china men by Maxine Hong Kingston is a solid and good book that deals with myth, ancestry, and immigration really well but it is a book that is really tiring to read

oh boy another chapter of shitty people being shit to people who are shitty, wonder whether it'll be casual misogyny, racism, sadism, or brutish lack of empathy

i am underselling it by a huge amount because that's not the entire book and there are small triumphs, but bleh i need a book on the side that's just like people going "fire the horse cannons" and a laser gun mounted on a cyborg horse shoots off into the distance, annihilating evil guy #2

The ocean never stops saying and asking into ears, which don't sleep like eyes... Sometimes ocean people are given to understand the newness and oldness of the world then all morning they try to keep that boundless joy like a little sun inside their chests.
