crocheters of tumblr looking for a new project to donate, i have a suggestion for you!
my mum is currently using forearm crutches, and she mentioned that a real problem she has with them is that the cuffs are leaving huge bruises on her arms and make them quite uncomfortable to use, so i've made a cover for the cuff to pad the area and stop it bashing into her arms.
when i brought it into the rehab she's been staying in a few nurses commented on how good of an idea it is and how much they'd love more of them for their patients, so i can imagine other hospitals/rehab centres would appreciate them too!
the pattern is seriously so easy, it's all just one long strip that then gets sewn onto the cuff (i somewhat clumsily slip stitched it on since i forgot to bring my needle with me into the rehab lol)
i used a 5.25mm hook, and whatever yarn weight is used to make offcut balls of yarn
you want a width of 5cm, and a length of approximately 52cm
steps:
chain 10 (or whatever reaches 5cm, but has to be a multiple of 2)
3 rows of single crochet in the blo, chain 1 at the end of each row
moss stitch (alternating slip stitch and hdc - each row must begin with slst and end with hdc), chain 1 at the end of each row
continue moss stitching til near the 52cm length, then do another 3 rows of single crochet in blo, chaining 1 at the end of each row
sew onto the cuff (you might be able to do it separately to slip onto the cuff, but i'm ngl i don't really know how to do that lol)
