I hate being old. I distinctly remember singing all day at choir camp, glassing my brain and vocal cords with hard liquor, and then getting up the next morning and being with it enough to sing Poulenc.

Now I spend the whole day singing, have one margarita, and wake up this morning feeling and sounding like I got dredged out of a bog.

But it was a very fun and successful concert and day. Got to make cool music with old friends and made more than a few new ones. And everyone liked my cookies.

I had my first rehearsal with the Gaelic Choir!! 

It was so much fun, and a lot to take in over the course of two hours. 

Good News: I already love it so much and I want to learn more. 

More Good News: The annual dues are $400 less than my other choir (which I’m taking a break from right now), and the trip to Scotland next year is totally affordable! 

More Good News: It takes half the time to get to rehearsals I thought it does. 

Even More Good News: I made a friend!!! 

Even More Good News: We book our own airfare to Scotland privately, so I can take additional time off and go roam around the Highlands for a while. 

Even More Good News: To qualify, the choir needs to amass a certain number of “fluency points”, essentially. Bronze level gets four points, Silver gets six, and Gold gets 8 or 10. I believe the choir already qualifies, but just in case, I’m making an effort to learn some conversational Gaelic! 

So if anyone wants to learn Gaelic with me/chat it up to the best of my limited ability...

Santa Baby (this one and All I Want are in a different category because they’re just FUN)

The Grinch song is also a lot of fun to sing (imitating That Voice from the 60s special is a must)

It only sorta counts but the Heat Miser/Snow Miser song from A Year Without a Santa Claus is a bop, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.

God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen (the faster the better)

O Come O Come Emmanuel (fun fact this is my favorite Christmas song. It’s so beautiful. Also it’s right in my range so...)
