, ALWAYS. GRAB. CHILLREND. The freeze chance is ridonkulously beneficial. With my thief character, whose One-Handed is about 39-ish with like one point in Armsman, I managed to beat Mercer into submission within a minute by dual-ing Chillrend and the Nightingale Blade. The enchantments on them are just so beneficial.
