I had a crazy, off-the-wall thought last week that I wish I had thought to share. In the wake of episode 4, I was thinking back to this exchange from season 1:

Obviously, Mimzy skirting around the word 'friend' was always kind of interesting to me, and now having more context from Mr. There-Are-No-Friends-In-Hell, it makes a little more sense. Seems like Alastor is rather reluctant to use that word, in general - whether that reluctance started before or after Vox remains to be seen, though.

But then I couldn't help but think that it was kind of curious that Angel very specifically called out the word friends. He could have just asked something like "So, you know Alastor pretty well, then?" or "So you to are close?" But instead, he very specifically asked what they were to each other, and even at the time, I thought that was kind of strange. I remember when I first watched the episode wondering why that was this approach. And then after Mimzy answers, Angel even goes onto say he "didn't know he had any of those."

So, in the wake of episode 4, I recalled this exchange, and my thoughts went basically like this: 'Wow, it's almost like Vox specifically asked Angel to ask that. But obviously that wouldn't happen! I mean, Vox even asked about using Angel as a spy, and Valentino said he wouldn't do it. I wonder if he ever tried to get information from him, though. Tried to get Angel to tell him what Alastor was doing, and somewhere along the line Vox made the offhanded comment of 'Alastor doesn't have friends', which prompted Angel's curiosity. But I don't see Vox just chatting with Angel, and if he tried to get information from him, surely Angel would've said something about it. Of course Vox could have hypnotized him to tell him stuff... but I feel like that's reaching. It'd be a decent plan on Vox's part, but we have no reason to think that actually happened, especially when the Vees already dismissed the idea of using him as a spy.' And then I dismissed the thought like an idiot!

I mean, I did think it was weird how after the Sir Pentious's plan fell through, Vox just gave up. I just thought that was one of those hand-wave things because of the show's time constraints. But no, of course the guy who always has a plan didn't give up! Because it's not just this season he's been hypnotizing Angel, it's been going on since probably shortly after Pentious failed.

Wait, sudden thought - when Angel confronted Pentious, this happened...

Obviously, this is Pentious's little snake-charmer defense mechanism and is entirely different, but maybe this was meant to be foreshadowing. It looks similar to Vox's hypnotism, and in a way, Angel being hypnotized was a direct result of him catching Pentious - if he hadn't, Vox wouldn't have needed a new spy, after all (well, on that I have my doubts, but you see the vision). This could have been a subtle nod to what was about to happen to him. It doesn't really matter; I just thought it was a neat touch.

Back to what I was saying, we actually know for a fact that Angel was under Vox's hypnotism for at least part of last season. In the little montage we got at the end of the last episode, we saw this text exchange between Angel and Vox:

And this isn't from this season. This shows them fortifying the hotel before the extermination - specifically, I believe, the rest of the hotel preparing while Charlie and Alastor are in Cannibal Town and Vaggie is talking to Carmilla.

And then there's this -

That's the same robe Angel was wearing during Poison, and what happened at the end of Poison?

This weird little exchange that none of us could figure out what it meant!

And when Angel gets back to the hotel, he's rubbing his head like he has a headache - the same thing we see him complaining about in episode 5 of this season. Not weird on its own, all things considered, but coupled with everything else, Angel absolutely just underwent some hypnosis here. Don't know if it was the first time or not, but I think it's safe to say that Angel was a sleeper agent at least since episode 4 of season 1.

Anyway, all this is to say, Vox told Angel to ask Mimzy if she and Alastor were friends. My guy needed to reassure himself that Alastor doesn't have any friends, and it wasn't just him.

NO ONE WILL CONVINCE ME THAT THIS IS ONE SIDED.

HE WAS HIDING HIS FACE ALOT AND HIS EYES ARE FULL OF REGRET.

IN THE FIRST PICTURE IT SHOWS HOW ALASTOR USUALLY SMILES ITS MORE SHARP AND FORCED. THE SECOND PICTURE ITS SOFTER AND GENUINE.

HE LIKES HIM HE JUST DIDNT KNOW HOW TO EXPRESS IT OR HIS DEAL WIFH ROSIE GOT IN THE WAY OR HE THOUGHT VOX ONLY WANTED TO TEAM UP FOR HIS POWER.

I think people being real upset about the revelation about Lucifer being unable to harm Sinners in the latest Hazbin eps and already complaining about why he doesnt call in the Sins or get creative with his powers to fight back in ways that dont physically harm sinners are missing the obvious answer to all of that:

LILITH.

Up till 7 years before the start of the story, Lucifer had Lillith to rely on. To be the Power behind both thier thrones. Maybe lucifer could even give her portions of his power to make her more of a threat to Keep sinners in line. I imagine they made quite the power couple. And they had that relationship and set up for MILLENIA.

Its probably a huge part of why he's fallen so far into depression and seclusion without her. He's basically helpless against sinners without her or someone else to stand with him, and he's probably NEVER HAD TO ASK ANYONE ELSE.

Like yeah, he probably could in theory ask the Sins to come in and kick some ass, but if thats not something he's ever done before it would be a pretty big mental hurdle to get over. Same with trying to find limits and loopholes with his curse.

Its learned Helplessness basically. And thats not an easy psycological block to get through.

But hey we already have confirmation that a certain someone is pretty good at getting Lucifer to break through his Mental blocks. Mostly by being infuriating but.....

Yeah im really hoping the Theory of Lucifer and Alastor making a deal for Alastor to act as Royal Executioner becomes real cause it just feels so so perfect.

The Sinner who wants to be powerful and free from his current deal, and the Devil who's cursed to have all the power but never use it against his most hated enemies. Its just too good in too many ways.

The next episode of the Hazbin Hotel is fixing to look like:

Imagine- Alastor and Lucifer united by the goal of being the most annoying brats possible.

Three minutes in and Al’s already got Vox like this. Lucifer is impressed but not about to be outplayed by the bellhop, he can be a sneaky lil sh*t too!

Alastor is in the earily stages of obession with Lucifer.

What do you mean he gets up and the only thing he does is look for lucifer.

What do you mean he walks around with Lucifer's matching cup in hopes he might run into him.

What do you mean the first time you see him in how ever long he's been kidnapped he gets as close as possible and starts messing with him.

What do you mean the whole reason he went back to his crazy ex is becuase Lu thinks he aint shit and he's got to change that.

Obsession.

In the 2025 Pride standee, Vox has interesting shoes that don’t match his outfit. I noticed this when we were looking them over and didn’t see anyone else mention it. So we went and bought it (EXPENSIVE), to get a better look. I think his shoes are the Aroace flag.

More than just this standee, though, I think we have had good reason to believe he might be just as ace as Alastor, and that the show has been hinting at it for a while.

Firstly, Alastor had a nun outfit, then Vox appeared in a catholic bishop outfit in Stayed Gone. Both celibate roles.

Later we see Vox recoil with an Ew, No from Katie Killjoy’s offer to sleep with him, this is almost exactly the same way Alastor consistently recoils from Angel Dust when he offers to sleep with him.

In universe, we see Vox depicted on Love Potion posters, but completely baffled as to what Val’s love potion is meant to do. On the site it is subtitled with “What do you mean by that, Vox?”

I think it means he’s aroace lol.

Vox also reacts very oddly to Valentino when he thinks he might have implied they were romantic partners rather than business partners, immediately correcting himself to stress this is the case.

Again, this would make sense if he doesn’t feel romantic attraction the same way.

In Brighter, we never see Vincent show any inclination towards anyone throughout his human life, when he could manipulate or seduce individuals he instead pushes them aside. Despite leading a cult and having an ardent following before that, we never see him with anyone or any reason to think he ever was.

During the final battle, Vox declares “This is better than sex!” which seems to upset Valentino a bit. This would make sense if he wasn’t all that into sex to begin with and the battle fulfilled some other more substantial need.

Beyond these factors, my thoughts are simply headcanons, I think Vox does have some complication to his situation, which is why he’s shown as both Bisexual AND Aroace. His psychology is around control, murder and power but not in a conventional sexual or romantic sense.

Obsession. Not love.

Vox gets told “you are obsessed with me” twice, once by Al and once by Valentino and he reacts as if they told him he was in love with them. He outright blushes with Valentino.

He clearly is engaged when he and Val sing together in the finale, but I’d argue this is more complex than just attraction; he is singing about Alastor’s defeat. He sticks his tongue out right on the beat about “fleeing with his tail between his legs”

Vox also utilises sex as a tool of manipulation, clearly embarrassed when people catch him doing it to get what he wants from Val (as Alastor does, twice). If there was an ace element, he might not even realise HOW shitty this is to do.

I’d say he’s quite clearly a manipulative sadist, who enjoys people suffering to a degree, along with having little empathy to begin with. I think this complex element entwined his psychology means it is dangerous to lump him directly in with traditional aroace or ace individuals as he is not a typical example of this group in any sense.

As a villain he exhibits violent and controlling jealousy with Valentino’s partners, from the fish woman who he brings to the meeting to Vox’s persistent physical and emotional abuse and clear disdain for Angel Dust, who he KNOWS is important to Valentino, he’s one of the main things Val talks about with him. He dragged out Angel’s sin for really no reason.

I hadn’t seen anyone mention this and thought it would be interesting to point out, because if this was the case it means that Alastor and Vox MIGHT HAVE BEEN RIGHT FOR EACH OTHER and are closer foils than I expected.

It is something I have found rings true writing Vox myself. I think there’s fun to be had with this.
