Last Reflection
Before the work session on Tuesday 4/19, I did not know about the “Record ystem audio” feature. It’s a simple feature that I’d overlooked during my work with Camtasia. I found out about the feature after searching for it on the Techsmith FAQ page to improve the audio quality of a YouTube clip I was using.
One thing I am worried about currently is my free trial with Camtasia. Since my free trial ends tomorrow, I need to make sure that everything I have so far for my final project is saved onto my computer after tomorrow’s work session. In order to have access to Camtasia after my trial ends, I will use another email account to obtain another free 1-month trial. I have the file saved in different formats just in case an error occurs with Camtasia.
The main thing I am currently having trouble with is managing my time wisely for the project. I have not been spending enough out-of-class time doing more research for the project. In order to fix this situation, I will be referring to the timeline/outline frequently, making sure that I am on pace towards meeting each deadline.
An issue I was having was with the technicalities of Camtasia. I was mostly having trouble with including text in the video. It was difficult to properly include the text the way I wanted to. I worked my way around that problem by using “Record Screen” feature of Camtasia and using Microsoft Word to include text in the video. For future purposes, I will refer to tutorial videos on Camtasia to correctly utilize the text feature on Camtasia.

I have encountered many road blocks since we were assigned this final project; mainly because I could not think of an appropriate topic to do my research on. I am still in the process of selecting a topic that is narrow and specific. Hopefully, with the help of this project outline, I can stay on track to successfully complete the final project.

Twine: Hungry
http://www.philome.la/leechanho1007/hungry/play
Creating a Twine game was not something I was familiar with. I had never heard of Twine nor had I ever play a game that was created through the Twine interface before the start of this unit.
Through Twine, a user can create a game to persuade, inform, or simply entertain the players of the game on a topic through interactive story telling. For my Twine assignment, I decided to create a funny, playful game for the purpose of entertainment where the player is given the role of a hungry college student. There are multiple paths to the game, but there is ultimately only one path that leads to the “win” passage of the game (when the player gets to eat). If the players choose the wrong option, they will restart the game from the beginning.
When I first started to create the game, I thought Twine was a very easy program to utilize. However, that all changed when I was attempting to make the game more complex with the use of stylesheets and coding in the passages. The use of stylesheet was very frustrating and confusing for me. There was a lot of trial and error involved when I was attempting to change the look of the game to something other than the plain default look. After many failed attempts, I decided to use a piece of code that another user had created and modify the code to give the game the look I desired.
The idea of the GNU Manifesto is relevant to the creation of games through Twine. The creator of a Twine game has the freedom to modify the program any way he or she desires (as long as the coding allows them to) to create a game. The creators can also freely redistribute and share the code they used to input into the program.
Overall, although it was frustrating sometimes when the game did perform exactly the way I wanted it to, it was a fun and interesting experience to create my own game.
