A Country ABC Clarke Hutton A large format ABC, lithographed at the Chiswick Press c1942 and published by Chatto, although a smaller format version was also published in the USA by the OUP in 1946. Clarke Hutton is an underrated figure, head of lithography at the Central for several decades and was the conduit for many students passing into the commercial world of illustration for publishers such as Puffin. The lithos are printed on one side only, and sadly this book is often broken up for the plates. #clarkehutton #abc #acountryalphabet #centralschoolofartanddesign #stonelithography #chiswickpress https://www.instagram.com/p/Bsz2JI4gjRZ/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1y60p8rslu92

G for Geese Clarke Hutton Lithographed at the Chiswick Press during wartime and published by OUP. Hutton was an influential figure in the world of children's books and lithography. His classes at the Central coupled with his friendship with Noel Carrington provided a conveyor belt to the world of children's books for many illustrators starting their careers. #clarkehutton #centralschoolofartanddesign #autolithography #chiswickpress #geese #alphabet #oup
G for Geese Clarke Hutton Lithographed at the Chiswick Press and published by Chatto & Windus during the war. A particularly attractive ABC book, which sadly many dealers disbound and sell as prints and now scarce. #clarkehutton #abc #geese #grasshopper #lithography #chiswickpress #chattoandwindus
