Long time no post!
Sorry about that. Big life change happened almost a month ago and it has been hard to get used to in a good way. More of that in a bit, first a rant...but if you’d rather not, skip to the bold print below.
Sometimes things happen outside of our control that if we had been in the position to do something about it, we would have I think. Usually Most of the time, the day is just a day. People are people, I do my job (which I like), and I don’t carry work home with me. It’s good day everyday.
Then there’s this one day. Because that one person. I usually forget people’s faces when they’re being less than polite because they have reasons in their life that I know nothing about and I don’t want to hold their one bad day which caused them to act less than nice to me against them the next time they come into the store. Bugs happen.
Oh, but this one customer. She storms away from a co-worker’s counter leaving her flustered. She takes the next customer. Storming mad comes back with several packages of Command hooks exclaims “I don’t #&%* believe it!” Comes to my counter, where the customer service manager follows her to, and throws. The packages down. Throws the packages at my co-worker. Shouting like a mad woman about how none of them are priced and then something about her malt being in the car, and “i’ll take these two” which are priced.
Now I have a pretty decent memory (which is why I forgive people by forgetting them), but blood was roaring through my ears and my vision was a little dim and tears had nothing to do with it.
So what’s a person with a name tag to do? Be polite, use a customer friendly voice, ring her up, and wish her a good day. She had better thank whatever god she believes in that I could do that because I was one breath away from chucking those packages at her face. Hard to miss at point blank range. A cut from plastic would have been a nice reminder. None of that happened because I was in shock. How dare she treat my friends so shamefully! But this moment of shock that someone actually behaved this way outside of TV gave me the moment I needed to make a bad situation worse--for me.
2. Me: You wi-- Also me: Give it to God, He’ll deal with her.
3. Remember the cameras. Someone’s always watching.
4. Get her the things so she can leave.
Situations like that don’t come up often. I was not prepared to deal with that kind of person regardless of what she may have been going through that caused her to explode because I’m sure the price tag-less packages were the straw that broke her proverbial camel’s back (poor camel) and not the whole or the source of her outrage. I really hope she doesn’t come back. I hope her embarrassment and shame keep her from setting foot in our air conditioned building for a long time. I doubt it, but since then I’ve been working on erasing it from my memory. That’s not something I want to hold on to to use as a measurement towards people or to hold it over that customer’s head like a guillotine when she does come back.
Just...why?
Whatever. On to better things, like...
PUPPY!
Yes, we have a puppy. May I present Luna Oscura (Dark Moon) the Destroyer *pause* of Toys. But Luna for short.
Isn’t she pretty?!
My first sister got her from her co-worker who had a of Chowbradors (Chow chow and Labrador) litter that was growing. Luna was her name (we’ve added on to it) and she is now 7 months old (that’s about 10 in human years). In the short time we’ve had her we’ve learned a lot about taking care of a dog and her personality.
We’ve never had a pet before and everything is new and sometimes unnerving (why is she growling?!), sometimes it’s like ugh! (You take her outside, I have to get up in two hours for work), but mostly fun and enjoyable.
She’s quite thorough in her decimation.
We forgot to tell her that wasn’t a toy. Her toy box is whole and untouched after learning about this new development. She has a schedule that we are slave to (except mom, this is not her responsibility just her enjoyment) unless one of us gets to go to work. (hahah, you’re turn!)
She’s got some highlights behind her ears and her shoulders probably from her Chow side and she’s so fluffy and soft!--except for this trail of wiry hair down her spine from the Lab side.
The only downsides are being tired and the zoomies (I equate them with a toddler’s tantrum before nap time but with biting, running, and crazy eyes. There’s no reasoning with either.). Going from being a shut away introvert to a pet owner is pretty big. Playing Pokemon Go since it came out has helped me be physically prepared cardio-wise but I’ma creature of habit and slow to accept change.
I mean,, come on! I come home from work and there’s a dog in our yard that my sibs are exclaiming over and obviously she’s ours now. From what I thought was a hypothetical discussion of having a dog only a few weeks prior to the reality of one is a bit of a surprise.
I say a bit because we’ve talked and dreamed and imagined having one all our lives but I gave up on that a few years ago. Lo and behold, that childhood fantasy is here and real and needs her claws trimmed this week. Also, she needs a doctor’s appointment, etc, etc.
We’re happy to have her as unlikely as it was that this day would ever come, but it did three weeks ago. My sisters get off easy because they took off to Texas to visit a cousin who had a baby ((who is technically my cousin once removed)Holy fudge on a stick, I’m an aunt too!!!) and something about golf. Well, joke’s on them! When they come back Luna will be more my dog (and my brother’s) than theirs so nahahaha!
Speaking (figuratively) of my new niece, I made her a lovey and some anti-scratch mitts.
Research after the gifts were sent off tells me safety eyes are not recommended for newborns.
Well, crumbs and it was cute too. Ah well, my cousin will know what to do with the gift I made her little moon until she’s ready for it. Silly auntie!
You know, having a puppy takes up a lot of time. A LOT. OF. TIME. Still, I have managed to begin a couple of projects.
I am a crafter and a new puppy will not stop my from making!
It’ll be a while before I have anything done at this rate, but my life is no longer just about me and my yarn. My precocious, precious puppy is slowly but surely making herself part of our lives irrevocably as we are part of hers.
Such a handsome young man.. #chowbrador #labrachow #labchow #chowlab
