Hey! I’m Sydnee aka chokoladst! Im from outside of Philly and have lived in PA for 21 years. I went to school down south (NCCU08) so part of my roots are there as well. 4614 I crossed the burning sands becoming a Proud member and Diva of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorportated! I am the #tre of my line (7 total). DKA Unbreakable. Excited that I Am now joining some great individuals of the divineninelover page as an admin! I look forward to being able to help my fellow D9 members answer questions, provide advice, and collaborate on any and everything!

I heard that the letter of recommendation for DST has to be sealed by the person who writes it. Is that true?

Did you receive a letter of recommendation? I know transcripts have to be sealed but I read my LOR. Not saying you'll get to read yours. It may be true for some, may not be. I wouldn't be worried about a LOR unless you've made it through rush though...

I have expressed interest in DST to a current member who is my friend. There are 4 active members on my campus and I heard that once you tell one member, all will know you are interested. However, it is confusing because I do not want to neglect the other members like I dont want to get to know them more because I do. Should I try to meet with the president ? She is graduating ... or am I good? HELP!

Don't panic - don't panic. I would reach out to the other members but since you are assuming (and may be right) that they know of your interest, act casually and genuinely. They already know you're interested so now it's just up to you to be yourself. And she may be graduating but don't dismiss her.

Does a letter of recommendation for DST have to be from a graduate member, or can an undergraduate write one as well?

The letter should be from a financial (and not related) member of the organization. They should know you well enough to speak on you completely and why they believe you would be a positive asset to the organization. Don't ask someone you barely know.Keyword: FINANCIAL.

I have been volunteering since the beginning of the year and attending events for a graduate chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc in my area (MD, PG County), how do I go about informing a member of my interest?

Do they have a website? Check for form of communication (preferably phone) and contact them. Let them know of your interest and attending events (and maybe the events have increased your interest).Ask to speak with them or even if they have an upcoming event you all could possibly meet. Also, gradually bring it in to discussion. Introduce yourself first! Just suggestions!

In Delta, as a transfer student would my current school cumulative gpa matter or my overall gpa?

My guess is that they would look at both. I was in the middle of grad school, so I contacted my undergrad for official transcripts which included both (my semester to semester GPA and overall). I could be wrong but the most important thing - make sure your grades are straight before thinking about pursuing membership.

ith the DST moratorium in place I'm almost positive my chances of crossing undergrad (which I was lookin. Forward to) are gone. Any and all advice on pursuing a grad chapter is appreciated. I hear it can be pretty different from undergrad.

I pursued grad and it IS different from UG. I had to take off work, many of the other women had husbands, kids, etc. Your friends, bf/gf and family might wonder why you are MIA. We had meetings every night and you quickly have to learn to balance. In UG, the girls are generally around the same age. On my line, I have an LS who is about twenty years older and Sorors in the chapter who are in their 70’s. There is (typically) no probate or show of that nature although we did have an introduction show/fundraiser for school children. BUT it all was still worth it. If you TRULY want to pursue membership be ready for that commitment during your process AND after. grad chapters may not interact as much as you would in UG, it takes a bit more effort but I will say many are active in their community! Always understand that it will not be like UG but what is important is how you contribute to DST, how you represent DST, and how you persevere. Good luck!

I've been an interest of DST for a while now. I've heard talks of a line coming soon & I want to be prepared at all costs. I have A LOT of service from my freshman and sophomore year, but I'm currently a junior. I took a break from service this semester due to work and school (I was going through a lot). Will this affect me? I'm not sure how recent your service needs to be. Can I still use service from my freshman & sophomore year? P.S. I do plan to continue service this semester :)

You definitely need to show a consistent amount of service hours. I wasin the same boat I had racked up a lot of community service hours then therewas a couple years where I did not have any. I think if you start up as soon aspossible, I would also put your service from before (in my opinion within thepast year and a half). It should show you were consistently doing communityservice. Sometimes it will be required it be more than a certain amount ofmonths in more than one service/location/etc. they will specify what isacceptable community service as well.
